You can make a living preaching, is that good enough?

Pretty much every skill helps somehow, just not in the same way it'd help the PC.
For example, having gardening lets the pet harvest materials, having cooking lets them make you breakfast

I think they train their Attributes faster, but besides that some skills have extra side effects if given to pets (cooking gives you breakfast event if you wake up 4am-9am, carpentry and tailoring both give you random equipment if you wake up around that same time, pets with investing contribute to lowering how much it costs to invest, pets with pickpocket automatically steal a portion of gold from enemies they kill (funding their potential training when you return to town) and some skills let them auto gather materials when they kill mobs).

Some skills work differentl for pets, but they get to use most of them.
Pickpocket allows your pet to steal money out of enemies when fighting. Crafting skills (tailor, alchemy, mining, fishing) allows your pets to randomly recollect materials while traveling and fighting. If they have collected stuff you can then talk to them and ask them to give those to you. Cooking and some crafting skills also allow them to give you a breakfast or give you a gift that they crafted if you wake up between morning and noon. Trading skills allow them get more money when they are selling stuff and to get better potential training when in towns.
Travelling of course will also allow them to get a LOT of exp and training when traveling between towns. Most skills have some sort of use for them either for their benefit or yours.

Yes, and it also raises your charisma, and it also raises favor for anyone you have sex with. Problem is it lowers your karma, can leave you insane for a few moments, and if you aren't careful i think you get diseases too from specific NPCs like other Prostitutes

Your home is safe. Storage house is safe. Dungeons are "safe" (both deed building and regular dungeons). If you are in town, go talk to the innkeeper about useng the shelter.

You can tell an area is safe because you can't see the etherwind particle effect.

Note "building" a shelter while on the world map takes significant time, advancing the disease. The best thing to do is to enter the wilderness map and cast return

What about ranch, farm and museum?

Almost definitely on the museum. I've never tried at a ranch or farm. Same rule applies, if you can see the wind you are not safe.

I saw rain on farm and ranch, so I will assume that they aren't safe.

that happend to me, I actually had to use an older version of elona and port my save. This release seems buggy as fuck for some reason.

You can occasionally find them at dungeons, but probably not at your level. Another option is to play blackjack in casinos and win 4 times in a row I think, which is much easier if you're having a "lucky day"

Go play blackjack. Bet 1 chip. At 5 (I think) consecutive wins a potion of cure corruption is added to the list of rewards.

There are some great rewards even after that, like scrolls of faith and potions of potential, but if you need the potion of cure corruption be sure not to cheat after 5 wins.

An easy, or at least easiest low level, method to get potions of cure corruption is to hoard casino chips, and as soon as you get a "you feel lucky!" Luck buff from food of after waking up, immediately go to the casinos at port Kapul or Palmia and start playing blackjack.

If you're going to play blackjack don't even bother cheating at a low level if your dex isn't up to snuff, you WILL get caught. Plus if you're playing during a lucky day you're almost guarunteed to win 5 times assuming you're not a retard when it comes to blackjack.

I'm only 3 days into the game but I know this will happen.

How do you get your pet to use ranged weapons? I got a younger cat sister, I heard some stuff about gene engineering a shooty pet into them, so I gene engineered a machine infantry into them, but she still won't use the ranged weapon i gave her. Even though her damage with a bow is higher than with her fists. She has the marksman skill.

I used to use one, but got lazy when updating and decided to switch back for the time being.

She has melee AI by default. You either have to spend AP or write a custom AI script.

Some monsters have a preset AI so they will only do that even if you change their equipmen and body and skills. You can change this with an NPC in the second continent, south tyris, or by using a special menu added by ElonaCustom.

Where do I find that NPC?

I just checked the wiki and it seems i was wrong. I thought the npc that asked for AP to teach feats to you and your pets could also do that, but i was wrong. I guess you can only change the AI with the Custom addon

Permadeath on or off? General tips?

I would not recommend permadeath to anyone who has not played this game for a long time. Death is frequent and usually unexpected for new players, but the game demands a high time investment into a single file to see most of it.

play without permadeath. The game was NEVER balanced for permadeath and it was only added afterwards because many people asked for it and they were already experts at it, but you will die VERY easily and have no fun doing it for your first time.
Some general tips:

Pick up the exorcism feat if you're new since it prevents you from getting assraped by things you don't know exist. Probably literally in your case if you're new.

Another note: The game has taxes that you have to pay monthly, but you dont have to worry about these until you reach level 5 or 7, i dont remember what level was it exactly.
There are also penalties for dying but those also wont happen until you reach those levels. Feel free to experiment and die in as many dumb ways you want figuring out how to play until then. The penalties for dying are usually losing a small portion of gold, low chance of dropping 2 or 3 random items where you died, and the worst one is losing 0.5 points in a stat.

Also, if your pet dies, they are NOT dead forever. You can pay a very VERY cheap amount to have them be brought back to an npc in the bar. Only penalty for your pet dying is that their relationship towards you decreases slightly. You should let them tank for you at first so this will happen a few times while you get your shit together

How do you level up your attributes like strength? I never see anything mention of them going up and they are constantly going down (I guess from dying). I have only 1 charisma right now and I don't know how to bring it back up.

Use skills related to them. You can see which skill belong to which attribute by their icons.
Some foods increase attributes too.

Anything not cursed or doomed, don't bother with ranged weapons though.

Train skills related to them, get rng bonuses from wells or eating (really good) food.
If you wanna level charisma quickly, amass 30k~, get invest skill, put the potential to 400% with platinum and Invest(50) on a shopkeeper

Each skill is linked to an attribute (check the icons). Leveling those skills slowly increases your attributes. Food also trains attributes, different meals like fishes, fruits, veggies, meat and flour train different stuff.
Buying prostitutes or being a whore yourself is another way to train charisma and get money. Careful with getting STD tho!

He's bad if you're NOT a caster and his element protection bonuses are easy to get anyways.

He's talking pre elonaplus. He used to be nearly impossible to favour and stats weren't that good. He's decent enough now, and the godpet can see invisible units with his ranged AI casting. Problem is he might kill you with his magic unless he's got higher levels in control magic, or burn useful shit on the ground, but he's pretty useful now with the ability to double-quick-cast and the invisibility sense. Also, the secret treasure buffs your shit, skill let's you into magic, and he's easier to get shit for now that he takes rods, not staves as offerings.

Did you know that all of Tsathoggua's sprites are shit and I've had to make my own which is semi-decent? Cthugha's only got her anime version to work with so I downsized one of the google image result sprites to make it work, and it's at least better, but it's still pretty ass that Nyarlathotep and Shub-niggurath are limited to 48x48's. The Demilich exists ingame, but doesn't have it's own uniquie sprite (Not surprised, if there's one thing Japs still don't know how to seemingly handle and not saturate with their flavor of culture it's western fantasy, even if they can get presentation down.)

The rock bomb is also about any explosive bomb enemy you can think of so I used that one thing from final fantasy as a sprite. Things are coming along well.

Sense Quality update is huge for me.

2/3 isn't that huge of a nerf, but for stardust yeah, the best way is party time and just killing the tutorial npcs over and over.

If you don't use Custom AI, you should be able to switch to normal E+ without any consequences. (I'm not sure what happens if you do, but I assume learned abilities might be lost. I haven't checked this though.)

Anyway the changes aren't big enough that updating right away is mandatory.

Critical hits have 100% hit rate, so you don't need that much hit % if you've a huge Eye of Mind.

There's this skill called "Greater Evasion."

Not entirely sure how that works but I know the gravity spell/status negates it.

It's essentially a 2nd dodge chance after the first one, and yeah gravity removes it.

Well, yeah, obviously. I'm trying to find which map set that is, to be precise. The map file in the pastebin is ded. The mod pastebin only has outdated mods listed apart from the little sister pack - which is just vanilla tiles with everything changed into little sisters.

No clue then, since nobody actually ever updates shit around here. Worse infrastructure than the states. I'd say check elonaup but they don't field much, you may actually have to check /vg/ or 4/vp/.

/jp/'s pastebins are pretty good. I lurked there to learn to play the game and tweak it. It also feels less slow if you have 4/jp/ and 8ch open.

That looks like the "Beautify" graphics pack, which has replacement graphics for everything.
Word of warning, there's some artifacting in that pack, so you'll need to be not incompetent in GIMP or something to fix it up.

For the most part I mix and match; most of my tiles are vanilla, really, with the exception of NPCs, the UI, and items.
I haven't done terrain myself since, like you said, it's not up to date, and just copying over the new vanilla tiles would look out of place.

That and training in as many strength-based skills as possible. Tactics, weight lifting, etc. The more skills you know that are tied to a specific stat, the more opportunities you'll have to train it.

Teach words allows you to literally, teach them phrases to say.
You know how some npcs have random dialogue while in the world? cats going meow or other things in the text box? that. You can have your pet randomly yell "Senpai!" at you. Not sure how you can make them FORGET words tho.
Change tone is similar but better: In your Elona>User>Talk folder there is a sample.txt file. These file contains a list of text and dialogue for your pets to use when several things happen. These includes lines for when you re actually talking to them instead of "Whats up" or "PETNAME stares and you and steps away", but also includes text lines for when you use a leash on them, rub them, use a stethoscope or whip on them, killing enemies, being killed, eating food, initiating aggro, sleeping.
Basically, their dialogue AI entirely.

It seems like it has a lot of options, and offers longterm play, but I don't want to just like lose 10 hours of play to a stupid death. Is it still a RL in that regard?

Permadeath is only a thing if you choose to play ironman mode, just try it because you'll screw up the first few times anyway.

Things level up as you do them. Wanna be better with swords, then use swords. Wanna be better at gardening, get a job at the farm and pick up lots of heavy fruits and dont die from overweighting yourself with it. You can use platinum coins (quest reward currency) to get an npc to help you train some skills. It wont level those up outright but it will make training them much faster. You also get some points on level up that you can use to train and speed up any skill, but just a little.
Your MAIN attributes (strenght, constitution, will, etc) are connected to skill. As you level up skills, their corresponding attribute grows. There are other ways to train those too, like a proper diet.
It is a roguelike however the name was NEVER made with permadeath in mind. Several difficulty modes were added ever since, some that enforce permadeath or pernalties for exiting the game without saving, but the DEFAULT difficulty mode doesnt force any of those.
If you die you get the option to just crawl out of your grave and appear in your house. There are no penalties for death until you reach lvl 6 or 10. After that, there is a small chance of losing a percentage of your gold, 1 or 3 random items, or at worst losing some attributes (like 0.5 points in strenght or such)
I think the game just has a great setting and how it allows you to easily customize ANYTHING and ANYONE. I have an android with a Aigis sprite for example and i could give her proper dialogue too if i wasnt lazy. The setting has medieval armors and swords and wizard practicing magic, but there are also shotguns, laser guns, grenades, dinosaurs, dragons, HARD GAY, angels, imps, etc.
You can buy a ranch to breed animals or monsters or little girls, buy a farm to grow crops, a house and hire a maid that will name your house LAME VIRGIN SHACK. So much to do and so much to see.

Panties can aslo be used as weapons.
You can grow extra limb, or learn gene engineering to make your pets grow extra limbs and marry a little girl with 2 extra pair of legs, just because you wanted her to be able to wear even more those to move faster.

Your two choices are Player Status and Ally Status.

Ally Status will attempt to keep it up on all your pets, which can be useful if you have pets that are faster than you are. However, your cheerbot is more likely to get stuck casting cheer over and over again because one of the pets is out of range/sight.

Not really an issue. You could move cheer further down the list after a "move away" command, but the one turn to cast cheer isn't really going to cause much trouble anyway.

It's Buff, not Status. Status is used for things like Dim (insult action), Fury (provoke action)), Atrophy (Browbeat action) etc. Buff is used for both buffs (eg speed, hero) and debuffs (eg element scar, slow)

Well, it's sorta limited in that living weapons always get the blood sucking attribute in addition at level 11+, and level 15 is the absolute max.

If it's not stealth, then it must be an attribute or level, or some combination of the three. All I can say is keep developing her, and look for anything the other pet had that was higher.

More than 9 faces seems to work perfectly fine. face1 also works fine, but you have to replace the existing example face 1. I have 11 in there, but they are numbered up to 20.

Try running "re-initialize abilities" or whatever that option's called. My valkyrie was missing Cheer in her custom ai ability list until I did that.

Re-initialize abilities is for when pets gain new abilities outside of the custom AI, in order to tell custom to add those abilities. Most commonly that happens when they evolve, like that Little Girl/Valkyrie

Probably the most important thing to keep in mind is that actions have maximum ranges for pets that don't always apply to the player. If you tell a pet to do something beyond its max range it will be confused.

Evolving your little sister gets you a valkyrie which has cheer, and the young lady has two evolutions and they become basically unstoppable with both of them. Most humanoids that gain bits are pretty good too.

You can turn off equipment from showing with a dresser. You can also bake the clothing/eyes/extras in on the body sprite and only have one sprite sheet for the character, which could just be 16 duplicates of the same sprite.

Also a question: I'm a gunner and I very rarely use the melee weapon I have equipped, most of the time I'll only use it if a much lower level enemy gets right up in my face somehow. My melee weapon is used mostly for whatever stat bonuses it gives me; that being said, which god-gift weapon would you guys recommend? I'm split between the Kumiromi Scythe and the Lucky Dagger. Protection from thieves, seeing invisible enemies and absorbing stamina make me lean more heavily towards the dagger.

With enough time/autism, you can rotate through gods and get them all.
Mani's gift is a nice shotgun (though as a shotgun it's best in close range), the Scythe and Dagger are both good, but I personally use the Scythe more since I have see invisible from the Sage's Helm and thief protection from the Palmia's Pride ring.
I think absorbing stamina only applies to attacks made with the dagger.

Try to pick up the various buffs: Attribution Shield and SPEED are the big ones, but Holy Shield and Feather are also good to have if you need more PV/DV respectively. 4 Dimensional Pocket is also extremely useful for an extra 50-ish inventory slots, and to replace the Cooler box for food preservation. It even resets the rot timer, and purifies rotten food, to boot.

Speed and Hero can come from a pet using Cheer. Feather and Holy Shield come from Platinum song (also divine wisdom). Cheer won't affect the caster but Platinum Song will. It's a waste to really train any of those yourself.

Attribution Shield and Contingency are probably worth working on though

If you can't get that, the best alternative is frognrolla, evolved from a flying frog or poison arrow frog and Another Heart. It has slightly lower life and way lower mana than the goose though.

Now, as a word of warning, actually getting to that takes a bit of effort. Neither you nor your pets can start out futa.
Let me conduct a couple tests real quick and I'll get back to you with advice.

You need two "forbidden meats" if you're starting as a girl, one if you're starting as a boy. This is because, no matter the result, forbidden meats will flip your internal gender flag (which matters for shit like your portrait choices and "him/her"), and I assume you want to end up looking like a girl.
As a girl: Eat a blessed forbidden meat, then a cursed one.
As a boy: Eat a cursed forbidden meat.
Probably back up your save beforehand in case things go wrong.

Pets do not interact with forbidden meats in nearly the same way.

The point is that if you, starting as a girl, just eat a cursed forbidden meat, it's going to give you a male portrait and treat you as a dude, despite your listed gender now being "Hermaphrodite."

Forbidden Meat is a special, rare item that you can generally only get from a Pot for Fusion recipe. You can bless it or curse it with blessed/cursed bottles of water, the latter being pretty rare.

You can produce a gene with anything regardless of gender or species so just get her to Soul Mate status, marry her, make a gene, and then imagine you grew a dick and fucked her relentlessly.

Get a good magic shop rank(100-150 at least) and it'll start stocking evolution pots every so often, just quaf one if you ever lose a beneficial one

The only thing I'm sure will work is uncursed/blessed potion of Evolution, which always gives you positive mutations (that overwright matching negative ones). The wiki doesn't specify what blessed mutation/cure mutation do.

The invest skill just makes investing cheaper from what I understand. Investing 50 at one time will generally give you massive amounts of investing levels if your potential is decent, and by extension will level your charisma by quite a bit as well. So yes, you should learn and train investing.

Those dungeons aren't ACTUALLY level 666. I think they are something like 45 technically? They are just boss dungeons.

Ultima is level 80, so it's really not that much.

Siva (act 2) on the other hand is an incredibly powerful 200. Way more than normal for 200 I think.

The downside is training spells separately. Spell damage is massively dependent on spell level as you can see here >>13401802. Any time spent casting one attack spell is time NOT casting a different one, and since you need targets (who generally end up dying quickly) you are pretty limited in how fast you can train them. The magic canceler unfortunately isn't enough to reduce your casting chance at higher spell/casting levels (still 99% for my main spells)

While Darkness/Mind bolt has the same base damage as Cold, it loses the damage multiplier that Wet status adds, meaning it will do FAR less damage when you need it.

Pets can't ranged attack further than 5? spaces away.

Range limits. Pets won't shoot at all if the target is too far. The exact distance depends on the weapon, but usually it's around 5. Any further than that and you have to tell him to move closer first.

Also, completely separate from pet range limits, there are different damage dropoffs for ranged weapons, meaning each one has an ideal target range, check here elona.wikia.com/wiki/Ranged_Weapons Keep in mind that even if your weapon has damage for a given range, pets still might not be able to shoot that far.

Yeah that's fine. The problem is you need to choose between darkness beam, ice bolt, and crystal arrow. Each has pros and cons, but only one of them is ever going to be high enough level to be worth casting in "challenging areas.

However, pets don't have this issue. Pet spell power is based on their casting skill instead of spell level, so they can safely cast any spell at the same power level and not have to grind individual spells. It will always be weaker than a player spell at equivalent level though because of how the formula works (about 60% of casting skill = level)

I'm not sure if it's worth it, can you ever have high enough resists that both you AND your pets can survive? Contingency is only 80% I also don't know the damage formula

I survive it pretty handily (granted it chunks off a good 1/4-1/3 of my MP thanks to Barrier), but yeah, only one of my pets can curvive it at the moment. So I just send them all back before casting.
For some bizarre reason the Call Familiar action or whatever does not take a turn. You can instantly summon/dismiss pets so long as you have the stamina for it, which I have definitely used to pull my pets to me out of rape packs of monsters.

Magic x Level, it's perfectly survivable with enough Life/fire resist.

Get a Deed of Removal Deed, it'll move your house for you, without rearranging anything. As for other deeds, you have to make a new one.

If your breeder has "eggs out the wazoo" any new creatures born on the farm might have any level of that trait of none at all, but they will generally produce far more eggs than otherwise, chickens also naturally produce more eggs, which stacks with the trait.

Traits are divided into two categories, "drops" which affect the things the creatures leave behind when they die, or "production" which affect what gets produced on the farm as long as the creature is alive. They can only have one trait from each category, so it's impossible to have a chicken that is both good at producing eggs AND milk, or one that has more AND better meat.

I've got all three of them and yeah, even the wiki says the 666 is just cosmetic. It's the 999 ones in South Tyris that are a bitch (I keep getting squished by Yerleswood). Even Estork in the Dog God Forest is pretty hard and the rating is only 60.

I managed to beat him through a combination of Rampage, Slow, some lucky rounds, and my Black Cat finishing him off with decapitation. I still needed a couple pet resurrections.

You can just jump in, but do in-game tutorial and try to learn all controls first.

There's not much you can fuck up by going in blind that can't be solved with grinding, especially early on.

To add to this, instruments do get a modifier. Rule of thumb, the heavier the better with grand pianos being the best and harmonicas being among the worst. Not that weight actually matters it's just easy to recognize.

Anyway, it doesn't really matter because at perform 30 you get the "ensemble" wide action (on next level up). Ensemble performs without using any instruments, but it adds half of all of your pets combined perform skill to yours. You will do MUCH better with ensemble than with a grand piano, though it does cost a fuckload of stamina to use.

In game tutorial helps very little, but you can always tak the I believe it is ? key for more on that lot.

I wouldn't really recommend avoiding the wiki on this game. Half the shit is poorly explained, the other half isn't explained at all with entire descriptions being missing. It's really not worth trying to play blind.

Except for Shift Cores elona.wikia.com/wiki/Shift_cores there's nothing that can be wished for that can't be gotten through other means, so you don't really have to worry too much about wasting wishes.

Personally I might recommend a Barbecue Set. Even with investing I still haven't found which (if any) shop sells them at all. After that, I feel like the best thing to wish for are Secret Experience of Kumiromi (miromi for short). They are dropped by fairy type enemies very rarely, rarely enough that you will likely never find as many as you need to use them every 10 levels.
