The writing stays the same, the dungeons never get more complex, and in fact there is a good while where they're just hallways, But fights do get more interesting as you unlock more colleseum battles and fight things that are a way higher level than you and actually require you to strategize.
Because it isn't shit, just a great battle mechanic buried beneath a mediocre dungeon design and shit writing.
