UBI does not involve seizing the means of production nor does it involve a planned economy
it is based on taxation, plain and simple and yes it involves redistribution of wealth in the same sense that taxation involves the redistribution of wealth
the point of UBI (how I see it at least), is simply to streamline the welfare system
it actually involves much less central planning than many current systems
just the same amount to everybody regardless of their income, and then tweaking the amount of taxes paid that for most people it will be net zero (you get UBI but your taxes are slightly higher as a result)
this will probably save money, if we assume a welfare system is in place

maybe when there are fewer and fewer jobs available because of increased automation, the UBI could be increased, but nothing is stopping you from earning on top of it, its actually encouraged
