Pretty much any era of Superman would function similarly in a game. The only difference is that Silver Age Superman could pull planets around when he wanted to. Actually, modern Superman could probably do that too. But they choose not to most of the time. The player will want to do that, but it's unfeasible in most situations, so you might as well go with a Golden Age or Early Post Crisis level Superman who has lower limits but still enough to feel like Superman.

The series has been called Shazam since the '70s, even if the character only started being called that like four years ago.
