That's why they have to grit their teeth and wait, hoping for a complete dissolution of EU, as then everyone would have tariffs imposed on them, and Italy could stay competitive in the european market. It's also the reason why countries like Czech Republic cannot leave, despite both the people and the government hating the EU – ask anybody on the street there, and it's very likely he'll tell you that the EU is bad, that it's evil, but that leaving at this time is economical suicide

The truth is that the Italians as a fighting force were equal to or better than the British, but did not have an ally like the Americans to supply them with huge supplies of raw materials.
