Back when GG was in full swing, I'd heard it said that Tumblr's stereotype of being an ironclad feminazi deathcamp was an exaggeration, and there was actually a split between the hardcore Tumblrinas (a relatively small but ferociously loudmouthed minority) and swathes of normalfags (mostly just interested in art, porn, and stolen reposts) who rarely interacted with the former group. Kind of like Something Awful from around 2005-2010, where there was a split between the generic kiddies who overlapped with Holla Forumstards, versus the SJW indoctrinated neo-goons that gradually seized power.
How accurate was that assessment? Is it true now?

I don't have much of a memory of GG because I didn't care about it one way or the other. I don't even play video games so I just don't know anything, but if it was around maybe 2011-2013 then yeah, I think it's accurate. Do know I didn't actually start using tumblr until 2012 (I have friend who's been using it since 2010-ish and he'd let us check it out with his account during lunch and stuff) and I was like 14 at the time and just liked books and the French Revolution a lot.
Around Michael Brown's death, I noticed a shift toward an emphasis on combating racism, and then now it appears it's on the cusp of another shift in identifying where the racism actually comes from and a focus on economics and anti-imperialism.

OP if you're still doing this: follow a bunch of the radical leftist blogs on tumblr and reblog their stuff if it isn't too liberal. Once you get a feel for the kind of memes tumblr likes, push the envelope as far as it'll go.

OP, if you're still around, change your theme. Go pick up the original redux HTML from pastebin and make some tweaks as you see fit. It's in-style again for casual, "with-it" people and is maybe the simplest theme to actually work with and make it look presentable. And ask me or if you want to know anything else about navigating Tumblr.

I already have my own real tumblr (with 600 followers tyvmf) so I am fairly familiar with the culture, but I tend not to interact with most users outside of my small "clique" - we've been fairly insular for a while, so I haven't really been deep into mainstream tumblr culture since 2013-14
