The Swiss would rather cut ties to the EU than give up their guns. This is undeniable fact.
The Swiss soldier isn't just an occupation, it's a cultural cornerstone that's been a part of their cultural identity for as long as there's been a Switzerland. They are the defenders of Christendom and the papacy and formed the basis of every major nations royal guard for centuries. Switzerland is the nation that's martial history means it's never been occupied, even by the Germans, who were for centuries their only martial rivals on the battlefield as soldiers and mercenaries.
Remember, even Adolf Hitler, a man with the balls to invade Russia in the winter, never set foot on Swiss soil. In over seven hundred years of history the Swiss have lost so rarely, and with losses so far apart, that their morale is as unshakable as nearly a thousand years of raw martial discipline.
I'm speaking as an outsider but everything I've ever read or seen about the nation points to the idea that they would never in a million years agree to this.
