herman and katnip prepared me to watch itchy and scratchy.
and, to a lesser degree, shnookums and meat.

abc had "the casper cartoobn show" from 1963 to 1969. it was better than watching the live action shows nbc and cbs aired, so i watched it. i found casper way too saccharine, but loved herman and katnip (my favorite tex avery creation was screwball squirrel, so h&k is not much of a stretch)

actually, closer to eight, but point still valid.
