XFCE sadly doesn't work that way.
You can however customize the taskbar and choose to add a launcher, which when clicked, will open the application you specified.
I made another taskbar myself, located at the top of the window.

My time is pretty valuable to me, and I use Arch full time. Nothing ever works on Windows, and in particular when something doesn't work on Windows, if restarting it doesn't work you're basically fucked.
With Linux I've never had an issue I couldn't fix, and my workflow is much, much faster than on windows since it's not the literal most garbage os ever made.

Android has google play, Ubuntu has their "store" something. I prefer a list-view which synaptic provides, and others prefer terminal commands.
Many different choices. When providing help on the internet though, giving a terminal command is usually quicker and better since that's usually one line, than a whole paragraph with 5 or more steps on how to do something~

The only thing I agree is annoying is starting something on boot, but while "too many options" is annoying when you get into it i hardly would consider it a negative point.

I see what you're saying but all that you're saying feels like super tiny nitpicks, like "doing this thing can be annoying" or stuff that you have problems with when you start out. My problems with Windows are huge tho, and keep going after years of susing windows. it's insane how infuriating using Windows gets once you've started really getting your workflow going on a linux distro that fits you. That's my point, everytime I use windows I feel like I'm wasting minutes do do any single action, meanwhile on linux everything goes super fast for the vast majority of stuff I do. Yeah I have to look stuff up for some actions, but it's a small price to pay for the convenience, speed and level of customization.

Also from your list I appear to have gotten lucky with laptops, I've been full Linux for 3 years across 2 laptops and I've never had any of the issues you mention. Again my biggest problems have always been on my windows partition.

Also TO THIS DAY I can't access my android phone's filesystem on my windows partition. I just can't, I've tried every fix online, it don't work. It worked after installing one package on Linux. That's the sort of experience I have every single time I try and do something on windows.

Also Windows works fine for me. Never had any problems nor had to spend hours wasting away with fiddling on some obscure options to get the stuff I had in Windows back.

I've had Ubuntu (with that weird bird background and Africa sounds), Crunchbang, Debian, Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 16.04 and used Openbox, Unity, Gnome3, KDE, i3wm, and XFCE and nothing really feels proper. Might be how none of those handle small 1366x768 screens well, but eh. The bumblebee project has solved the problems for the past 3 years but before that getting Optimus to run (well, rather, disable) was a hell.

There's a difference between customization and "we're an Open Source project and we don't have people to support many configurations so figure it out yourself and post a solution on StackOverflow or some forums if you happen to stumble upon something you can use".

So no, no distro has ever felt like "I can leave this like this for a year and just change the background and I'll be fine", as there's always something to fix up again after some update broke something or you find out some feature you rarely used on Windows isn't implemented at all in that distro/wm/de and you write another script to fix it.

With a tiling WM without a DE it was manageable because I know it's all on me, but getting something to be as nice as I want on any other WM is either "take our bloat to get feature X or leave it".

I just want my window previews when alt-tabbing in XFCE and properly stacked/grouped icons in the task bar. I want notification, sound, power and network control without having to keep track of 4 different applets to manage that.

Heck, even Hackintosh was nice after fixing the driver issues until my stupid ass tried to install an OS update.

No distro ever will feel like a complete package because at the end it's just a bunch of standalone applets each with a different developer base, bunched up together and themed to look integrated for some DE.
