The New Communist

In the days of the Soviet Union, there was the concept of The Soviet Man. The Soviet man was to be selfless, learned, healthy, muscular, and enthusiastic in spreading the socialist Revolution. The basic theme in this idea is self improvement, and as communists we should strive to improve ourselves where ever we can. Thus, I propose that we take this old idea and reform it into The New Communist. We should help and support each other to improve ourselves both physically and mentally. Use this thread to come up with a plan to improve yourself with comrades, and report in your progress every week, or when you feel is appropriate. You can report anything you like, exercising, reading theory or another important topic, or learning a new skill. I'd appreciate it if a mod would make this thread cyclical. Otherwise, I'll try to make this thread every week, but somebody else is always welcome to make it.

As for me, I currently weigh 239 lbs. Here is my progress photo at that weight and on the 19th of July. On the physical side I'm going to be running the couch to 5k plan. There is an app for it in the app store, and you can also easily find info on it by googling it. I rode my bike for 30 mins on Monday, but will get back on the plan proper starting today. As for weight lifting, I am doing body weight workouts on alternate days. As for my mental development, I am currently reading The Soul of Man Under Socialism by Oscar Wilde, The Critique of the Goethe Program by Karl Marx, and To Our Friends by the Invisible Committee for my first anarchist work. I am also learning Esperanto, and I plan on getting into tinkering with electronics and bikepacking as hobbies.

So is this a blog thread?

It's a get out of your chair and move around you stupid faggot thread

...

don't fall for this meme, go lift heavy weights instead

Don't bother. Go learn Spanish or French instead.

I guess, just as long as your blog is about you improving yourself.

Why is that? I'm poor af and it seems like a good way to get fit to me.

I want to do it as a hobby, and because I do want to get into the romance languages later.

Ne aĆskultu tiun stultulon, lerni esperanton estas bonega ideo!

Bodyweight is not functional at all for building even the tiniest bit of muscle mass. There are some exceptions: pull-ups are pretty good while push-ups do jackshit.
Nobody actually speaks Esperanto, English and Spanish are much more functional as international languages. You aren't opening up a new world by learning Esperanto, I can guarantee you that >90% of people who speak Esperanto also speak English and/or Spanish.

I just returned from a 40 mile march, and last year I was on a 60 mile march. In a month, I will be on a 60 mile march again. I traveled for 12 hours to my destination trough dirt roads and forests with 15 minute breaks between an hour of marching and one long break of an hour and a half. How will you defend your people and fight for socialism if you cannot march, carrying at least 30lb of equipment? Guerilla warfare and infantry is crucial for any revolution.
I also lift weights regularly and am very careful about what I eat, since bread and processed meat is cobbled together with a lot of greatly unhealthy additives (I am a baker, I know these things)

Organize with your comrades, or with your friends, choose a far destination like a farm if someone you know owns one and march there. Take enough food for the trip, take at least 2L of water, and pack extra clothes. It will make you appreciate your country side, make you stronger, healthier and more resilient. Your feet also get tougher.

That's ok for now. I need to focus on weight loss rn. Any tips on how to build muscle mass as a poorfag when the time comes?

I just wanna lose some of my bought so my belly doesnt stick out tbh. Its not a lot but its the difference between a nice fitting tshirt and looking out of shape.

Any tips on changing your diet (thats permanent?)

have you got a big dick?

for you

Are you Serbian?

How do you know?

What kind of footwear do you use for those marches?

Why didn't you donate that money to the poor victims of capitalism?

sneakers or military boots, depending on the trails.

I'll pass on the whole "proper communist man" shit, but good for you for getting fit guy

Get a cheap gym membership, if you're a burger I believe Fitness 19 is cheap and has the weights you'll need without any gay shit like saunas or pools. I'll go further and say that bodyweight is generally shit for weight loss as well, iron is way more effective. If you're just starting out you can get away with just cardio, but I'd do a 3 day intense cardio, 2 days weight lifting, 1 or 2 days light walking routine for best weight loss after maybe a month of cardio. Get the myfitnesspal app as well, you can't outrun a spoon and keeping track of what you feed your body is essential. I lost like 100 net pounds and built up some muscle over 2 years, could have done it quicker but didn't have any guidance until about a year in. Do what I said and drink plenty of water and get an exfoliating brush for your skin.

Anyways I'm currently cutting and planning on learning Muay Thai in the fall. Trying to read theory in my spare time and working on a script I hope to make into a film. Also drawing up plans for a media co-op to put out art from fellow communists.

nice comrade. keep us posted.

For self improvement I spend a lot of time reading theory, obviously. Try to work out everyday, powerlifting mostly. Though I'm a smaller guy so I can only get so big.

Otherwise since I'm an anarchist I try to practice self sufficiency. Not because I am an individualist but because I like the idea of dual power, and think that community based programs like community gardens are the fucking bees knees. So I do a ton of gardening, especially important if u consider bread book and how much of a point kropotkin makes of food supply to the revolution

Not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for OP but thought I'd contribute

All memes. Ability to do Calisthenics should be the goal, but if you're like me, you'll have to start with weights. Just do whatever you need to do to work out your muscles. Machines should be avoided if possible, tho

...

I thought it was the reverse, work with your bodyweight while you can, and once it stops becoming challenging, switch to weights.

I'm pretty sure it can be either/or, really. I like the idea of gitting gud at calisthenics but the way I experienced it was that I had to do bench presses with barbells and dumbbells to so much as hope to be able to do pushups. However, seeing OP's pic on a calisthenics plan, it really is all in easing yourself into working out a muscle group (i.e. if you want to do a pushup (the standard, "intermediate" exercise for the chest and arms), you gotta ease yourself with wall pushups, etc.)

...

It wasn't about "self-improvement" but the complete submission of individuality through the totalitarian state-sponsored enforcement of mass conformity. Physical fitness was promoted as a way to increase productivity, that is all.

Cycling to get in better shape
Socialist theory for better theory and praxis, currently reading Society of the Spectacle
Reading academic books on political history to advance my studies, currently on interwar great power politics, also very useful for socialist understanding, especially as I plan to formulate some of my own theory eventually
Cutting down on the ole drink (a lil bit)
Socialising more with different people to get used to dealing effortlessly and naturally with normies and non-academics
That's about it.

lift too

cardio alone wont save u

...

gee i wonder who could be behind this post

butthurt tankies

the "tankies" meme literally means nothing at this point with all of these anarkiddies throwing the term at anyone who supports actually existing socialism.

"Totalitarianism" is such a meaningless buzzword. Name a socio-economic system that doesn't govern nearly every aspect of the lives of the people under it.

Totalitarianism implies the shaping of every aspects of life is ordered by an all-powerful state with no legal restraint on its activity.

Sounds like gymbro autisim to me.

Name a society that doesn't shape every aspect of their respective citizens life.

Feudalism

Every historical and existing political system from Western liberalism to Latin military juntas. Authoritarianism is not the same as totalitarianism.

If you're gonna meme then at least do it the wrong way!
