Catholicism wasn't the only Catholic sect prior to the reformation. In fact, before the reformation actually took off there were several failed reformations that Rome succeeded in smothering in the crib.

But the entire point of protestantism is that it's a restoration of actual Christian worship. This is related to why some sects of it deny terms like "protestant" or "reformation" as they view themselves as a part of a continuous tradition all the way back to Jesus.

Catholicism and orthodoxy are preety anti- socialist, but branches that actually follow the Bible ( independent fundamentalist baptists) can be socialists.
