Lefty Game Recs

Hey Holla Forums

I'm in the mood for an autism simulator. I enjoy making left wing societies in games, however it is hard to find games focused on modern (1800-present) politics.(And portrays socialism at least evenhandedly) that are still fun to play.

The closest I've gotten was Vic 2 with HPM and Stellaris with Utopia. (Though I really don't care for space 4x games) I hated Democracy 3 because it feels like you're just dicking around with sliders, and not actually affecting a society. Admittedly, I haven't played many non-Paradox Grand Strategy Games so if you know of some good politic focused ones that'd be great.

Feel free to recommend non autistic games with a lefty bent too!

Try Tropico 5.

You will find new horizons on modded Skyrim. Just load up the "High King of Skyrim" mod, get yourself some red face masks, grab "Amazing Follower Tweaks" to build your personal army, and you're pmuch set. The rest is just gameplay and cosmetic mods, held together with your own imagination.

Tropico 4 is better IMO. Larger islands and better optimization.

Try Kaiserreich mod , were is the photo from??

Far Cry 5

Crisis in the Kremlin

Wolfenstein II. Preorder it.

that's gotta be the weirdest fetish i've ever seen, todd, and that's saying a lot

Pic from leftybooru couldn't tell you were it's originally from

I WANT TO TITFUCK HER ASS.

Kaiserreich

Why live?

I wish there was a game that somehow combined Democracy with Simcity and Tropico and Urban Empire and Wargame and Hearts of Iron and Stellaris. I'd sell my soul for such a product. Alas…

I know you said you don't care for space 4x games, but since you already have Stellaris, you could try the Socialist State mod.

tagderarbeit.extrajetzt.de/htm/game.htm

I wish there was a GTA version, but less crime and more roits.

Dwarf Fortress. Kill the nobles.

P.S. Torrent every game you want to play unless it's free.

Try Hidden Agenda my man, it's only good for a few playthroughs if you're politically savvy, but for an MSDOS game it's good fun. It will also teach you stuff through doing. Byte for byte, it's probably some of the best gaming in existence you can have (for free). Being MSDOS you can also get it off a legit site for free with an emulator.
You can become an American lapdog neolib dictator, putting down riots and strikes with US aid, or the mad dog of Central America, waging a war against imperialism, capital, and the CIA.

Rogue State is a ripoff of it but I don't rate it much, I quit after like twenty minutes when I figured out the game mechanics.

Also, get the original Crisis in the Kremlin, the game is amazing for an MSDOS game, with good graphics and sound and a lot of outcomes. The new Crisis suffers from being more processing power intensive than the new Hearts of Iron (it needs a lot) and the design is just awful. I give these recommendations as someone who largely wasn't alive to play MSDOS games.

Also get Tropico 4 instead since it works better for leftypol type shit, can't remember why but I remember going back

Far Cry 3 and 2 are the best.

Someone made a version of Debord's Game of War for tabletop simulator if anyones interested.

Sadly assets seem to be of a more realistic miniature type but it shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Rebull me on Debord's Game of War

Series of videos explaining the rules (first video removed for copyright):

About and rules from a software group hopefully still working on a 2D video game version of it:

This is ominous.

Also of interest: Shadow President. It's not leftist, per-se, and you can only play as the USA, but considering we're mentioning DOS games, it's 100% worth checking out. Very little is hardcoded, so you can get insane scenarios like France entering a civil war of imperialist monarchists with the goal to nuke Germany (actually happened to me, they won and dropped the bomb despite my protests) fighting against the socialist party.

It's hard, but it's entirely possible to team up with the communist bloc. I also had a cool scenario where the monarchists regained power in Russia, invaded Poland and Japan and a concerned red-hardliner China teamed up with me, the USA, to take them down and restore order. I had another game where the Soviet Union entered my alliance and stationed troops in my nation. Wound up bleeding out all of my popularity and being assassinated by nationalists, though.

Playing back into the small amount of hardcoded AI decisions, the filters and statistics are relative. If the great powers of the world and their allies have become so corrupt and totalitarian, shithole states like Central Africa and Eritrea will start to show up as ethical, despite still being hellholes. Popularity is entirely decided by your people's concerns, your ethics, and your military aggression level. It's possible for your people to view imperialism positively and you to get popularity boosts from war even though the manual states it's only controlled by your ambition and ethics. I had one game where I managed to make Americans so bloodthirsty that dropping a nuke incurred a loss of about 10%, whereas allying the Soviet Union would have been much worse. Nukes can be world changing, as it simulates (though exaggerates) radioactive fallout.

If you're interested, I have a booster pack of modded scenarios. The website that used to hold them is long dead.

Go for it lad.

Nice trips. File uploads are broken right now, so I had to upload it externally.

This is good stuff, thank you based user

…grow up

Black flag, not even once.

nah. read his whole text and from what he got that reaction, it's all infantile. smh

How do you get that far? I can only keep running all the time.

I don't think the r-s-g is ever coming back, as far as I know it was torpedoed by Alice Becker-Ho herself.

Not an argument anarkiddy

The liberal Horseshoe Theory bullshit of most Paradox games fucking pisses me off

Not sure what you mean there. I'm assuming you're talking about the few that simulate modern politics, so HoI and Victoria. That's not exactly true for either, since in Victoria 2, Communist and Socialist parties (sadly just ML and socdem thanks to the game mechanics) policies are WORLDS away from the right wing, and in Darkest Hour and HoI3, politics can be highly varied, not "left is right totalitarianism xD"

New Vegas has basically anarcho-communist-pacifists and mutualists in a post-post-apocalyptic setting.

Imagine my shock

Have you (or anyone else here) managed to complete a run through as a neolib dictator? Every time I tried I'd get overthrown by one of the socialist politicians, the closet I got was radical centrism with that "muh technocracy" party

you're just a worthless freakie with a waifu and a failure irl.

You need to build the foundations for your dictatorship first. Fund the death squads and LIMPA, pacify the workers with limited reform and rob the left of political ground. When you've created a repressive enough state, go full ameriblob and privatize all the things.

The first time I tried that I accidentally went Nazbol. The agricultural industry was fully collectivized to please the radical communists, but the rest of the industry was privatized and labor unions were banned. Never managed to put my full privatization in effect, but my general with the CIA's backing staged a coup during the elections and created a Pinochet style military dictatorship in the end.

That clears things up, I'll do that next time.

Also have you ever had a playthrough which didn't devolve into right-wing paramilitaries butchering their way through the countryside?

I've had several where I managed to crush them fast enough that there was little problem. Arming the co-ops is extremely important in that. I've seen a dude reconcile both forces and create a unified standing army, but that's extremely rare.

I wrote to the r-s-g guys and they said they will probably fix it this summer.

The what now?

That picture always depresses me whenever I see it posted.
What could have been I suppose.

On topic: Kaiserreich is just the best.

Video games wouldn't exist in a society where communists had won. Stop playing them.

What a stupid post

I'm now permabanned banned from their forums because I pointed out that changing "Collectivism" to "Authoritarianism" and "Individualism to Egalitarianism" in an update to Stellaris was basically just Wiz forcing his personal politics on everyone that played the game.

For context, he did not make the game just became "creative director" after release. Immediately started injecting his liberal idealism one update at a time.

Wiz? How does that warrant a ban?

The paradox forums and those that run them are notorious for severe reactions to criticism. Part of it has to do with the nature of their historical games, which attracts nationalist autists of all varieties that bitch constantly and endlessly about national balance and the relative importance of whatever irrelevant country they come from. Another is that the owner Johan seems to have become intensely sensitive to criticism either of himself directly or of Paradox in general (like for their endless and sometimes lackluster dlc).

So a permaban isn't really surprising. What makes it especially shitty though is that note paradox hides all the mods behind forum registration, which are 60-70% of the reason to buy their games in the first place.

This sounds like a class action lawsuit waiting to happen, best of luck to them with their faggotry.

Dude, a lot of people actually complained about the Collectivism/Individualism thing precisely because it equated "Individualism" with Capitalism and "Collectivism" with slavery. I was one of those people. The new ethics system is way more neutral in that regard.

Yeah that's way better than it was at release bro when it was basically libertarian propaganda. That will be included in my eventual video on it.

I mean the most extreme example is HOI4, where Communism and Fascism are functionally the same, and liberalism is literally just referred to as "Democracy"

But hell even in DH the political spectrum was pretty horseshoe

What the actual fuck are you even talking about at this point

The guy didn't even mention the girl in the pic at all in his post, you're just making baseless assumptions and lashing out for no reason, give it a rest.

Not really a lefty game, but I found this funny.

There's this spreadsheet game called "Stalin's Dilemma"(see zip) that is quite interesting. The goal is manage 5 year plans well enough to get enough industry and army score to beat the Germans in 1942, without killing more of your own citizens than Stalin did.

Since it is based on 90's Capitalist statistics, I dispute the idea that millions of Soviet citizens needed to die to industrialize the USSR in time for WW2. Stalin was a moron who fucked up the USSR, and we shouldn't seek to emulate him. But, it's still an incredibly complex simulation of a 5 year plan, and thus should be of interest for any communist.

Donn Throgg is NAZBOL!!!!!!

Kerghan did nothing wrong.

If you're in the mood for a JRPG, Persona 5 is lefty as fuck for a Japanese game.

Check out the new crisis in the Kremlin from time to time. Guy updates it like once a week.

I keep regretting not buying TTS when it was on sale.

Next time…
