It is not a map showing invasion theatres, if it were the Soviets would not belong on the map either as their amphibious capabilities in the Pacific were likely next to nothing. It shows zones of occupation following an invasion of Japan following the planned US invasion, but as Japan surrendered before the invasion took place these zones were never put into effect.

Implementation of USSR-style communism in Japan might have worked out differently. Japan was a much more developed nation than either Korea or China, and it had a left-wing tradition at the time, although the Imperial government had mostly succeeded at suppressing it during the build-up to WWII.
