Stalin's popularity in Rusia is hardly different from Franco's popularity in Spain. People have a soft spot for them not because of their politics (which they probably don't know much about) but because the lack of proper prospects in contemporary late capitalism drive proles to yearn for a nostalgic golden age they could possibly return to someday.
