A change in politics comes only through hegemony or revolution that introduce a new hegemony.

Marx was not primarily a political thinker, and even when he was writing about politics ( see critique of political economy) it was with the British liberal capitalist regime, and therefore at the core of his analysis was property and accumulation.

Gramsci forged the final dialectical synthesis in Marxism (which Althusser, Zizek, Marcuse largely copied) which was politics is contest of two or more regimes, that fight an ideological battle of power in the institutions, and laws of the state. Now no one denies, not even Gramsci, that this conflict as expressed in the modern period is a class conflict between the bourgeoisie and the proletariat classes. But the nature of the conflict itself, is nothing other but a struggle of power.

Why did Marx & Engels miss this analysis? Because quite simply they had no background knowledge of continental European political philosophy, and thought that the British Utilitarians were the ultimate bourgeois enemies and John Locke the apex bourgeois thinker. In reality if you want to see first hand what "cultural capitalism" is just read Weber's protestant ethic, on the role Protestantism played on the rise of capitalism.

Gramsci only made the self-evident connection, that revolutions, struggles, and wars are empty without worldview hinging at the base of the conflict.

Don't forget the breakthrough that critical theory made by combining hegelian dialectics with Freudian psychoanalysis. Thesis, antithesis, synthesis was used by Marx to explain the working class against the ruling class in order to create a classless society. Apply these dialectics to any social/cultural issue for presto conflict. Oppressor, oppressed, utopia. Women against men for genderless society. LGBT against heterosexuals to create a society where orientation doesn't matter. Freudian analysis comes in by declaring your opponents to be insane. You empower LGBT against heterosexuals to create social justice AND then you say anyone who disagrees is repressing their homosexual urges. It is phobic to oppose us. Pathologizing our opposition has worked wonders. It's way easier than explaining this shit to people who would hate us if they understood that we are willing to burn it all down to rule over the ashes. Ungrateful swine.

Capitalism isn't propped up by economics alone. The culture that tolerates it objectively abets it. As long as that culture exists we're facing an uphill battle. Now some people like this culture, but they don't matter. Communism isn't about making people happy it's about stopping capitalism. Marx had the right weapon, but didn't aim it at the right point. Luckily we figured that out.

I if I was Holla Forums I would be saying gender studies, lgbtq+whatever and whatever else identity politics nonsense that is fashionable today is part of cultural marxism.

In fact I will forego even the tittle "Cultural Marxism" because it was poisoned from teh very beginning by the New Left which misapplied thanks to Marcuse the notion of culture and power, and thought that Marxism as a theory has some absurd inborn alliance with all the oppressed of the word no matter the background. This kind of Marxism is even more hampered by the fact that recently in the New Left, you have a wholesale sell-out to the neo-liberal hegemonic power regime and a quiet alliance between the two in name of "progressive modernity".
