The protesting Left in the U.S. should return to it’s trollish and creative roots à la the Yippies in the 60’s. Stuff like raining fake money in the New York Stock Exchange. THAT attracts people to your movement, not violent thugs wearing all black yelling and being angry.
That girl from the HWNDU cam is right when she says “satire is a really powerful tool and the right are killing you guys. They’re way way funnier than you” youtube.com/watch?v=arHZKclwPyk
Antifa is the agressive side while the red hats are sitting back and laughing side. It’s why PJW is able to say things like the Right is the new counter-culture, because their side actually makes you want to join in.
Wyatt Brooks
No. Fuck you. The last time protests ever changed anything in the US was when they were organised and armed to the teeth.
Julian Harris
Yes more Situationists in the streets
Luke Ramirez
no my friend, if we're gonna go back to the 60s/70s I want the weather underground the symbionese liberation army
Liam King
I agree, meme activism should be the praxis of the 21st century. Like those anarchists fixing potholes in Portland playing off the "what about le roads" meme.
Camden Campbell
The American right isn't doing anything. Satire is useless. Left Liberals have been using it for decades and have consistently lost ground against right wingers.
Dylan Phillips
yup
Juan Taylor
No it's not. All of that liberal satire didn't stop the rise of the right. Start being active in the community and organizing politically. Nobody actually gives a shit about any of these rallies and in a few years they'll be looked at with more derision than chantology. Also, PJW is a fucking dipshit.
Brody Sullivan
It attracts people to your side, the hippie counter-culture was huge. Antifa isn't attracting anyone or accomplishing anything.
Carson Brooks
Or when mobilizations were some massive that the government had no choice but to eventually admit defeat, like with Vietnam War.
Caleb Morales
SLA was idpol garbage like almost all left movements at the time.
Charles Peterson
And that was the hippie movement
Blake King
The kind of attention that aut-rights get are old people looking for any kind of validation, and 12 year olds that need new edgy material for Twitch chat spam.
Jose James
...
Brody Lopez
Protests didn't end the Vietnam war. Nixon did after tearing a rift between revisionist Russia and China.
Eli Wright
What I'm saying is that they don't really have normie appeal at all. Liberalism was edgy during the neoconservative years, now it's the norm and nationalism is edgy.
Alexander Rivera
The aut-right was only funny for the Trump election, now it is a joke that has run dry. We need a new movement that isn't shitty virtue signaling "THIS IS WHAT DEMOCRACY LOOKS LIKE"
James Garcia
Join Action Front
Logan White
What's that?
Camden Green
No all of this is pure cancer that never has and never will achieve anything.
Jace Watson
It attracted people to the movement, unlike today with Antifa
Jack Gomez
Satire as political action doesn't work. Satire as messaging (a la Situationists) kind of works, but only as education. It's not a substitute for organizing.
As for the hippies, remember when they had a Be-In and mediated around the Pentagon thinking they would levitate it? Yeah…
Ryder Phillips
...
Jordan Cruz
tbh shit like pic related is antifa's biggest recruiter afaik; media can super easily be influenced by leftism as it is currently liberalism
Dylan Hughes
Gregg Rulz OK
Kevin Russell
Yeah that was the Yippies and didn't actually think it was going to levitate. It was a joke.
Jayden Flores
It's pretty bad for a political organization if you make yourself the joke tbh.
Colton Reyes
haha no
Adam Bennett
This will never not make me angry.
Kevin Baker
just get a different job then :^)
Connor Young
In fairness, most of the people in the 60s weren't hippies and most actual hippies didn't sell out that badly.
The problem is that a lot of Boomers think that because they dropped LSD a few times and listened to psychedelic rock, that means they were a part of the "counter-culture movement". Kind of like how some of them think they were in the Civil Rights Movement because they saw a MLK speech once. In truth, the real movers and shakers of the 1960s movements were a pretty tiny minority, even among the youth.
Carter Fisher
The left should be the workers' movement as it was until the cancer of 68 started to infect everything. Hippies can fuck off back into the dustbin of history, they're all dude weed lmao tier
Ryder Garcia
Absolutely
Eli Miller
is this the real life version of "muh better memes"? because the right really has zero idea how funny they are.
Ayden Torres
smug masturbation isn't satire. Talking down to people and writing shit and dated jokes about bourgeois slapfights is literally not funny on an objective level.
Satire requires some sense of mischief and subversion. 4chan has always been good for this, Holla Forums's antics during last year's election campaign being the best recent example. Fascist or not, some of the content they were putting out was fucking hilarious and i used to check in there every few days to see what they were coming out with.
you just have to look at the leftist subs on rebbit to see the disparity in attitude, no fun allowed no jokes no sense of comraderie or community. Just this dour seriousness and self-righteousness, anyone who visits /r/socialism is there because they're already a socialist because there's no other reason to visit the place. Same goes for shit like SNL and John Oliver, no non-liberal would watch these shows - not because they don't want to hear other views but because these shows are objectively not funny unless you're a liberal. it's all masturbation pure and simple.
Aiden Johnson
That's exactly what satire is. Pic related could be a bizarro John Oliver/Jon Stewart bit. Holla Forums satire only seems unique because it is so far outside of the mainstream. In the end it's all the same shit.
Ryan Watson
this. satire is just people who can read writing strawman fanfiction. there are degrees of funniness and i'm actually amazed anyone ever laughed at john oliver but that's still what satire is.
