I love Death in June too, especially their more electronic album "Nada!". Their early albums actually don't have that much to do with nationalism beyond edgy aesthetics on the cover art. Their lyrics could be more aptly described as romantic nihilism or something.

In any case, what is your exact problem with militarism? I didn't like my time in the military (there is draft in my country) because it's basically dumber people telling you what to do but I don't really see how we could ever defend a revolution without having some sort of militarism.

I dont consider the abillity to self defend through a professional military as militarism. But the veneration and integration of the military into the national myth, making it into a central object of national identity and a symbol of national strenght is militarism. There is no better way to force nationalism on the population than through agressive use of the military and guilt tripping everyone into supporting "our" boys. In allmost all current nation states the miltary is considered a virtual extension of the whole unified population body.

Also I dont just reject nationalism, I am far more radical regarding that. I reject the concept of nations, their myths, the identification with past population groups and the mixing up of culture and nation. I consider the nation state as one of the worst abominations of capitalist liberalism.

I don't think militarism must exclusively happen in a nationalist context. I'm against bourgeois militarism just as any other comrade but I don't believe militarism as something inherently bad. Even an Anarchist country would have strong militarism, which can be seen in Catalonia.

Yes militarism is far older, but just as it supported the ruling elites in pre-capitalist societies and the Soviet Union so does it in our current society. As far back as the Kaiserreich in Germany one of the mainstruggles of the left was against militarism and the invenetable jingoism associated with that. We should never forget that the first WW was what buried our best chances of communism in west europe.
