I've noticed that a major difference between Holla Forums and most popular chan boards aside from explicitly international ones is that a lot less people seem to be Americans, presumably because politics left of the Democrats are untouchable to most of them.
How accurate is this in reality? Or am I just too disillusioned with my own country?

It's fairly accurate, anyone beyond a liberal to the U.S. is "a commie" or "socialist".
Plus you know, extensive Cold War propaganda has made anything remotely left communist to the U.S.

American leftists are either too soft for politics or too active for chans. The first group are the standard liberal gamers while the second are more dedicated like Michael Israel. There are also many more minority activists in the USA compared to in Europe so the left is still easily divided.
Even Americans get bored and discuss things though. The only reason Internet forums became popular is because of people with actual life interests needing a discussion medium.

Then there are the people who started out as Bernie people but got stuff linked to us at the right time and moved further left, only to become incredibly despondent about the state of affairs here and resort to reading literature, hoping to counter the endless flow of propaganda mixed in with short-attention-span-grabbing distractions and to maybe find what was lost and what can become of it when reclaimed. I know there are others out there like me.
I've never met another leftist IRL. They're all "left"-liberals (SJW type) where I live. Everyone is. There are also some lolberts as you move closer to Silicon Valley, but I don't know any personally. I do have some rightwing, Trump-loving relatives in my extended family. Closest DSA chapter is in Berkeley (haha NOPE).
I didn't even know about Holla Forums until I heard about Holla Forums. In fact, I've only been on boards outside of this one and /gnussr/ 3-4 times. This place is a godsend. I might have gone crazy and broken to idpol at last if I thought I was truly alone in my far left economism.

I think theres still probably a fair amount of Americans solely because stuff like chans and the like are so filled with American Males 18-30. It's probably a lower proportion than average here though.

Why don't you want to join DSA? The East Bay chapter seems like one of the most effective in the country. I paid to join a couple of months ago but I haven't gone to the Sacramento chapter yet because I'm busy every time they have a meeting.

I'm from America. Only my closest friends know my political stance. My family is mostly comprised of Republicans who already hate that I came out to them as an Agnostic Atheist. But alot of the younger college aged Anarchists I've seen post here have a healthy amount of idpol bias when they first start posting here. I always figured it was mostly Americans that were like that, so it was to be expected.
