People who drink (or use any drug) beyond what's socially convenient and make it a source of self-harm probably only do so because they're either suffering from some mental disorder or because they're so crushed by the demands and alienation of bourgeois society that the only form of thing they have at the end of the day, after hours of hard labour, of commuting their way through a murderous and endless display of poor public infrastructure, of knocking their heads over bills and taxes and of attending all the necessities of our draining and self-segregating family life and so on, is to numb themselves with alcohol or something else. It's also the only way many people can remain functional during those.

That won't be the case anymore when healthcare has reached the point where everyone who feels depressed, anxious or whatever will receive free professional help and be assigned, if needed, the proper medicine for free, when work is no longer a soul-crushing experience where you waste half of your life away, when competition in the labor market is not so strong that students and trainees have to regularly lose sleep as part of their routines, when institutions that promove communal ties will again be seen as desirable instead of potential sources of dissent, when we're no longer desperate to prove ourselves worthy of "attracting investment" that we can afford to experiment with our school system and our methods of pedagogy, when public initiative takes care of some of the burdens of family life, and when we nationalize all of Elon Musk's whacky new transport ideas and actually make them work.

Crackdown on "undesirable" activities is the reactionary path, studying the conditions and structures that lead to that behavior and changing them is the progressive path. Realising that in order to change those conditions you might have to shoot the economic interests that shapes and sustains them is the Socialist path.

Prohibition never works. Look at the US's alcohol prohibition. Look at the US now. It's easier for a 12yo to get drugs than it is for him to go and buy a lighter at a gas station. "Won't legalization make that easier?" Yes, but the fact that the drug will have been sourced from a trusted, safe producer, it reduces the risk of them harming themselves with the drug (OD, addiction, etc.). I became a communist because of the fact that I took drugs and realized that greed and capitalism are horrible forces that fuck people over all the time. Psychedelics allow for massive self improvement, especially in the area of one's conscious and philosophical ideas.

I was thinking of something similar but you said it better. One anecdote I can throw in is that soldiers who developed heroin addictions in Vietnam were able to drop them instantly when they hit the US, but ONLY if they had strong support systems.

I think that people here are widely not considering what strong community and support does, and I suggest them to open their imagination a bit :)

I tend to go on and then quit The Dank for years at a time.. It'll drain you and make you seriously dumb if dependent, but also good to take in media & make the trivialities on the rational/emotional/territorial mind get absorbed into somatic sensation & healing.
It's good to get the endorphins from yourself, by naturally completing something of value.. Put all those baked ideas to good use at some point, and don't get lost in the sauce.
