Hello, long time Holla Forums lurker but as the years went the more I realize I was bandwagoning on their beliefs and consensus because memes and want to re-learn the current situation.
I'm not sure what I want exactly. I'm more sympathetic toward socialism than capitalism but don't mind the system of exchanging money for goods and services and being paid for work. I hate the corruption and what capitalism has made people into but I can just not get into a Marxist solution.
I just want the American solution; just doing what is right. I'm not into how both people on the left and right twist the foundation in which this country was founded on such as allowing the wealthy do to what they want just because "they earned the right to" or thinking Washington intended the people to be absolutely free without responsibility to using their liberty.
Read Einstein's "Why Socialism", Oscar Wilde's "The Soul of Man Under Socialism" and the classical liberals like Rousseau or Voltaire. That last group of thinkers was not only the ideological drivers of the French and American Revolutions, but their reasoning when applied to capitalism in practice directly gave rise to socialism.
Oh wow, thank you guys for the material! I'll definitely take a look into them.

Also read Rousseau's "Discourse on Inequality". It's a good overview of how power and hierarchy develop out of class society and how the state operates to maintain the power of the ruling class through force. It's basically proto-Marxism and Marx will be easier to understand afterwards. Also you could take a look at this if you want, it's some good entry level info.
Like said, I can definitively recommend Rousseau. He gives a simple, easy to understand argument against private property.

I wish there were more examples of anarchist-marxist unity. Maybe one day we can have a version of this image full of flags.

When will you fools realize that memes are extra poison when added to already poisonous politics?

This book is not really leftist theory, but it is a fun and easy bit of philosophy that can help to dispell some of the mystifications of the material forces at play.

He did already. That's why he is here.

read federalist #10, the paper that reveals that the US democracy was intended to prevent opposition to power.
also consider reading Smith, because most of his observations in the wealth of nations were plagiarized by Marx.
The best person to read about that has a fair representation of the left and the history of liberalism and labor in the US is Noam Chomsky.

you'd probably be into mutualism( ) and market socialism.
In regards to Marx I think you should at least try and understand his analysis of capitalism before discarding him as le utopian man lelelol.
