Didn't the 2016 leadership election establish that the PLP can't oust the leader? He is automatically put on the ballot and then it's up to the membership. He will probably stay if he can avoid a major loss of seats (although he probably won't be able to do that). And we all know how much society likes to reaffirm its own beliefs by normalization. If Corbyn wins, people won't be able to tell themselves that socialism isn't something people want. If Corbyn wins, people will believe that someone like Corbyn is electable. If Corbyn wins, it will dispell all these self-fulfilling prophecies about unelectability, and his ideas being fringe and unpopular. It will create a statement that cannot be ignored; not to the state, to the Tories, or any of that bullshit - no - a statement to people about what the society around them is thinking. That is a real spark for the dawning of a mass movement to the left.

Corbyn is an old school leftie Soc Dem who stumbled on to the ballot for Labour Party leadership in 2015 (Labour Party is the opposition party i.e. 2nd largest party after Tories) and won the leadership with huge public support, but is hated in his own party amongst the members of parliament because of his "far left" ideas. Support Corbyn, kick out the Tories, and get new Labour Party members of parliament in who actually back the leadership and are in touch with the votership.

I think you are confusing 2012 Mélenchon with 2017 Mélenchon because a huge part of his 2017 campaign was to win the "moderate" vote.

Went out canvassing today for a few hours, got a lift from a comrade to the meeting site and then we got going, we were in rich suburbia today so a lot of old people tories, and a handful of labour people but most were undecided and were willing to take a leaflet and be talked to about Corbyn. Reckon the Torys will gain 'Berwickshire, Roxburgh & Selkirk' consistency SNP have a majority of just under 400. Whilst SNP seat of 'Dumfries and Galloway' is vulnerable to the Tory esp if there is a bit of pro-Union tactical voting.

It's certainly possible, but I'm holding out for good news.
(B,R&S has a history of being lib-dem, so hopefully they'll "revert" a bit, and hopefully DG doesn't tactically vote.)
I suppose the real question is about turnout, whether the SNP can keep their base motivated to actually vote.

Now the lib dems have said that they wont join a coalition, do you think if neither labour nor the tories get enough seats (which is probably the best hope for a not tory government) will they go back on that a join with labour which i feel like would be their natural choice. Now I'm not british (on vacation in London atm) but she went rambling on about the sorry state of education and child illiteracy and so on. She blames 'child-oriented teaching', teacher unions and 'socialism'. Can anyone give me the quick rundown on what's wrong with your education system?

Government has changed the curriculum twice in quick succession, teachers are paid jack shit and are leaving the profession in droves. No one want to be a teacher because everyone knows you can't live on the pay, teachers are being effectively imported from other countries.
Teacher's have ridiculous workloads and are unable to perform given their low numbers.
School funding in general has been cut brutally and isn't being funded more, meanwhile the tories are pushing for more grammar schools after their 'academies' program (selling state schools into the private sector as 'academy chains' and funding them a lot more) started collapsing.

In effect, education is being purposefully destroyed so that it becomes so unbearably shit the people beg for it to be privatised and the tories will gladly oblige (same deal with the NHS and social care). In the meantime the tories give out tax cuts to corporations, sell everything else and pump public money directly into the private sector in all sorts of schemes.

I don't think that's too bad of an idea, considering it's what we have here in the Netherlands (but this might be my bias cause I'm at the highest level and will be able to directly go to university) and it can allow for some meritocracy and social mobility, but it can also serve to confirm class-based segregation.

Nor me, I think its still worth trying. But even if they do win they will make the country a bit better but they will fuck up. Which will lead people to no longer trust "the left" which will probably drag people more right again. While if labour do get wiped out we might see people going more left (probably just slightly more left wing soc dem but still who knows)
Also its a shame to see that people, especially some students are starting to think voting lib dem and being a liberal is revolutionary and progressive.

I think its a good move. Without May there Corbyn hasn't got anything to gain, he'd just get attacked viciously by the Lib Dems over not being pro-EU. The only useful thing would be if he could btfo Sturgeon and the SNP.
But May can't accuse him of cowardice or running away since that's what she's doing and it might get her to concede to appearing in the tv debate.

Yeah the other parties would gang up on him in an attempt to take the labour vote, while apart from the SNP's seats Labour has nothing to gain. However if May could be pressured by the public or by a decrease in her lead to do a tv debate May vs Corbyn, May wouldn't stand a chance she has 0 debating skills and would say the same sound bites over and over again.
