Huey Long Thread

Was Huey Long a communist? As a Louisianain I was always fascinated by him. Even thou he denounced communism I still find his ideas to be very far left, mainly his idea's on wealth redistribution and wealth limitation. With that said what ideology would this guy be?

brocialist

huey long did nothing wrong

He was an extremely radical social democrat at best. He never supported workers self management or even economic planning.

Not a marxist/anarchist for sure. He was more of a radical authoritarian socdem. If he'd gotten his way he'd probably have created a technocratic state capitalism so pretty much the ussr but without calling itself socialist.

He was a nationalist social democrat. Basically, alt right.

Look at his VP

Honestly, the best way to describe him would probably be populist, though not in a bad way. I don't think he actually subscribed to any particular ideology.

A Left Populist, which usually amounts to being on the left wing of capital as leftcoms like to say.

I read his biography, and he came of mostly as someone with an extreme personality disorder of some kind, really strange fellow. A lot of his moves seemed mostly geared towards amassing power and fucking over people he hated - which mercifully included a host of class enemies.

He was pretty typical of the more left progressives in that era, was able to make FDR look weak in contrast.

He fucked up, though, when he actually got to power. He raided the state coffers for his own leisure and installed his family members in state government.

Except he was sympathetic with blacks and was one of the better Southern politicians on race relations of the era

If anyone is interested in listening to a funny bio of Long, here's a pod covering him:

No, he was a left leaning populist, but represented a big enough threat to the established political and economic order that in all likelyhood FDR and corporate america was behind his assassination

dis nigga got murked?

yeah, watch the Ken Burns doc on him.

Jesus Christ, this podcast is mostly good, but the hosts occasionally come off as massive faggots.

I mean the comparisons between Trump and Long are warranted in this context, though. IIRC, the ep came out around the election and the whole point was to discuss the last time we had a successful populist in American politics

He was nearly the Lenin of Louisiana, if only he were a bit more radical.
Otherwise, he's one of the few Louisiana politicians who actually put any money into public works, so, thanks Huey.

Huey Long is much, much more out there and radical than Trump, even with Trump's weirdest proposals of the time. I can understand the comparison, and I know it's somewhat warranted, but it seems akin to comparing Sanders to Rosa Luxembourg because they are both on the left.

Asserist

Aaaand in the end of the podcast they explain it's why Trump is uncomparable to a genuine populist. I don't like the "FASCISM!!! FASCISM!!!" they throw in, but still, I should have waited 'till the end.

First real socdem since Teddy. Shame they made him a fascist in Kaiserreich.

If memory serves, the AUS going fascist can only happen under a certain set of circumstances(GET RID OF KHUN, OR GO WITH THE CSA FROM THE OUTSET).

Daily reminder that insufferable liberals like Sinclair Lewis (among others) thought that Long was more dangerous than Hitler. He was basically the only left wing politician to ever make it far in America (Bernie doesn't count since he does nothing 99% of the time.)

Hoover apologists need not apply.

Only thing the CSA lacks is a stronger anarchist presence like you see with the other Syndicalist nations.

Sometimes I wonder if dimension hoppers are part of the Kaiserreich team. Also, whenever I play as the Union of Britain, I hemorrhage tech to the CSA.

That said, I know that the Kaiserreich team have considered adding in Howard Scott and the Technocracy Movement as a faction.

I have entertained the idea several times of personally working to add them into the mod.
Likely as a possible route the Pacific States could take.

Why even live
