/scot/pol general

I'm a refugee from Holla Forums, which is full of eternal anglos jerking themselves dry over UKIP/Brexit/Mummy May and plastic paddy IRA larpers, but there's no good discussion about Scotland. How many of you are following happenings in Scotland? What do you make of the (un-nationalist and progressive) independence struggle?

I would explain it to ya, but the mods ban all discussion

I hope the scots split from the UK

What is wrong with you?

I'm not nationalist but anything to get away from Tory Island tbh

pls don't go

I want a socialist republic of britain

I supported brexit, sort of support scottinde.
Generally I see increased self determination as a good thing. Nationalism is as leftypol likes to say "spooky", but I'd rather have a little bit of nationalism, than neo-liberal internationalism.
So I'd support them more enthusiastically if they didn't want to go back to the EU, but still, slightly better than nothing.

We're not nationalist but we're not SJWs either, if that's fine by you.

I believe (as an anarchist) that the EU is a neo-liberal superstate, which is one of the reasons why there were leftists (friendly reminder Labour used to be anti-EU) advocating for its departure.

The problem is, is that I don't believe that under a tory government, things are going to get better.

Good luck with independence jockcomr8s, I wish the north could go with you.

Anglos are cancer tbh

I'm an Anglo and I can confirm this is 100% true

how do you expect a socialist britain to survive if a revolution happened?

as a union of socialist republics?

so long as it means england/scotland/wales alone, then fine. though there should be a strong central government

You can always embrace Socialist Patriotism, b0ss

scotland should be free to follow their socdem dreams imo

we're just holding them back

Anglos are responsible for 110% Holla Forums says jews are

this country used to be progressive ffs

Can the North of England be included in /scotpol/? We've got more in common than with those Southern Tory wankers.
Also

"Anglos" are a spook.

...

bring back the duchies of York and Lancaster so they can form their own state :^)

Bringing back an updated Heptarchy is unironically something I support.

I was just shitposting but I'd like you to expand this

That wasn't something I'd considered, but wtf now I know what my chief aim in life is

Well Great Britain in early middle ages was split into separate countries. They ended up united against viking invasions and then the king at the time condensed them into one kingdom.
But the different regions still never really had anything besides political convenience binding them together.
Throughout history there's been conflict between different regions of the country because of the differences in culture, economic conditions, etc. And there's still widespread resentment towards London for the influence they have over the rest of the country despite the government repeatedly showing they have no concern or care for what's outside the capital.

The best way I see to fix this is to devolve power massively to more regional powers. Obviously they wouldn't be the same as the Heptarchy. London would be its own country for example. But on the whole the divisions wouldn't be too far off. Yorkshire as a country, Northumbria, Lancashire and Manchester together, Mercia roughly where it was historically, the GLORIOUS FREE COUNTRY OF CORNWALL where it obviously belongs, and I don't know enough about the south-east to really have an opinion on how those should be.

The Scottish Parliament is a toytown.
I'm fucking sick of talking about independence too, but the truth is that without it there's basically nothing left for the Scottish Parliament to do but sit back and county-council. Either we throw more powers to it and become a real country, or we drop bourgeois politics entirely while the tories kick the shit out of the managerial middle classes.

While the issue has grated with me more and more as time has gone on (as it's both something massive in scope on a national and local level, and utterly irrelevant to capitalism systematically.) it's also worth looking back and wondering if any magic that appeared in the past was simply a reflection of low expectations. I mean, you can't abolish prescription charges twice.

As a Leninist I support national self determination for the Scottish people.

I'm Scottish and I would like independence, however if someone offered me a socialist republic of Britain instead of an independent capitalist Scotland, I'd be fine with being in Britain.

Scotland is a country ripe for socialism, even the tories are economic socdems. If a Melenchon type went around preaching socialism with the right language, the Scots would get all up on that shiet. I am ready for independence, and glad I will be a citizen.

I hope the Clyde runs red again.

Dig up John Maclean

John Maclean is my wifie.

is this what Britcucks console themselves with, acting as if the IRA didn't have popular support? I see it a lot. And I would appreciate it if Scottish nationalists stopped comparing their situation with Britain to Ireland's too. It's, uh, not at all similar.

not scottish in the slightest but haggis is fucking amazing

As for the whole of the British isles, I can see some form of Nordic Council style entity developing, because the british isles will start to resemble the political structure that are the Scandinavian states. I mean Wales is not going to go independent mostly because hte will not only isn't there but Unionism is actually on the rise. I mean one can clearly tell the border between England and Scotland when driving, England and Wales really isn't there. It will also help the situation in NI, which will likely become a condominium at this rate.

Only people in West Glasgow compare Scottish independence and the IRA's actions: because they are irish and supported the IRA. At the end of the day the IRA were terrorists that bombed Manchester for the sake of a 32 county Ireland? I mean I am all in favour of the NI people deciding what the fuck they do, the 6 counties being a part of the UK doesn't give me an erection, but letting the IRA, UDF and UVA off because you favour their idology is stupid. Remember that the civil rights movement in Ireland started with presbyterians on its side, the IRA drove them away.

Also Kaiserreich Union of Britain flag wen pls mods.

P-please don't leave w-we love you Scotland-kun

That's exactly why we must let them go.
Let what you love be free.

No true Hibernian fallacy…

No REEEEEEEEEEEE

Alba gu bràth!

Independence time, bràithrean.

This. Scotland needs to escape from the abusive relationship it has with England. Westminster is a terrible influence.

I voted for independence last time and will the next time too, albeit more apathetically.

An interesting sidenote about leftism historically in Scotland, there used to be a stirnerite anarchist movement in Glasgow, who interpreted the union of egos in a syndicalist fashion.

Do you have any information on that?

Gaughan is a bit of a hero, his rendition of Now Westlin Winds (Burns's Autumn song), is one of my favourite recordings ever.

From the anarchist faq on Stirner, I cant find any particular sources with more info though. Wikipedia itself cites the anarchist faq.
