I'm interested in Anarchism but I guess I should read some Marx first?
Please don't recommend english introductory texts, I would prefer to read in my native language.

The Conquest of Bread, relatively short and easy to read.

Anything by Chomsky is good for beginners, although I don't know if he really counts as "theory". Bookchin is also very accessible, while still being quite in-depth. If you want to get straight to the heart of anarchist theory - read Proudhon's "What is Property".

You should definitely read Marx at some point, but you don't have to start with him. In fact, Proudhon predates Marx and explored a lot of the same ideas.

I'd say Marx is usually a good place to start. Engels' The Principles of Communism, Marx and Engels' Communist Manifesto and Part 1 of the German Ideology, and Marx's Wage Labor and Capital are all good short pamphlet-sized introductory works. Some people think the Manifesto is a bad introduction, I don't agree, but reading Principles first is definitely advised. From there, if you want to go the Anarchist route there's Kropotkin's The Conquest of Bread, if you want to go full Marxist there's Lenin's State and the Revolution. After that you'll have enough background to make your own decisions. Happy reading comrade!

...

Thank you!

Thanks. I've read a bit by Chomsky but yeah, I would agree that it's not really theory

German.

You should find most of those works in your native language if you looked enough.

This lays out an easy to follow path for reading Marx.

Chomsky,Zizek,Bookchin,David Harvey,Richard Wolff and Wolfgang Streeck are all pretty based.

not exactly theory but y'know: they're great.

theory is depressing bourgeois garbage, true revolutionaries inhabit the real world

For the absolute beginner

Whoops forgot this.

And since this user mentions Bookchin, start here with him.

if you're German you can probably find many German copies of the Communist Manifesto. That's a short read and basically sums up "our goals" so to speak

But then there are people who aspire to be amputees or cuckolds.

Principles of Communism
Communist Manifesto
Wage Labor and Capital
and then go straight to Das Kapital, IMO.

Socialism: Scientific and Utopian

Value Price And Profit or Wage Labor and Capital

What is Property?

The Conquest of Bread

God and the State

Homage to Catalonia

After this is you want a taste of non-anarchist leftism look into state and revolution, or if you want to develop your economic theory more look into other essays of
Marx like critique of the gotha program, A Contribution to the Critique of Political Economy, or Grundrisse. You could even jumping straight into Capital vol. 1 (it's a long read be warned)

I'll see If I can find you some links to the texts in german if you're interested.

This is a good list. I'd also recommend reading a little bit about Marx's life to get some background.

Hallo, OP.

- The ABC of Communism

Gilles Dauvé

- Capitalism and Communism

Personally, I think you should go more in chronological order than this. Lenin (at least tries to) build off of Marx, so it's probably best to get a more solid idea on Marx before going to Lenin. Also, I think Imperialism should be required reading before State and the Rev.

To the OP, I think your goal should really just be to read from Marx and Engels until you feel autistic enough to read Capital. You really should have a solid grasp on Marx's thought before you start reading interpretations of Marx's thought. Although, I suppose it might be helpful to read a bit of more contemporary stuff to help get you interested.

I'm a Marxist-Leninist turned Democratic Conferalism

The Communist Manifesto - Marx
Socialism: Utopian and Scientific - Engles (Read the second and third chapters a couple times)

State and Revolution
Imperialism: The Highest Stage of Capitalism

The Next Revolution - Bookchin
Democratic Confederalism - Ocalan

This is a very short reading list. You can probably finish it in less than a month comfortably.

Lies lieber "Lohnarbeit und Kapital". Viele interpretieren das Manifest falsch.

Read some Lenin, honestly. Try this one on for size.

look

Yeah cheers comrade, saw it the first time.

OP here, thanks everyone.

So here's my reading list based on the suggestions

1. Proudhon: What is Property?
2. Engels: Principles of Communism
3. Marx: Wage labour and Capital
4. Kroptokin: The Conquest of Bread
5. Lenin: Imperialism or State and Revolution
6. Bookchin: The next Revolution

Please suggest changes if necessary.

If you want to read up on Syndicalism, Homage to Catalonia (not theory but a good read) and Rudolf Rocker's "Anarcho-Syndicalism, Theory and Practice" are good starting points.

All I can suggest is to start with Kropotkin, as his writing style is buttery smooth and easy to absorb.
