Pretty much the same as the US in that regard

Confucius is a hell of a drug.

Centuries of reactionary cultural tradition

are you daft or just tired?

No I've just had a formal class on the politics of the Asian-Pacific. Confucius had a much farther reach in shaping the attitudes and politics of the region than just China.

...

oh ok (smiling through my teeth. then tell me, my educated friend. when did confucianism make its way to the Land of the Rising Sun, who did it first impact in that land and how has it since shaped their economics and culture? :🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀))

+ cia propping up ldp + yakuza + generally worthless youth

the left that does in exist in east asia is pretty fucking militant. pic related

I'm sure porky was shaking in his boots.

Simple.
It's the embodiment of the cyberpunk dystopia.

...

Do you think all the cyberpunk anime settings from the late '80s and early '90s are something they actually aspire to?

Not that user, but this is the dumbest shit I've ever heard. Such questions are completely unsuited to broad cultural and philosophical traditions lasting millennia. Might as well ask what the name of the first Briton to be impacted by Neo-Platonism was - it's an inane question.
Aside from that stupidity, this isn't even a matter of debate. It's a simple historical fact that Japanese society was massively influenced by Chinese culture and thinking. There's schools which taught Chinese philosophy dating back to the 9th century which were only discontinued in the Meiji period.

Or any first and third country in that regard as well

The 80s were all a warning to a future.

The warning wasn't heard because it was in B-movies and obscure animus.

And now we live in this future.

I remember this.

Poor fucking country.

It was essentially prime pickings for the americans after the second world war

Maoists, not even once.

Jesus.

Was he /ourguy/?

m8 the entire Edo shogunate was based on Confucian and neo-Confucian spooks justifying the harsh social stratification of Japan.

Isn't that the guy behind the sarin gas attacks?

...

What if the USSR successfully invaded Japan?

Surprisingly, we'd likely still have anime; the USSR had a rather notable animation industry, and the gooks had already proven their talent mimicking Disney.

The themes and tones would be vastly different, however.

Oh, what animation we'd have if Stalin wasn't all "Social Realism only".

They aren't as classcucked as you think user, there is a strong leftist presence. In fact their presence seems larger than in many western countries. The JCP is one of the largest communist parties in the world. They have 300 000+ members and hold 21 seats in the house of reps. It is true that the proles are incredibly classcucked due to old-ass traditions but with that comes a strong backlash.

There is 3 times as many hikikomori than that. Wouldn't exactly call that a strong presence.

So what you're saying is, Japan is the result of centuries of accelerationism?

Seems pretty lukewarm tbh. Especially considering their government has been flirting with the far right for years now. Gee, it's almost like accelerationism cows the working class instead of rilng them up!

Considering in the last election they got 13.3% of the votes and actually hold a strong political position in the government is not something to be ignored. How much political power do socialists hold in the US? The answer is nearly none.

Japan has always had a very strong counter-cultural influence since the anarchist/socialist ideas were first introduced at the turn of the 20th century. This shit is nothing new. Since the JCP has had an unprecedented rise in members and now hold a strong influence in the Japanese government I would hardly call that 'lukewarm'. If the same thing was happening in the US we'd be losing our shit right now.

… Someone tell the KKE they suck and even Japan does better.

nice numbers

i guess just more cute girls fighting fascists/capitalists

Why did Confucius have such a negative impact?

Because Confucian values are fundamentally about stifling critical thought and preventing people from questioning the way that society works.

WHY CAN'T I LIVE IN THIS TIMELINE?

Confucianism is poison.

The JCP is barely socdem, but I'm still happy they are getting stronger.

Stalin supported cultural tradition for your big fat information

Source of the gif?

Soyuzmultfilm probably.

Does anyone know much about suicide fines in Japan? I heard somewhere, I think it was the BBC program 'QI', that your family get fined if you commit suicide in the centre of a city but the fine is less the further away from the city you commit suicide at, if that makes any sense.
The only thing I am able to find anything about is suicide fines for people who commit suicide via trains and fines for people committing suicide in a apartment building as the suicide will make people less likely to buy the apartment due to stigma and superstitions around the idea of a 'jiko bukken'.

I know it's slightly off topic but Japan's suicide problem and epidemic social isolationism is really down to the hyper-competitive nature of their economic system and a problem that Japan can not rid itself of without having a revolution.
