Does anyone know much about suicide fines in Japan? I heard somewhere, I think it was the BBC program 'QI', that your family get fined if you commit suicide in the centre of a city but the fine is less the further away from the city you commit suicide at, if that makes any sense.
The only thing I am able to find anything about is suicide fines for people who commit suicide via trains and fines for people committing suicide in a apartment building as the suicide will make people less likely to buy the apartment due to stigma and superstitions around the idea of a 'jiko bukken'.

I know it's slightly off topic but Japan's suicide problem and epidemic social isolationism is really down to the hyper-competitive nature of their economic system and a problem that Japan can not rid itself of without having a revolution.
