Just a quick addendum to everything I said: that this is the state of class politics in Mexico is no accident, both the government and the US did everything in their power to undermine Marxist politics in the country (The Communist Party of Mexico was founded by an undercover CIA agent, look it up) and for many years many leftists were simply murdered/disappeared. As a result what little remained of the Marxist left has simply capitulated/joined the ranks of social democracy.

To elaborate the Mexican political system consists mainly of the following parties:

PRI - For over a century it was the party-state of Mexico (the party was the state and the state was the party) for most of its existence its ideology was a form of state corporatism, in the mid 80's to early 90's it moved to neoliberalism.

PAN- The party that defeated PRI in the presidential elections of 2000 opening up the path for bourgeois democracy (though largely keeping the PRI era institutions) the party was founded back in the 1940's by businessmen and catholics to combat what they perceived as an increasing influence of socialism in the country. Also moved to neoliberalism sometime in the 90's.

PRD- formed by an alliance of marginalized leftist parties in the 1980's. Though nominally leftist they haven't done much to combat the neoliberal reforms.

MORENA- Founded by Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador after he left PRD. Like PRD it is social democracy. There's not much to say about it yet since they haven't existed for very long, but please refer to what I wrote in , the party although young is already struggling with corruption.

As you can see neoliberalism is particularly strong and hegemonic here, it is hegemonic everywhere of course but here specially, parties that nominally reject neoliberalism end up just giving it a "human face", to that add the corruption inherited from the PRI era which is perceived as the way things are, it is completely normalized.

Zapatistas only accept you temporarily if you are a bohemian foreign student just to suck resources out of you. They also seem pretty cool with collecting money on the roads and running their little communities without expanding or building on armed action.
