Stop conflating words that mean different things. Democracy means regular people at large get to vote on shit. That is all it means, no more no less. Republic means that a few people are chosen by locals to represent themselves at a central government. Just because the systems work in tandem doesn't mean they are the same thing.

Both of which should be despised in their entirety, since both tell someone, "with your vote, you can change everything! It's easy!"
