So anons how are you feeling about BLOODSTAINED?

REASONS TO BE HYPED AS FUCK

How about making this thread when it comes out with a nice magnet link attached.

No

Metroidvania's are the best though. What do you play? CAWADOODY clones?

Will you faggots never learn?
it might be worth a pirate because of what the guy has done in the past but it certainly isnt getting my shekels

Metroidvanias have suffered from large saturation mixed in with pixel shit in the years of late. There's too much of a good thing, and good metroidvanias have been a diamond dozen lately.

This is something I also should've put in the "wary" section, mainly because they might be relying on nostalgia-baiting too hard

They are pretty great.

Hollow Knight came from a kickstarter and its devs are pretty based in terms of behavior
Plus the game is bretty gud.

Well this one at least isn't pixelshit user

I'll pass.

user, you sound like the biggest shill ever, but I do have to agree with you. The demo was pretty much everything I wanted, if just a bit slow compared to the NDS castlevanias, it have all the good elements from then, but sadly no music, so I'm worried about that, the music I've heard, particularly the one supposed to be for the main area, sounds really fucking weak, and that's really important for literally all NDS castlevanias, the GBA castlevanias and SOTN I bet you remember all of them, and even the ones classicvanias ones. It's just too gloomy instead of high spirited like it should be.
MN9 was a big fuck you to Capcom and at the end they ended up laughing, user.

Name one metroidvania game that isn't castlevania with a gameplay similar to castlevania. All other metroidvnanias lean more to metroid than to fucking castlevania and that irritates me.

You could have used a better example, at the vert least.

Shiiieeet. I barely knew anything about this game before a few days ago and I tried to be fair to it, rip
In terms of the music, the demo really wasn't all that special, yeah. If I didn't have a high level of confidence in Yamane and Virt, I'd be rather worried as well. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt on it but I'll have to see how that changes in future updates for it.
It does need some
HIGH ENERGY
in it
Embed related, one of my favorite all time tracks from the franchise. It is indeed hard to forget any of the amazing OSTs from this franchise. Combat did look a bit… underwhelming. Its pleasant and flashy enough though.

...

Characters look nice. Backgrounds need work. I'm going to assume most of them aren't done yet, since certain objects seem to be missing textures.

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm talking about. Embed is supposed to be the opening stage music, and it feels more like something you find halfway through. Here's Yamane comment on the track
But I don't feel it. Seems pretty gloomy, as I said, and I understand more or less the direction of the game and the fact that it's a bit tragic and all, but come on, if I have to start this way, that's shitty. That's not to say the track is bad, and it does feel like a beginning, it just need to be a lot more upbeat and with more energy. like most Castle Corridor OST, particularly SOTN one.
How? It was hyped already around the time MN9 and other Kickstarter projects before it was obvious they were cashgrabs, although I have high expectations of the game so far, but, as I said, my biggest complain so far is the music and pretty much just this track.
How so? Looks standard NDS castlevania thing.

Legacy of Darkness is great.

Yes, hollow knight was the exception and one of the few games I went back and bought after playing just to support the guys.
However Devs like that are one in a million, and given the length of time this game has been in kickstarter hell and the amount of time the rewards have changed and had new ones added it just screams MN9 and similar.
But hey this could be another Hollow Knight or Shovel Knight.

...

It isn't even the best 3D castlevania, that's not to say it's bad, but he could provide a better example as to why "metroidvanias" are bad.

Your translation sucks, it's more like
And I think that's wrong anyway.

OSt sounds good
2.5 art looks like utter shit

There's nothing wrong with castlevania having a female protagonist.
Specially if they're hot.

...

Are becoming?

It's miles better than the endless corridors of CoD or the God of War ripoff for the PS3.

Iga didn't censor her tits after the SJWeebs complained and threatened to refund their backing.
Rather, he actually made them bigger, so yeah, theres literally nothing wrong with it.
Not like it was the first time anyway

Its been a fad for like 5 fucking years, do you live under a rock?

Haven't Metroidvania games been a thing since Castlevania rebooted itself and Arkham Asylum came out with everyone going "Muh 3D Metroidvania" (While Prime 3 was doing shots in the next room).

As I don't know too much about the game itself so far I won't comment too much on it, that was just the vibe I was getting from initial impressions but there is a difference between waifu/fapbait and sexualized female protagonists
Think Fire Emblem Awakening girls (can't even remember their names but Sumia and Cordelia's daughter are examples of this) vs someone like Lyn from FE7 as an example.

As I said, I personally consider it neutral/mixed for the moment . If you like that sort of thing that's fine, it can be done well in a castlevania game.

As always you should be wary of anything kickstarter-related. I still think there's more potential in this game than most studios are capable of at the moment.

Waifubait and fapbait aren't real things.

Go play any Fire Emblem before 13, then play 13 and come back and say that

is it meant to look like absolute shit?

This was the opening level to Order of Ecclesia.
Since this game seems to be going for that tone (I suspect they had early plans for an OoE2 at some point), this isn't unfitting.
The opening track usually serves as a kind of introduction to the character you're playing as. Female character = gentler track. I assume that's their logic anyway.

More of a fan of this one truth be told.

I like the genre, but it kind of hurts how a lot of what made it so special gone nowadays.
I hate this fad of putting in markers and whatnot telling me where to go next, and I really despise the lack of post game content. No boss rushes, no super secret boss fights or weapons or photon rifles, nothing.
Say what you will about SotN but that game had an amazing level of detail and depth that you could very much not know about in any of your playthroughs, and weren't even that mandatory to playing the game. Anything from set bonuses to a shitton of weapons and areas and whatnot. It's a horrible shame a lot of metroidvanias miss out on that kind of stuff, and instead opting for a "challenge gauntlet mode"(Guacamelee, Steamworld Dig 2 are the ones that come to mind at the moment) that feels like the utter high point of the game and the way the game itself should have been made in the first place.

Played hollow knight and environmental station alpha recently, which I hear were really good. I dropped both not one hour each. So I might be experiencing burnout on the genre.

I don't have to play anything because I know for a fact that they aren't real things.

Hollow Knight leans closer to the metroid part of 'metroidvania' as do most games in the genre these days
Its a great game but it doesn't have a SotN's weapon variety and RPG elements

Believe whatever you wanna believe user.
I hope you're not one of those people who think anyone who is japanese is incapable of doing wrong.

I said a fad, not a thing.
They're getting popular.

etc

It isn't a matter of belief, it's a matter of fact, and there is no wrongdoing involved here. It isn't "wrong" to have attractive female characters unless you're an SJW.

You're incapable of reading comprehension I see.

And what are you saying I failed to comprehend?

I just played like 40 minutes of it and it seemed to do everything in its power to dissuade me from continuing.
I realize this makes me sound like I have adhd but it started off so fucking boring, with a boring ass cutscene and everything looking so grey and lifeless and the music being sad ambience and then it told me I gotta buy the fucking map and the combat was god damn boring as well.
Like compare this to sotn where you play as richter and it hooks you in and then you get alucard's narration and you play as alucard while that sweet ass tune is playing and alcuard looks fucking baller and he's fun to play and he back dashes, and the first item you get are sunglasses and shit, you're hooked in from the start.

Fucking Konami

...

None of those are even close to good.

CoD is still better, only flaw being the corridors, same with LoI.

He actually did. Yes, they are bigger now, but the original design had more cleavage, exposing the chest a lot more. I can't find the original design since it seems all of them were modified already, but originally, pretty sure she didn't have that black thing in the right side of her chest.

Monastery is a lot more upbeat than the one from Bloodstained, in fact, Monastery is one of my favorite songs since towards the middle it becomes really lively, but the one in Bloodstained keeps itself like that. Also, see that's the "beginning" song for the castle, and fits a lot more the opening songs of other castlevanias, and I'm sure that was premeditated.

To be fair, SOTN didn't have any of that, and although the later games did, it wasn't that good, although modes like Sisters Mode or Belmont Mode were top notch. I say that what all these games lack is variety of items, SOTN had a shit ton of items to discover and since some of them were drop dependent you could play with a different item in various playthroughs, and the hidden secrets that aren't obvious.

All metroidvania games lean more to metroid than castlevania, even the melee ones, take a look at Shantae and Guacamelee, they are metroid without range attacks, maybe except for shantae. You don't have a lot of weapons nor enemy drops nor enemy variety or even a bestiary, and you advance with collectibles rather than equipment. Name a "metroidvania" game that doesn't fucking do this.

I'm sorry, user… Luckily, I got to play it for a while on PS3. That game would be wonderful on PC.

Outside of the weapons Lecarde Chronicles 2 might be what you're looking for.

No, you just sound like you're black.

It gets better though
I'M STILL MAD!!!

That I said there is a difference between attractive female characters who are actually good, and characters specifically meant to pander to otakus/weebs rather than being well-written characters and being praised on both their design and as characters as a whole.
Go ask any fan of Fire Emblem and they'll tell you that Awakening is a waifu simulator, with all the characters fitting into stereotypes and archetypes with their designs fitting their one-note personalities. Usually they fall into some -dere box.
as an example

I don't like pure fapbait or waifubait in my games, it tends to detract from character and story integrity to pander to the player. I'm fine with sexualized characters if they're actually worth a damn.

How is it pandering? Do you realize that sex appeal is a normal thing in Japan and has been for decades? People started making porn games about as soon as home computers became a thing. It was the otaku themselves who did that.

Weebs are beyond irrelevant to anyone in Japan.

A waifu is a character who is your wife. That is all it means. There are no waifu simulators or waifubaiting or any of that shit.

Well that's what Shanoa was. I assume this character is the same, since she's just Shanoa with short hair.

here's my thing about bloodstained: have you played salt & sanctuary?

no, I'm serious, have you? look past the shitty art. it's a fucking good game and it's fast, and CUHRAZY, and has loads of depth. if you compare SotN, or Ecclesia, or PoR, or any actual castlevania game to S&S it just feels slow and clunky, and I'm worried that Bloodstained is going to be slow and clunky out of some misguided sense of faithfulness. the gameplay footage that I've seen looks that way too.

am I alone in this concern?

...

CoD sucks dude, when was the last time you touched it? I literally played it yesterday and couldn't stand how bland and slow it was.

t. desperate weeb
I'm done arguing with you, you're not worth the time nor energy

I haven't played any FE games but I know that every single case of "pandering" I've ever heard of has been a figment of someone's imagination and I have no reason to think this is any different.

Where did I suggest in any way that I'm a weeb?

...

Now we're suddenly talking about Western games?

since I guess anons can't be bothered to read text-only posts here's a video, ignore the first boss which he painstakingly whittles down, you're "supposed" to die to the first boss

You suck Japan's dick and say "Japan" does this and does that without regard for context or history.
Fire Emblem Awakening is fundamentally different in terms of character designs, interactions, dialogue and writing (and happens to be worse in every way from previous Fire Emblems). It is literally made to pander. You are defending this fucking atrocity and acting like the problem doesn't fucking exist when the fucking player character of Fire Emblem is an avatar, every female character can want your dick, and every almost every female character is poorly written and specifically designed to fit into whatever archetype the player would want for a waifu, with the dialogue complementing it. This doesn't even include the fucking daughter interactions either.
Characters in nu-emblem
In case you haven't realized by fucking now, this is blatant fucking pandering. Stop defending "Japan" and acting like this is fucking normal when it clearly isn't.

I'm about to.

How is Miriam pandering to weebs other than the way she looks like? You could argue she is kuudere, but so was Shanoa and although it isn't the best written character ever, it wasn't particularly to pander to weebs, and even if it is, it still conserves merit.

You're compared a game that is designed around action, Salt and Sanctuary is supposed to be Dark Souls in 2D, which is why is supposed to be a bit fast, and yet I felt it was really fucking clunky in their desperate attempt to imitate Dark Souls. Comparing metroidvanias, specifically Castlevanias on itself, to something like S&S is stupid, they are nothing alike, SOTN wasn't cuhrazy in the sightless, and that wasn't the focus of the game, rather, the focus was some platforming, exploration and collection of items, among other things.
If you want "cuhrazy", try castlevania fighter.

Around a year ago and the content of the game makes up for it, I had a lot of fun with the weapons and the familiar, with all the combinations and stuff, and Hector's movement are pretty fast, the problem is map design itself, and some enemy design, since half of them are recolors.

I am specifically regarding context and history here, and why is it that every time someone says anything even remotely positive about Japan or in any way defends them that they must be a "weeb" and "sucking Japan's" dick yet even the most ignorant, over-the-top attacks on Japan are always accepted?

Based on what?

It is normal and has been for ages.

I don't get it, though, what's with the artificial divsion? in every way except the combat – which I think is objectively superior (it has more depth, it's faster, there's a lot more variety in player actions even before you consider various builds and there's more variety in enemy actions too) – in every other way the two games are fundamentally the same. you get a 2D environment to explore, exploration unlocks new powers which improves your ability to explore. so what's with the distinction if not simple fanboyism to protect this game and other metroidvanias from the comparison?

Yeah, no pandering here at all

Based on the contents of the game

YOU ARE DEFENDING CANCER, YOU ARE SUCKING JAPAN'S DICK WHILE NEITHER PLAYING THE GAME NOR KNOWING NOTHING ABOUT THE HISTORY OF THE GAME YOU GODDAMN RETARD
God, filtered.

In terms of bloodstained, that's just my initial impression from her unusual design. Usually the more 'odd' it is the higher the risk of something like that happening
I didn't say it was without a doubt a sure thing in that case at all

There is no such thing as waifu pandering.

How do they prove that it's pandering?

My argument was right from the start that bait/pandering isn't real. It makes no difference what specific game you're talking about.

If you think Japanese culture is such cancer then feel free to stick to non-Japanese games.

Next you are going to tell me that anime aren't cartoons?

Pic related, kill yourself.

What does that have to do with anything I said?

It doesn't exist. The entire concept is nonsense.

Answer me, are anime and cartoons the same thing? What are your opinions on Dragon Maid?

...

Are you sure you're in the right thread, or indeed even the right board?

You are the Dragon Maid autist, I can tell. I'm watching you.

...

Misclicked.

Have you double checked that you are in the right place? Did you look at the address bar?

Checked

It's like saying Sonic and Mario are the same because they are both 2D platformers, faggot. S&S have good combat because that's the sole focus of the game, just like Dark Souls. I give you that dark souls have a metroidvania feel on itself since there's plenty of weapons and things to collect, but as for previous Castlevania games, the combat seems to be exactly the same. And, as I said, I found S&S clunky because of how much they wanted to be Dark Souls.

There's really nothing that indicated Miriam is waifubait unless you see her blushing a lot in-game. Her design it's just as the rest of the game focused on vitrals and, as another user said, she is basically Shanoa with short hair.

Piece of shit, you stole it.

Stop pretending like it's not you.

So did you or did you not verify that you are on the right board?

hopefull
just praying for not a

wait, are we saying sonic & mario are not the same type of game?

I'll take your word for it user. At least I ended up baiting out an autistic weeb with my concerns.

They are the same genre but they are not the same thing just because they are both 2D. Another example is comparing Guitar Hero to any other rhythm game, same genre doesn't equal to same objectives or even same gameplay, Sonic is a lot more dynamic than Mario and what you are asking is like asking for more loops, slopes and speed in Super Mario World, and if you want an even closer example, is like comparing Super Mario World with Super Mario World 2. They are completely different despite being the same genre.
Also, check The Crown Stones: Mirrah if you want another souls-like expetience™

I'm sure it will be as good as Strider (2014).
No more, No less.
I will buy it, I'll probably have fun, but then I will forget I played it in a few months.

huh, never even heard of it. looks pretty sweet, thanks for the tip user.

anyway, I don't think the games being different in some regards is a reason not to compare them; in fact, I would say that their differences are where you would compare them. I mean, if we take SMB3 and SMW1 they're VERY similar and it's basically pointless to compare them outside of minute details like specific level designs. it's more informative to look at games that are more different and engage different styles of gameplay within the same genre (e.g. SMW1 and Sonic 2) to compare and contrast their positive and negative qualities.

honestly, I'm pretty over and done with games that don't have extensive character customization, so I'm kinda meh on Bloodstained to begin with, but Miriam looks really cute and even though I am completely and utterly lacking the nostalgia gene, I do still have love for Castlevania particularly with regard to the themes and styles on display.

I'm just afraid (pretty sure, really) I'm going to find it dreadfully slow and boring after playing games with more recent and (what I consider to be) updated/superior designs, speaking in terms of the gameplay and level design. to me games like Salt & Sanctuary build on the foundation set by games like CV2, Metroid, and of course later and other titles in the same genre.

I really didn't like this game. Something about it just didn't feel good.

I was watching Tsubasa and fapping to Joji Manabe and Kuroimu Juu before your balls had even dropped yet, hang yourself

It's not a trend.

I'm older than you.

Regarding comparison, I agree with you, but what I'm saying is that S&S isn't really a good example because it have as much limits as other metroidvanias are and it fits more the souls-like experience than an actual metroidvania, specially Castlevania games. I do understand your criticism with the combat, and it's nothing new, Castlevania after SOTN have always been somewhat easy, but I don't think the solution is trying to turn it cuhrazy, because that's not the focus of the game. Take a look at CotM, which even though I think it's the worst metroidvania in the franchise, it's fairly challenging, maybe the most challenging of it's kind, and it have nothing to do with cuhrazy But how limited it is, which is why I actually hate it, you can't even control your momentum
Well, the customization is as good as previous games, basically equipment and shit. Hell, I'd say they improved the formula a little since you can actually have more abilities and ability types at the same time, and I sure hope they balance the game around that. Just look at the equipment screen, this is exactly what I was looking for.

What I like the most about the game, unlike MN9, is it's fidelity to previous titles. I'm sure that when people backed MN9 they wanted more fucking megaman instead of that dashing mechanic that was introduces. Bloodstained screams SOTN, and that's what I really liked because I haven't had nearly enough of SOTN even after all the GBA and NDS games.

You are also more autistic.

That word doesn't mean anything anymore.

...

SHILLED

Your taste isn't even close to good

Part of me wants to be excited for this (if not just have something to look forward to besides more Yakuza) but until I know for certain some furfag or e-celeb with a lot of money to spare won't shit all over it, I'll keep my expectations low.

Are you saying autism doesn't exist?
:^)

Are you saying anons are all qualified psychiatrists whose reflexive accusations of autism are based on sound medical knowledge?

kek

I'm not the one who brought it up.

Goddamn, you truly are hopeless.

You did start it, and there is no "autism."

Harmony of Despair is utter shit, save for some cool soundtracks. Stop drooling after everything you can't get.

I was the one who started it, newfag.

It doesn't matter which one of you started it, newfag.

It could have been better, but it's far from shit. Besides some balancing problems and the gameplay focus overall, is pretty much multiplayer metroidvania, and being on PC could have mean good mods.

Also, stop arguing with the autist, retards.

No, we're saying you behave and post like one and thus there is a high probability you are indeed on the spectrum.
The fact that you think Japan and its people can do no wrong is already a big sign of that

I don't, and none of you are even attempting to use the word according to its medical definition.

Where did this "fact" appear?

KEK

Yeah, great comeback. Just amazing.

you're right but goddamn is it tempting

Dragon Maid sucks

This isn't even remotely related to anything I've said.

Okay i'm sorry for behaving like a prick, honestly i've been doing it all along just so you could NIGGER NIGGER NIGGER NIGGER NIGGER NIGGER NIGGER NIGGER NIGGER NIGGERNIGGER NIGGER NIGGER NIGGER NIGGER and maybe consider that you are indeed FAGGOT FAGGOT FAGGOT

Metroidvania's are the best though. What do you play? CAWADOODY clones?

Yes, I love me some rooty tooty point n shooty.

I want to hug Miriam so hard.

bump

Are those horns?

...

Looks pretty good. I'll definitely make sure to pirate it. The main character is cute even if she's an old hag.

Hope it plays more like CotM than any of the more recent Castlevanias.

Wait, is Konami publishing Bloodstained?

He's a retard.
505 games is publishing it.

That's what I thought, as usual some people really like to jump on the bandwagon without knowing which one.

What the fuck are you trying to say?

It's a doggy dog world

It was stuck between a metroidvania type game and a proper action platformer, and I would much rather they went full into action platformer.

I know as a matter of fact that it will be more close to the recent ones and SOTN, but I hope you fucking burn instantly for ever wishing this.

Get fucked, nerd.

CotM > Every other metroidvania

Speaking of which, I was watching a video that supposedly told the whole history of Metroid… you know how it went at the beginning? once he got onto the first game itself he called it "a Metroidvania… obviously", the fuck is wrong with these people? Metroid is not a metroidvania because IS METROID ITSELF! if you want to go for a "raw" genre definition it would be action-exploration or something.

...

No thanks. CotM have personality problems, it doesn't know if it is Classicvania or Metroidvania and fail at both. The only reason it should be praised is because of the card system and even that is mediocre, and maybe the Dracula, but that's about it.
At least HoD wanted to be an straight up SOTN and it's enjoyable because of that.

I personally rather the term "Metroid-like" for any game that is like metroid because these games doesn't fucking share a single thing with Castlevania and play a lot more like metroid, whereas castlevania is the one that uses a lot of metroid gameplay like the map system and exploration mechanics. Metroidvania should be used exclusively for Castlevania games after SOTN or games similar to it, but sadly there's any.

...

It's not hard once you get used to the shitty design and the fact that Nathan moves like a cinder block, probably worse than CV1.

Precisely and you can't just call Metroid a "metroid-like" or something like that since the genre was mostly popularized by said game, on the other hand, the only way I could call a "metroidvania" game would be Bloodstained for example because it has pretty much the same Castlevania aesthetics and ambientation and the Metroid structure that Iga likes.

Yeah, no thanks.

CotM continues to be the best precisely because it was a blend between classicvania and metroidvania. It was the first of its kind and the series hadn't yet settled into the grooves. Its mechanics were beautifully flawed, and the game was all the better for it.

There is something I hate about CotM, the game can't start proper until you have all vertical movement upgrades, most early castle sections are cut off by long vertical spaces that go up, when I first did everything I could with some tricks and cards to reach higher areas there was just a lame HP/MP/Heart upgrade in a single room waiting for me, or a relic that didn't even work in most of the obstacles that were reachable at that point.

How fucking young are you?

You realize how fucking stupid is that, right?
And, as I said, it fails to accomplish both. It doesn't have nearly enough platforming to justify Nathan's sluggish movement, and in turn makes exploration a pain. There's a reason why it did so bad, and there's a reason why there's no more games like it, it's shit, it's barely polished in any of it's sides, and as so is both the worst metroidvania and a mediocre classicvania. The reason I may misspell some words is because english isn't my first language, though.

That's called artificial difficulty and shitty game design. As I said, there's not really enough item variety, if there was and it was scattered around the castle it could have been more bearable, but going on so your reward is a shitty HP up is terrible. The reason why the game don't properly start until much later is because at that point you have all the abilities you should have had from the beginning.

>>>/erp/

looks decent might try it

Artificial difficulty is just a meme, you goddamn nigger. Unless the rules of the game are very complex, any demand for skill will be met by accusations of artificial difficulty eventually. Because everyone can hit "jump", it's not naturally hard to: what matters is the timing, whose difficulty is subjective.

Its trash.

Hm?

die in a plane crash

The graphics look like ass.

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt here. I think you are in the wrong place, kid.

Thought this was a new trailer, OP you are a faggot.

Still looks and plays slow. Still can't hope for a good transition from 2D to 3D for Castlevania.

So does anyone have porn of the Leviathan boss?

No no don't do that I like seeing cthulhu being beaten by a mangy man in a wife beater with a stick.

After playing the demo I can say it's alright, just a bit slow compared to SOTN and AoS. I just want to not get completely shit on for putting in money for a kikestarter for once.

Should he be shot first?

...

I wouldn't mind trying that ritual of the night, if you know what I mean.

New gameplay clip. Areas look a bit barren.

It's MN9 all over again.

Now let's not jump to conclusions yet.

Though that isn't too special of an area, yeah.
Still miles better than MN9 was looking by this point though.

CotM is probably the weakest castlevania game i've played. It lacks what made earlier castlevania games fun linear action platformers, namely smooth controls and combat, and the exploration sucks too. As a result we have a janky, shitty entry into the series that controls like ass and also looks worse than both SC4/Bloodlines and the gba ones.
The soundtrack is also not that good.
Shit game

The areas themselves don't look too bad. I think it just need to be brought in a bit more. Make it more compact and claustrophobic so there isn't as much empty space.

The MC has me worried though. Something about her standing → moving → standing animations looked off. Wasn't as fluid as it needed to be or something. It just rubs me the wrong way.

They clearly need to add in afterimages
:^)

I would like to have a proper remake of Simon's Quest!

~Art of Rondo of Blood
~Proper Metroidvania
~Reworked Map design
~Bosses for every Dungeon

ACSQR WHEN?!!!
Another Castlevania: Simon's Quest Remake
in the meantime:
romhacking.net/hacks/868/

The 3D on 2D perspective looks really bad, and the walking animation looks really slow. Like it's not paced properly. The animation looks like she's sprinting, but is really going at a slow jog pace. Same with turn speed. It's too drawn out.
Don't know why I expected anything else.

The problem with MN9 wasn't JUST how it looked like but how different it was from, well, fucking Megaman. I can bare an spiritual successor that looks bad as long as the gameplay is as good if not better than the game it is supposed to succeed. That being said, it doesn't look so bad.

This is something I've always thought wasn't done properly in any 2.5D game ever. I mean, SOTN and similar games have the whole screen filled and just a portion o the map, like the map transition hallways or some of the hallways in the alchemy lab in SOTN. Also, one of my problems is how "depth" the backgrounds are and, in turn, that make them feel empty as fuck. There's nothing wrong with deep backgrounds, but usually you have something inbetween to make it feel, well, like it was an stupid open area and not a castle, think of how the church in SOTN had a really cool background but you mostly see the church's walls, and the few open areas, like Olrox's Quarters or the outside area of the clock tower, still had some claustrophobic feeling to it.
Yes, it's off, even her "climbing stairs" animation is a bit off, but SOTN and all other metroidvanias models in that regard were a bit off too, but here is a lot more noticeable because she is a 3D model. You'd think that that would make it easier for them to work in proper models and animations. More than not being fluid, it's more like it is too sudden.

It would be nice if she was faster and anyone who thought 2.5D is a good idea should shoot himself.
There's little to no improvement from the formula, mostly because the formula was already good, so yes, it is what people wanted, that doesn't make the criticism less valid, but mostly comparing it to MN9 as of now is pretty retarded.

They also lack motion to the backgrounds. In SotN there was almost always something moving in the backgrounds of the map

The 3D looks ugly.
Sprites superior.

say's the faggot posting Tim and Eric.
(webm related)

that tattoos are ugly

maybe this wont be total shit after all.

tl;dr that webm

the liberal SJW faggot Tim Heidecker was the reason MDE World Peace was canceled because Holla Forums hurt his fee fee's.

Didn't read a single word past that.

>>>Holla Forums

this.

saying retard meme phrases like "hyped as fuck" unironically deserves a redirect to Holla Forums instead tbh.
anyway this all sounds an awful lot like shilling.

Looking better. Backgrounds seem properly textured now. I like how gear is visible on the character model.

Ah, okay. Thanks for the input.

Holy shit, the NeoFAG rapefugee crisis is real. I'm so sorry I doubted you, Holla Forums.

Who?

kys op you massive homo faggot

It'll be shit, like Mighty Number 9, like yooka Laylee, like Shenume 3

A shit game is a shit game, I bet you think Overwatch is a good game because of the porn

Holy shit those animations are awful

this really makes my ponder wonder

Strawman.

I can't tell whether or not items change the look of the character.
Kind of liked the look of the boss but otherwise it's not that impressive.

Overwatch isn't a game though, it's an Activision product.

topkek, dragon maid autist confirmed

How many (X) autists are there? I know there's the ass autist who supposedly appears whenever Metroid is mentioned.

There was a new update showing off new gameplay and music. It definitely looks like they’re progressing well and finding their style.

There's a relatively small number of them; that's why they're recognizable by "name" of sorts.

Link?
Or is it the one mentioned a bit earlier in this thread?

hahaha, you can't have fun anymore nananana

As a Classicvania fan I'm not sure how to rate this. To me personally it looks bad but I don't really like the aesthetic of Igavania games anyway.
In general I really hate the 3D modeled 2D thing in most games.

The other user is right, though, nobody gives a shit about overwatch and just because the characters are good for porn doesn't make it a good game.

You literally can't. Everything points out toward a really shitty future in the industry and getting hyped will only make a shit game hurt more when it comes out but I can't help be hyped since it's actually shaping pretty good unlike MN9 at this point, it's also drama free

The game is not for you, fag. The game is supposed to be a metroidvania, not a classicvania, so no shit you don't like it if you don't even like the aesthetic. The 3D thing is a legitimate complain, though, and that was there from the beginning. Fucking concept art is really deceiving.

Well it's not like those two things have to be mutually exclusive. I really like Simon's Quest after all and it's a Metroidvania, or proto-Metroidvania. I think I just don't like IGA's stuff.

Devs have got to stop doing that shit. Especially now since Cuphead has set the bar high for drawn 2D games.

Nigger, did you not read what the user said? He was mocking the autist for saying that pandering and waifubaiting doesn't exist and then pointed out the popularity of Overwatch due to its waifus and the fact that its made by Blizzard and practically effectively for porn
He knows its a shit game meant for fapbait and waifubait and that's why he mocked that user to begin with

I usually don't count Simon Quest because it shares way too little things with the actual metroidvanias, simon quest is the best approach classicvanias can have to exploration and not fucking CotM. If you don't like IGa's stuff, you probably won't like this game nor most games that call themselves metroidvanias, alrhough those have more to do with metroid than castlevania.
At least the kickstarter of bloodstained put a warning to the concept art, but like a lot of time after all the pledges were done, still, the concept art is simply beautiful in comparison. And you know, it's not like I particulary want hand drawn, Arc Sys have already done 2 games that look like a perfect transition from 2D to 3D, but no dev have learned yet.

I saw a discussion about a dragon loli autist and I don't care, but that user was directly answering to this user who replied to this one and O was only pointing out that the later is right, just because Overwatch is waifu trash doesn't make the characters any less attractive, in fact, is the contrary. But I may have misunderstood something.

Man, that concept art looks 99999999999999 times better than the near-finished product. Even the minimalistic hud with the little rose looks stylish as fuck. Better color usage as well. Just way superior overall.

That's how they rope people in, by the time they show what the product actually looks like, those who parted with their shekels are already too deep in to pull out. Even with the disclaimer, the difference is pretty jarring.

Already on the fence since it looks slower than the above too

I doubt you can surpass these games at all without first going through the effort of taking the nostalgia googles off people

Fuck. This isn't Mighty No. 9-tier yet but its a pretty huge downgrade.
This looked fucking amazing, god fucking damn it.

Okay then.

Pretty much. I also understand why they choose 3D, but with cuphead there's really no excuse.

It's not like SOTN is the pinnacle, although AoS kind of is, along with the following games.
Sounds interesting, what it is?

When you do that you end up with MN9. Don't change the fucking formula if it works and it's what people want.

I swear you people are fucking stupid, Microkike funded them. Kikestarter is also a scam.

How does that invalidates the argument? Chad mortgaged his house to finish the game and whether that was worth it for him or not, the end result is praised almost everywhere. Sure, it requires a lot of money, but it simply looks better.

Regardless of anything else about the game, nostalgia games are never good. Ever.

MN9 did not change the gameplay at all, what plagued it was terrible level and enemy design and not meeting many of their promises to backers, but most of the functionality was there, If it had gotten a level editor and the option to mod it, i think people could make it shine. Shame that will never happen because of its bad reputation, and the code is probably a buggy mess too.

I mean, sure, that's also on the X serie, but it wasn't nearly as overused as it was in MN9, and MN9 plays more like Azure Striker Gunvolt than Megaman. The enemy and level design could have been bearable if it had Megaman's gameplay, but the gameplay was shit to the core, it was nothing like megaman other than having a similar aesthetic and keeping the enemy's weapons, which is more of a premise than a gameplay element really.
Sure, you can say everything in the game is shit, but it could have been a shitty megaman game, just another clone, but trying so hard to be it's own thing it shoot itself in the foot.

Nostalgia is not a bad word user.

I'm not going to bother arguing that you're retarded for having an inkling interest in Kikestarter garbage.

Sure thing, and I'll be here enjoying a Hat in Time.

Kill yourself.

AC2R WHEN?!!!
castlevania-ii-simon-quest-revamped.en.uptodown.com/windows

that concept art is ugly as fuck.

I'm not saying it is. But there isn't a single example of a game that tries to capture the spirit of its predecessor that's good enough to stand on its own. They always end up being little more than pale imitations of the original.

Reminds me of what Naramura said about the development of La-Mulana.

Except you didn't make an argument, retard. So I don't owe you an argument.

wew lad. You'd probably watch Tracer get fisted by her "girlfriend."

Wasn't that the same argument normalfags had with might no 9? How good was that forgettable music?
Wasn't that argument used with Might no 9 when capcom was at a all time for hatred?
Wasn't Inafune at the helm of Might no 9? Or is it different this time because Igarashi is the real deal? How's Goddess, i heard the man behind black and white 1&2 along with populas stopped leading the helm on it for other projects.

Granted, its entirely possible that the devs are aware of this kind of pitfall and are working around it. I want it to succeed as much as anybody both as a Castlevania successor and an insult to Konami, but "HYPE AS FUCK!!!!11!" I am not. If this isn't ass when it comes out then it will have beaten the odds.

=KEK==
Back to 4AM lad, maybe they'll empathize with your low-T ass masturbating to kanna figurines

WEW, THE TRYHARD IS REAL
Do I look like a yuricuck to you?
Don't answer that, actually.

My god, you might be worse than a yuricuck; you talk exactly like a fucking redditor.

Are you the pathetic cuck who gets triggered whenever someone calls him a tryhard?

Jesus Christ, you shitpost like one too.

Fucking wew, fresh off the boat from NeoFAG I see.

...

Christ this is the most shameless shill I've seen recently

If a thread starts off with words like, "hype" or talks about how a game is good, it is a shill thread 96% of the time in my experience.

You had me then you lost me, fuck off retard.

That's concept art.

Shovel Knight. Freedom Planet. Sonic Mania. Tropical Freeze. Megaman 9. Double Dragon Neon.

bump

looks like a bad castlevania remake

oh wait it`s a bad castlevania ripoff
