What are you talking about? The new auth servers are incompatible with older servers, so unless you disable auth no one can connect. (Unless something has changed in the past couple years.)
What's the point of playing a version completely devoid of content and features? It's nostalgic but holy fuck was it bad. The only way to harness potential from the autism simulator is to load it with mods, and like it or not, in that respect the new one is better than the old one.
Or just host minetest so no one gets pissed. I've yet to see someone make a server with good mods that fix the many shitty aspects of it like lack of mobs, maybe they don't exist.
