Capcom is one of the weirdest developers/publishers out there. There is no consistency whatsoever, one minute they release a godawful steaming pile of shit, the next minute they release a game so good it restores my faith in gaming. I have no fucking clue at all if a Capcom game is going to be good or not.

That's about where I'm at. I kind of love the fun agility stuff, but I wouldn't want it for the entire series. At the same time, they did several games in a row up through Monster Hunter 3U with almost identical mechanics, so I'm not sure how else the series could evolve without being casual-ized like World seems to be so far.

I'm still of the vague hope that the added mobility options and ease-of-use will be balanced out by monsters hitting much harder or having more health and that they haven't shown it yet for fear of scaring off the journalists and newcomers, but fortunately I have to wait for the PC version so we'll find out from the PS4 users first.

Bayonetta got a sequel, plus a PC port well after the original release, plus the character got in Smash. W101 was on a console that barely sold, anyway. Sales Struggle
Minami says the biggest challenge running Platinum is finding new work for the team.

Asked to rate Platinum's progress over the past five years, he gives the developers at the studio an A. "The team has been working really hard," he says. "They've held up their end of the bargain and done a really good job of putting out really high-quality games."

On the business side, he's less enthusiastic. "Whether we've sold as well as we would have liked, or whether the company has the amount of money that everybody would love to have in the company, I think I'd probably rate it as a C or even a D.

"We obviously grew up being part of the domestic Japanese market — a lot of our staff spent time in domestic Japanese publishers, focused really on the domestic Japanese market. And now we're trying to expand and focus more outward and think about gamers worldwide. But when you think about what global success really means, that means we need to be selling more titles. Our games need to sell more copies."

As of the end of 2012, Bayonetta was Platinum's best seller, moving over a million units. But Minami says that's not good enough. "Bayonetta didn't sell what we wanted it to sell," he says. "We were hoping it was going to do a little bit better than that, though you can't put it all on the game itself. I think there were a lot of issues with when it came out, the kind of marketing behind it."

Minami step down and quit Platinum
PlatinumGames president Tatsuya Minami stepped down from his role leading the developer late last month, according to a report from GamesBusiness.JP. He has been replaced by Kenichi Sato, who was the executive director.

The news comes as the company celebrates its 10th anniversary and just a day before the global release of PlatinumGames' and Nintendo's Star Fox Zero, which has received mixed reviews. PlatinumGames confirmed that Minami is no longer with the company.

Realistically, what could the average person have done with it? If he was one of us, he likely would have found a way to anonymously release it into the wild, but that's painting a major target on your back. Source ports for the Doom and Quake series were "an outrageous amount of work", and they were all done reasonably quickly and efficiently once the source was released. A 2D-only engine for one of the most beloved games in its genre shouldn't be too bad.

I want Itsuno to make Devil May Cry and Dragon's Dogma, but I think he's also in charge of Power Stone. Giving DMC to Platinum however, is just asking for shitloads of QTE garbage.
