I'm actually really awful at this so i'm surprised that i won that many times, you at least could actually do 623 and 421 motions, and you had pretty good combos that din't rely on muscle memory. I say just keep practicing, you'll likely beat me in a landslide next time we play.

GG to you too. My usual opponents are a few guys I know and 1 is around my skill level, but the others are worse so getting BTFO'd a couple times is a pretty welcome change, it helps me get motivated to win. As far as combos go, I've never been good at learning the crazy long ones, but it wouldn't hurt me to check some of the basic ones. I just go off of what intuitively feels right for the most part.

I've been playing Touhou on-and-off for about two months now but I still can't 1cc EoSD on normal.

They got some pretty good basic combos listed that you can pull off with each character for quick damage. Also, consider practicing grazing. You were running into my fireballs way too many times to count, it's specially useful against characters like yuyuko, okuu or patchy.

And it's even worse because they'll get away with it like they do with the danganronpa; all the secondaries will buy the games regardless of bad localization and NISAdrones will defend it. Definitely PCB, in addition to the border bonus giving you a free hit, the patterns feel a lot easier to adapt to. Though that might just be because I've played it a lot.

Remilia, those were some poor matches, up until i had to go melee-only to make it somewhat even, then it was actually a bit more fun due to the implied challenge. If you want a few tips:

Holy shit, that was difficult. I don't know really what else to say other than you're pretty good. I guess I should also thank you for not showing any mercy to me as that would feel insulting.

GGs, hope you learned something from these matches. It may look difficult to do, but doing all this stuff doesn't take much - put in effort and you can get good too!

Oh, something else of note - by releasing backwards while guarding, holding a direction and double-tapping dash, you can dash out of block at instant speed. It breaks one of your orbs and helps IMMENSELY when you're stuck in a corner, but it since it reduces your max stamina it gimps you until you restore it, which happens at the rate of about half a minute per orb. It also requires practice to pull off consistently, but doing this is absolutely vital when you're stuck and the alternative is taking a nasty combo to your health bar. Please practice this if you can!

this is what you get for playing a bad character, man. Either you make it work like the yoshi's/suwakos/anakarises/mays or you play a better character.
That's just the way it is.

You have 3a's to punish, alt236 to catch and continue combos and your 6a is great for comboing/catching people off-guard. On top of that, your C's can be spammed with jump/dash cancels, while your B can be used to juggle your enemy off the 3a. You're slow as fuck but if you can catch your enemy you can do a lot of damage.

That said, Komachi is really, really fucking slow. Your ghosts can alleviate the problem somewhat, even if they don't cover a lot of area they're sorta necessary, since if you have long-lasting bullets in front of you, opponent can't dash into melee range and attack since he'll get hit, in theory - the problem is setting them up, you need time to do so, plus it's situational so you won't negate damage that way 100% every time. You get time by knocking the enemy down.

Use your B's a lot more, while C's do knockback, bounce off of walls and hit harder, faster and pierce other bullets to boot, if your B's hit your opponent is gonna be in so much blockstun you can just wail on them. Also, please learn how to chain melee (A's) into light bullets (B's) into heavy bullets (C's) into specials (236/214/22/etc) - if you combine this with the knowledge on how to highjump out of bullet moves (B's and C's) you can win with mindgames a lot more.

From what i've played, he mostly uses it on two occasions. When he's done a dial-a combo or when he's feinting a long-recovery melee attack like his 6a or 66c. Just be mindful of his current hand of cards.

Sometimes it works when opponent's attack gets telegraphed way too much, too, though that's a risk.

How do you decide on which 2hu you should main for soku. I can't main most of the characters that I actually like because their playstyles are awful or just feel very bland.
If I can't find anything then I will just drop the game.

A list of characters that I like who aren't particularly fun to play: Remillia, Suika, Margatroid, Suwako, Tenshi, I'm not a particular fan of Reisen but I really like how they did her animations in this game (even if she isn't wearing her jacket).

There's generally aggressive and defensive characters. Aggressive characters are fast, their moves are faster, their bullet moves exist to chain combos and/or to zone opponents into their range and their job is generally to push face and kill their opponent before they get killed.

Defensive characters on the other hand have lots of tools to keep enemy at bay, such as bullets with wider range, specials that spam bullets (so opponent is forced to dodge if he doesn't want to block), knock down on hit, inflict good damage but are range-wise limited etc etc. In short, they're there for the long haul and their toolkit generally reflects that, but the game's problem is this - the attacker has advantage over the defender because of how long blockstun is compared to other fighans. This means that on the higher levels of play, getting forced to block is really, really bad. Not to mention that a good deal of those characters are slow compared to aggressive ones and you need speed sometimes to push a melee attack so you don't get dead.

Then there's the method by which characters are generally supposed to win that's reflected in their skillset. Sometimes it's supposed to be outranging with melee (Komachi, Iku), bullets (Patchy, Yukari, Yuyuko), baiting (Alice), pushing face with tricks (Remilia, Marisa), just pushing face until it works (Youmu, Meiling), et cetera, et cetera. You can check the wiki and find out what's good for you - it's at hisouten.koumakan.jp

also this, don't expect too much, though the game is really fun to play once you get good

Meiling/Sakuya are good aggressive characters and Reimu/Yukari are good defensive ones. You can also try Sanae, her skillset is tricky but fun.

I hear Tenshi is supposed to be good, how acquitted are you with the mechanics? You might have more fun with some of them if you have a better grip of everything.

Stick to one character at first. You'll have to account for yours and your opponent's ranges when doing footsies, not to mention doing proper combos/blockstrings will take practice.

I'm not as good as the other guy but you could at least learn a combo or two from the wiki, also grazing is important against a character with heavy use of projectiles, meanwhile air melee really puts a wrench on suwako's shenanigans.

I have a somewhat basic idea of the mechanics of this game, I used to play Suika but I guess I will learn how to play Reisen. I don't see any point in trying to learn the others because I don't find them fun.

It seems you either keep crashing or getting DCed, it's really jarring considering you're really good at comboing with sakuya but you need to learn to graze a bit more and to use your C attacks, specially 6c more often as they have higher priority then most other projectiles.

thanks for the pointers, I'll keep that in mind for next time. the comboing probably comes from all my practice with confirms in other fightans, but I definately do need to learn graze timings better and unfuck my understanding of projectiles.

I'm actually really terrible at fightan games, the only reason i'm good at patchy is because she can spam high-damaging projectiles, and because of intense bullying sessions with . It's just a matter of reading the wiki and finding counters to other character's tools. By the way you did a good job once you actually got me in a corner with all that melee pressure, since most of patchy's defense is preventing the enemy from even getting her in a corner, and once she's in there you can just continue endless pressure because her melee is just too slow to retaliate.

Game lagged for a bit at first. it was fine for most of the Meiling matches.
My real problem is that I'm a raging autist who doesn't like to block and I have no one of comparable skill level to play against.

You shouldn't block very often in this game, if you overblock you lose. Just make sure to block on wakeup, then try to do enough footsies to land a first hit, melee or ranged. There's plenty of first-time players in this thread, forward port 10800 and host a game here yourself next time.
