Muslim societies don't exist in a vacuum. There is no such thing as a transcendental, ahistorical "Islam".
If Islamic beliefs are what they are today, that's because of the material conditions that shape those very beliefs. If you are born to a rigidly patriarchal family in a rural village dominated by traditional religious figures where access to basic education is not a given, it goes without saying that you're very likely to develop retarded social views.
The only way to undo that is by pushing secularization (urbanization, education, state neutrality, women's right, etc) so that Islam goes through the same process Christianity did — a transition that would probably be over already had Western imperialism not bombed the Middle East back into the Stone Age to begin with.
It's only a matter of time, really. A significant portion of European-born Muslim youth are already pretty secularized and I see no reason for that trend reversing — unless the ruling class keeps enacting dumb populist policies specifically designed to piss off the Muzzies.
