I don't agree with this. I think you're conflating political ideals with cultural traditions, in my ideal you must conform to both, not just the former. I don't trust individuals, especially the poor, to handle money on their own, as such we shouldn't give it to them directly, have the state identify issues that would benefit these poor folk, aid them to better themselves, don't provide for them.

I don't think the jobs I described are bullshit, I do think they are important for society, they reinforce comradery and traditions. More importantly I don't think it's fair to assume what these jobs are, it's hard to talk about them hypothetically since it's very particular to the state of the nation at the time and what their issues and/or goals are. An example of an "issue" in the US right now is this hurricane business, the state should incentivize those inside the nation to help the others in the nation, to help rebuild itself. An example of a "goal" would probably be something like the autobahn in Germany, a project meant to help the nation and it must be built, by someone.

But often enough, basic services or infrastructure are not profitable to provide at a local level, especially in rural or poor areas, and that's where the market would do an atrocious job compared to the state unless the state pumps in so much money that the taxpayer is still effectively paying for it. Or, in a situation where a company (for example, an ISP…) holds an effective monopoly they are more likely to gouge the price for poor service than the state is. There's also a far smaller chance that the state goes bankrupt and suddenly stops providing services compared to private companies.

multiplayer and mods are behind a login wall, which is pretty much their only anti-piracy measure, there's no DRM. you can still direct connect pirate clients and host your own server, you can disable verification on the server hosting software.
