Morrowind. I installed the 1.7gb graphics/gameplay overhaul compilation thing. I've never played it before and so far I'm actually genuinely enjoying it. It's so much better then Oblivion or [ESPECIALLY] Skyrim. The eldritch monsters and incredibly unique architecture using cool natural resources is such an awesome experience. Even the dated graphics are kind of a boon, considering the fucking nasty old textured abominations are even more scary when they don't look like the polished bad guys in newer vidya.

Speaking as someone who's been in multiple LDRs, this means nothing. They very rarely ever work out and even if you're in the limelight of your relationship, shit will end up changing. I'm really enjoying it. I think the reason why is because it feels a lot like playing DnD in a certain way. Everything is skill-based, more so then the future games, and you really have to grind out combat skills on fucking rats and mudcrabs to have any chance in higher level zones. I've had the game set on medium difficulty and I remember being stuck in a dwemer dungeon, with no arrows, after starting with like 500+ and constantly kiting shit just desperately clinging to life because I need 4 scrap metal for the fucking thieves guild. The architecture and general art direction are 100% the reason I keep playing and dealing with some of the more annoying bullshit like the ancient UI.

Only game I got what I expected when I got hyped about playing it was when I finally caved and got a copy of Chrono Trigger. Still my fav JRPG.

I felt the cast they chose for PN1 ended up having a surprising amount of mileage despite coming from different places. I didn't get that from PN2. As for Morrowind, I find the gameplay honestly one of my bigger hurdles. I just get bored too quickly to get full on immersed. Honestly felt the same with ES in general in the gameplay department despite all the interesting lore. Its one of the few cases where the story just can't carry it for me.

Main time prior that hyping myself for a game paid off was Wild Arms 3. Now that was a damn fantastic game that quickly became a favorite of mine.

Friend picked up a cheap complete DS copy for my birthday one year. I still gave it. The game hold up well, and the DS version was a damn fine port, and a good option for those not wanting to drop $80+ on an SNES copy, or deal with the loading issues of the PS1 port. On a related note, more SNES games ought to have been held off for until the DS for a port, as opposed to all those GBA ports with color and audio issues.

This is what I'm using. It's a compilation mod, download it w/ the torrent and it has very simple easy to understand steps. The graphics mod stuff usually comes w/ screenshots to help show you what you are changing. It's the simplest, easiest way to completely overhaul this game and turn it into something extremely functional and playable.

I played the first two before they became awful indie pixel JRPG trash. They're a ton of fun, really well done, and I loved the art style so much.

I enjoy grindan games. Morrowind's awesome design is almost all I need to enjoy the crazy grind. I like seeing my character get stronger quite a bit. Avatar strength is normally a bad thing to most gamers but I enjoy the end-game where I'm so strong I'm 1 shotting everything and not giving a fuck because I remember the journey that took me to that point.

Again, I think it's mainly just how well it (well, the ported content anyhow; the new stuff's a bit iffy and shows a change in philosophy over the fourteen year difference) still holds up. For once, a tagline like "timeless adventure" is very, very apt. The loot crates are actually entirely cosmetic. You get them as a reward for playing well and I honestly don't mind the system at all. And what's wrong with a battle royale system, user? It's entirely skill based with a small amount of luck. You drop into a random spot on the map every game, look for loot, and you try your best to stay alive by shooting the bad men and being very clever and tactical. A lot of people complain about the RNG factors but learning how to minimize them is a large portion of getting consistent wins.

It's not a "Generic" battle royale, it's the ultimate one. Player Unknown is the guy that made all the custom maps for games like ARMA and Day-Z to turn them into cool battle royales. He's finally got his own independent project not relying on others and he's done a fantastic job with it. The other games in the genre are all shitty copy-cats or clones based off of what he made popular back when Day-Z the mod was getting big. H1Z1 being a big piece of shit copy cat, especially.
