I'm having more fun playing around with the inventory and weapon effects, and seeing how much I can horde than the actual missions
for instance if you hit an enemy chopper with an antitank round it explodes and falls to the ground burning
if you hit it with a lighter antipersonnel round it's merely disabled, and the silly AI occupants will bail out and get killed from fall damage
so you get a bounty of gear neatly laid out on the ground at the crash site
was on sale on Steam for $13.59, well worth the monies for me

To me that sounds like a 50/50 split and people like the new versions better because they're tastes have changed to reflect it, or like I pointed out the reason they adjust all the sound levels is because music today is mainly listened to over headphones and earbuds on portable players, hence why the new audio balanced versions sound better on headlphones and earbuds

And I'll repeat myself again, if the majority market is mainly using headphones and earbuds why would you want to master audio levels for big box speaker setups nobody uses today?
