Deus Ex

Two words: New York City

Did GMDX go full Revision with the new environment and level design, or is it all good?

Never played Revision but there are a few changes here and there. Overall 8/10 mod

I liked the gameplay changes in earlier version (except making baton stronger and prod weaker, even though baton worked on everything except against cyborgs). I'm just skeptical about unoptional changing graphics and level design in what should be an straight "upgrade" mod.

I'm about halfway through v9 of gmdx, very satisfied with most changes. Maybe one day I'll man up and play it hc.

That's actually 2 words and it's pronounced Shabat Shalom

Haven't played the original much the last few years but I haven't noticed very many changes to the maps that stick out much, idk

That's three words

I don't recall anything changed as far as areas you HAVE to go through. For instance there is a storage locker added in Hell's Kitchen, some random alley and a balcony leading to an apartment with extra goodies. Area 51 has some extra hangar outside with extra goodies. I'm not sure if Hong Kong has anything new since just about everytime I do a playthrough I find something new there anyways.
There are a few graphics aside from the mod using HDTP. Like the MJ12 elite(?) that is just another trooper with the UNATCO face mask and a cybernetic voice.

It's overbloated at times and in others it feels like they haven't changed a thing. The HD textures look terrible on the old models. Just play vanilla with some gameplay mods.

...

...

Level design is kept intact.

I think this vid is funnier if you only listen to the first part

DEHUMANIZE YOURSELF AND FACE TO GOOD TIMES

I played Deus Ex for a little bit a while back and really liked it, I'm about to install it and give it a play through. Are there any must have mods to get for it? Also, what should I put my stat points into?

Also, I'm thinking about installs HR while I'm at it. I own the regular edition. Should I just play that or pirate the augmented edition?

Are you out of your mind?

he is completely right, hd texture packs are horrendous. Maybe the only good one is that RE4 one.

always gets me pumped to play

...

I wish there was a webm of talking to that super computer near the endish of the game. I think it has more to do with the social aspects

This faggot posted the exact same video in Holla Forums and made a thread saying he's a half jew with a nigger girlfriend trying to demoralize anons in the most autistic way

...

wew

lets just ignore and talk about cool deus ex stuff

Like how fire extinguishers are weapon of the year?

This one?

How the hell did any of this make it to the final product? Man, I can't imagine this shit being in vidja these days.

It was during good old days when vidya kids still could be killed.

hell ya thanks

Eh, there are some changes. I've been playing through the game on the latest release of GMDX. Lots of little things are different, like the gas grenade being removed from the first supply crate on Liberty island, which doesn't really matter as the improved AI makes it impossible to skip Liberty Island with the grenade exploit. The karkian room by Paul's body during the UNATCO escape sequence was changed (released karkians no longer attack enemies, they make a bee-line up the stairs for you instead). My big complaint is that all of the keypad codes that couldn't be found in the game normally have been changed. Codes for things like the stash behind Smuggler's bed can't be opened without using multi-tools, as the old codes everyone memorized are different. I don't know why you would change this unless you were butthurt that people could use cheat code websites to find the hidden codes and save a few multitools. Seems like a weird thing to be concerned about in an old single player game. So far there's only been a few disappointing things here or there, but they're piling up and I'm not even to Hong Kong yet. At least the new environment details are nice.

...

Deus Ex is terrible, I don't get why people like it. It's hideous even for the time, the gameplay is utterly horrific and boring.

/thread

Its about roleplaying and old shooters. Mostly roleplaying because if you can't live the life you won't care

I can't even get engaged enough to roleplay in the game, it's just too terrible in every imaginable way.

It's the only game with an anti-capitalist and anti-government rhetoric that doesn't feel shoehorned. I like it.

Now this is some shit taste.

TODAY I WILL REMIND THEM

Fair enough, I still can't get myself to like it though. I've tried playing it a bunch of times but gave up every time because I was just bored to death.

Overrated post

new york is just one word dumbass

DX came out in 2000 and it already didn't have WTC.
How's that for woke.

...

Did you make it past the first level? It's known for being the worst in the game and for putting people off.

The whole thing with it being the bad game is only dependent on peoples patients. You have to have at least the amount of patients as the character in the game.

Also I think some people don't get the writing. Sometimes JC says some pretty awesome stuff and it flys over peoples heads because he is so monotone but that is what makes it great.

No, it's not. It's open, has a lot to explore, gives you lots of options on how to deal with things.
People who claim Liberty Island is bad are retarded.

you just have to ask yourself what is it that makes others like this game.
It's like how the left needs think, what is it that I'm missing while others find something to actually like in Trump. AND so much so(they really like what they find).

maybe people just don't understand what the game is trying to get them to do. So its peoples stumbling grounds

Just put everything into swimming every other skill isn't needed.

That talk with Maggie Chow is eery. I wish it wasn't the truth, but it is looking like it more and more each passing day.

Fuck I'm tired

We all are.

There is nothing wrong with capitalism though.

Just that there is no ethical consumption under capitalism.

You also forgot the slow erosion of culture that then transforms into a culture that is solely based on consumerism.

Do you have a single fact to back that up?

...

We need a strong and powerful nationalist government that is spearheaded by an equally strong and powerful leader that unites the people under a common racial and national banner.

We need a mixed economy that both embraces free enterprise but also protects the end consumer from unfair business practices, monopolies, pollution, toxic products, etc.

We need to remove the Jews, nationalize the banks, and create a new currency backed solely by the productivity of the nation.

Finally, we need social reform that protects the workers of the nation by ensuring them a fair wage, safe and clean working conditions, and guaranteed paid vacation time.

As a side note, if the economy is utterly fucked because of years of inflation and over-regulation, provide the workers with social welfare to get them on their feet and get the economy rolling again.

Seems awfully militant and extreme. I hate the current system as much as you do, but I find it hard to classify a single-leader or totally powerful government as "good". Even providing a best-case scenario with a charismatic and strong leader, trustworthy and transparent government, free market, social reforms and intelligent, individualist citizens. Things would be unbelievably great for a while, but how long is that leader going to last? When he dies, who will take the reins? If it's a family member, there's no guarantee that they'll be entirely worthy as a successor. An election? That's an even worse idea. Putting absolute power in the hands of one can be a gamble for this exact reason. You could have a great man whose name goes down in history, or a greedy bastard who drives it into the ground. LOTGH has a lot to say about this.

Deus Ex raises the idea of AI assuming the role of "God" in a society and functioning not only as a deity, but as a perfect and ambitionless leader to serve mankind forever. The other edge to this sword is that the pervasive "Big Brother" computer is always watching indiscriminately, which can easily make you uncomfortable. This is also ridiculously hard to keep accountable: What if this "God" is discretely hijacked and reprogrammed? What if it gains ambitions of its own? What if man decides he's fit to rule himself again?

There will never be a perfect system of governance so long as humans themselves exist because we ourselves are imperfect, and to try and make humans perfect would effectively remove us of our humanity. The most we can hope for is one that works and one that works well, and for me I believe that system to be Fascism. It's better to live one day a lion than a hundred years a sheep.

There will always be revolts, crime, poverty, hunger, disease, and famine. The best we can do, and it's what humanity has done for thousands of years, is to pick up the pieces and move forward.

Shameful, if you don't have both at max by the end how do you plan on accessing Page's porn stash?

I think I'm finally starting to realize how transient and fleeting these systems have been since the dawn of mankind, and it's hard not to be demoralized by it in some ways.

I've personally concluded that hard facts by themselves point to nihilism, and this is no exception. "Why should I bother pushing for nationalism when the end of this is inevitable?" is a question that may be asked, and I think that we should strive for longevity.

But who's to say that we can only live one day as a lion? I truly believe that [for better or worse] our future will involve the use of technological and scientific advances to increase lifespan, of individuals and governments, in ways older societies couldn't. A discussion on this may be interesting, but may be difficult because it's so abstract. Right now we're just throwing rhetoric around because the world's not quite there yet.

Anyway I still have direct questions about what's supposed to happen under the "ideal" fascist society. Even assuming the founding leader is perfect, who comes next?

I could've sworn I was on Holla Forums

DUDE
CONSPIRACIES
LMAO

...

...

...

I still need to beat this game. This might be one of the only games that has dialogue good enough to carry the game.

dude a bomb lmao

nah don't fool yourself, the writing in deus ex is as clumsy as the rest of the game. The only entertainment factor in the game is seeing how you can find different ways to complete things. The later half of the game is a lot worse for this.

You would have thought that if anyone would be receptive to Deus Ex's message it would be someone using Stallman's work.

There's some pretty bad lines throughout the game but there's enough well written conversations that it's worth playing the game just to listen to some of the characters' philosophies.

there's maybe like 8 or so that are kind of interesting but I'll be honest it's like babies first philosophy/political thought

is this a real thing?

no.

Now im just dissapointed.

welcome to deus ex.

Reminder that Ocean Lab kills the game.

Bump

Sticks and stones.

It's very atmospheric at least. The missile launch level is the worst of them all though.
