Etrian Odyssey

I'm replaying Etrian Odyssey in anticipation for V that's supposed to be coming out this year.

I know some of you have probably played 5 already, how is it? Better than 4?

4 is a low bar compared to the series overall. Not horrible or anything, just a noticeably easier than its predecessors. And lacking that sweet FM soundtrack. I haven't played 5 though.

IV was supposed to have a FM soundtrack but didn't in the end. At the very least it's not a travesty unlike EO2U.

i though the whole deal of the series is that it got better with each game.

It's weaker than the other games but I still enjoyed it all the same.

Has some comfy music too.

I haven't even touched the Untold games.

Any good subclasses for the princess in EO3?

Untold 1 with classic mode is good. Story mode is unsurprisingly bad.

Definitely monk.

...

It should be the other way around. Monk class ability makes healing with the Princess much better.

For just the NDS titles sure, but IV is definitely lthe low water mark in my opinion.

1 is worse than 4. 1's claim to fame is the wonkiest skill interactions and an incredibly easy game. 1U is the only one of the remakes I'd say is worth playing just because of how buggy and sketchy vanilla 1 is.

Can someone recommend me a good doctor? I actually like the arranged tracks more than the FM ones even though I know that I shouldn't. I think it might be a terminal case of bad taste does anyone know if a treatment for this exists?.

IV would be great if its difficulty was on par with the other games, subclasses and unlockable classes came earlier and you had like one extra class from the start. And a fifth area with a real fifth stratum. I like a lot of the things it does aside from that, especially class design and its approach to force skills. Some other things like enemy rows should just have been in the series from the start.

I don't know why they don't add them in. Even NISA does dual audio. If I don't like the voices I'll just mute them like before.

This is fucking great. Too bad he's useless in boss fights.

But why?

I like battle cries. That's all I care about. Like in those Experience games like Demon Gaze.

(sugoi)
(nice)

Seiyuu are an important part of every single game. Hearing the sweet siren call of top-tier talent can elevate an otherwise mediocre game to godly status. Not only that, but by eliminating them they are serving you an objectively inferior product, as the American voice acting scene is a joke.

I will not eat shit with a smile on my face, no siree. Seiyuu or no buy.

You mean constant fucking talking that detracts from the game is a good thing now?

ETRIAN ODYSSEY THREE BEST GAME

EVERUTJREAD

you are worst than storyfags.

You lose nothing by not having voice acting in these games. You gain something by having them if you like them and you can mute them if you don't. If it's like the other games this won't affect the text speed. And EO isn't like larger games where having voice acting ruins the amount of dialogue devs put in their game because they have a fetish to voice everything.

This really seems like a non-issue.

It diverts budget and makes the game take longer to bring over to the west. VA is shit. Fuck off seiyuufag.

oh no it's constant fucking yelling into the mic. It's fucking baffling how anyone could look at the amount of yelling they do and think "oh this is a good idea"

I wish there were a better way of playin etrian odyssey on the PC. Emulating it works fine, except that drawing the map with a mouse is a pain.

get a drawing tablet
some really cheap huion or wacom bamboo :^)

You will never convince them. Having seiyuu in the game is only a net-positive for the franchise as a whole, (alongside other godly new developments like color selection), and yet they'll autistically shit all over it because they are larping niggerfaggots crying about muh headcanon rp.

VA in EO is fucking bullshit.

They could have added voice acting because the series was starting to sell better (besides Untold 2 for obvious reasons) so they can still have enough funds for everything else. In both Untold games, they have not sacrifices anything for the sake of voice acting. As for voice acting making the game take longer to come out, EOU1 came in a faster amount of time than the previous games. It took 4 months for EOU1 to come over. 5 for EO3 to come over. EO4 took 7 months. EOU2 however took a while to get over here. EO5 taking more than a year to come over thanks to them only focusing on Persona 5. Therefore the voice acting doesn't really have much to do with how long it takes for them to localize these game. It has more to do with what projects they're doing along with EO.

So why is this such a problem again?

I usually mute the voices if they are annoying.

Dungeon crawlers with customizeable parties
DO NOT FUCKING NEED VOICE ACTING EVER

You're face is bullshit, faggot.

I dont know who the fuck those are and i dont want nip screams in my ear all game. That money could go to putting in more levels and music rather than fucking VA. Fuck seiyuu, it brings cancer into shit that doesnt need it.

Oh its you again

Fuck off

Well you're in luck then, because the shitty western version won't have them. Instead, you'll get dogshit western pigspeak. You'll feel right at home, I'm sure.

Im turning them the fuck off. You know what, im glad there isnt any dual audio just to spite you seiyuufags who shit up good games with that cancer.

If only you could turn off your shit tastes too. It's a shame that we'll continue to get butchered and inferior games due to garbage such as yourself, but I guess it can't be helped. Thankfully cooler heads will prevail, and there'll be an undub shortly after release to pirate.

VA doesn't add anything to EO tbh fam. If you want your seiyuus then play Persona or something.

Your waifu a shit. Your favorite seiyuu a shit. Jap voice actors a shit.

Just because they are willing to put money into voice acting doesn't mean they would throw that money at making more content like stratums. They would most likely put that money towards a different project since they know how much it would take to make the usual 5 stratums and side content. Also they're on a timed schedule meaning that additional money could only hire more manpower at most. But that doesn't mean better or more content as numbers don't replace talent. And how do you know most people will turn it off? A few of us here were talking about wanting the JP audio and not the dub. If the dub is fine then I'll keep it on. If not, then I'll mute it. You can completely avoid the feature and you're acting like it's forced. Again, it's a non issue.

I know. And the inclusion of VA doesn't ruin the experience in any way. Your whole argument is now "I don't like it" and not any logical reason that actually ruins the experience for you. Especially when you can turn it off.

I don't know what you're even trying to argue about at this point.

It makes them put more time and effort into the VA if this sells well. I dont want more VA in my dungeon crawlers.

There's nothing to argue about. I've made the exact same arguments that you're in the process of making in previous threads, to what is almost certainly the same audience, and received much the same response. It makes no difference how you approach it. They'll just shitcan it and keep crying about MUH EXPERIENCE and other dumb shit to reject it outright.

At this point all that's left to do is trigger them and sit smugly as all future titles will have these additions and there is nothing they can do about it. Seiyuu in EO5, EO6, EOU3, and in all future titles. Forever.

Stay mad, silencefags.

But you don't have to play with voice acting. Who's holding the gun to your head telling you that you have to? If you have no legitimate argument about something, then maybe you should reanalyze your stance on why you hold so strongly to it.

I would rather not shitpost EO threads. Holla Forums is already getting bad enough to the point that I can only have a good discussion in the Vita and VN threads. And maybe the fighting thread if it's not a circle jerk on shitting on SFV. I, and barely anyone there, plays that game yet they won't stop talking about it.

I hate it mainly because this faggot
Shits up every fucking EO thread with his seiyuu shit. Fuck seiyuu and fuck voice acting.

I disagree. Not only is this not true shitposting, which I would consider as posts with absolutely zero content to them, but these threads are always dead as fuck regardless. Any sort of activity is better than none, in my books. Also might want to get a perspective of the bigger picture. We're at a mere 40 replies. Don't worry about lessening quality when this thread will persist through this momentary shitflinging.

Unless the anti-seiyuu fags keeps whining and crying. Can't let that shit stand. I'll go the distance to crush their spirits by reminding him that we're all getting an objectively inferior product due to shit opinions.

You sound like a "not true socialism" person

Lmao.

I don't think the game needs voicework, so there's no reason to try and staple it on anyway. The ideological foundation of Etrian is larping about your party and any change away from that will muddle the appeal.

Never underestimate the hardcore weebs and their waifu voices tbh.

Which subclass is better for Runemaster?

Imperial or Bushi?

Bushi

If Atlus hadn't tried to get the generic JRPG audience with the Untolds, these fucking regards in love with shitty voice acting wouldn't be here in the first place now. The point of the series was that it was going to be a trip back to when you didn't have shitty voice acting destroying your imagination, as they specifically said before they went and sold out with Untold. And just call them voice actors you pathetic weeaboo; they're just Japanese voice actors. I sure don't see you using any other country's own specific term for voice acting.

Bushi also gets TP regen through breath. Not much use during boss battles but it lets you restore TP to full during random battles.

Don't forget it also is budget spent not developing the game. in addition to it being insufferable because it's tied to EVERY SINGLE RANDOM ENCOUNTER

My favorite and first game was EO3. Me liking JP voice acting doesn't change this.

And that still has classic mode. The worst thing that Untold brought is the DLC they introduced in EOU1. They had AR readers in EO4 but all that stuff was very minor and didn't ruin the gameplay. Then EOU2 came out and went full kikemode with the DLC. Thankfully it sold terribly.

Seiyuu is faster to type than voice actor and shows people mean the JP voices and not the english ones. Also why are you calling people weeaboos here when you're playing the dungeon crawler known for having the ability to make a full loli team drawn by a guy who's well known for making loli doujins? You can't throw down the weeb card while eating the same content.

See
No money going into voice acting doesn't mean more budget for the game's development. They most likely considered adding it in now that the series is more well known and to draw in more people. This is only a problem if they simplify the game's difficulty for a larger audience (like having simple mode in Untold games).
I'm not going to excuse a bad excuse for battle cries but you can always mute it for the original experience. I don't get why you guys are so against this as if it ruins the way you guys play when it doesn't. If they removed the voice volume option, then it would be a problem.

I think this is one of those cases where it's reversed. Rune is a good sub for Imperial.

Alright, then Bushi it is. The first time I played I subclassed my Rune as Bushi, but then I saw people saying Imperial was better. Couldn't decide whether I wanted to try it or not.

Can't wait. I still have yet to play the Mystery Dungeon games though. Anyone here tried them? And if so, are you excited for the next game?

I made a lossless rip of the soundtrack for the first game when I bought the CD. Here's the magnet. It's 1.3GBs. Around 32 songs I believe.

Is there any news on EOU3? Should i wait for them to make it or should i just pick up a copy of DS EO3?

Untold 3 probably won't be as fucked as 2 if they've learned their lesson, but there's still a good chance that it will be worse than the original. I'd pick up a DS copy, especially since we have no idea how long until EOU3 releases or even if it's in development yet.

Considering EO2U sold like shit I'm not sure there will be a EO3U. PQ2 is being worked on and the 3DS is on it's last legs.

Yeah, probably for the best. 3 was always my favorite.

I hadn't thought of that. What will happen to EO after it's discontinued? They could make games for Switch, but without a touchscreen we wouldn't be able to draw maps.

The switch screen isn't a touch one?

I always thought a Wii U Etrian Odyssey game would work perfectly, but that didn't come out well. How similar is the Switch to the Wii U? Would a EO game on Switch work or no?

Pc maybe?

I had no problem emulating EO3 on a flashcart. I don't know what good ones they have these days but mine ran it perfectly. That might be cheaper than getting a physical copy.

I think they know why EOU2 didn't sell well but I don't think that will stop them from making another. Especially after all that money they got from P5 to burn. And it really does suck that we're probably seeing the death of handhelds. Sony might not make a new handheld and Nintendo is sticking to their hybrid for now. Sony, if they're smart, should make a new handheld when the Vita dries to dominate the handheld market since that separate from the phone and console market. Games that require more complex controls than what's possible on a touchscreen interface while being a little more powerful and optimized for one platform.

A PC EO would be pretty cool. I think they could easily work on PC assuming you can draw a map and fight at the same time like you can in every other game.

Vita, maybe? It's got the touch screen, so map drawing would function nearly identical to the DS. You'd have to implement a function between swapping views between what you see and the map though, or something like that, and that would suck. Then again, at the point in time of the 3DS dying, the Vita as well would also be pretty dead.

Let's just hope Nintendo unveils a new DS of some sort.

I dont have a flashcart so im jusf gonna get a physical cart.
