so im not completely sure, it seems there was a perfect happy end. No one died. Also no explanation whatsoever regarding who ultimecia is and her motives except one really superficial one mentioned in brief that she wants that everyone except her doesn't exist or something. Does the story just suck so much? or am i retarded and didn't understand it. Or do I just not understand the appeal of the story. I already know most people on Holla Forums think it's shit, but I need to know if it's for the same reason I think it's shit

I'm a subscriber to that theory,
okay, interesting.
Right before I forget: I wanted to add I didn't understand that "in space" scene as well, as far as I could tell rinoa should have died before squall arrived but somehow magically didn't; I must have missed something there. Was it her sorceress' powers or squall using ellone's powers giving… air to her helmet? Someone please help a retard out I didn't understand that scene
I havent played the game in years, could you link me the scene and maybe I can explain it?
Neat
here again
Like I said, I haven't played the game in years. I just remembered reading that theory a long time ago.
youtu.be
I couldn't understand how she somehow was able to just press a button and be able to breathe again. What happened?
Game is shit. Story is shit.
Can't really explain that one user. Squall brought an extra oxygen tank maybe.
or rinoa was simply too retarded to know there's an extra life support dose button so squall used ellone's power to telepathically remind her to use that.. fuck if I know. Another commenter had the same question so I can't be the only one who found that scene odd. Also the missile base destruction/2nd party taking shelter in a tank, then driving to Fisherman's horizon to… attack squall's party was fucking weird. Maybe they were passengers and the original galbadian crew was still inside and unwittingly transported them to fisherman's horizon?. Also no in-game explanation as far as I could tell
They couldn't control the tank, it was automated, Selphie says so after the fight.
VIII's story is completely bonkers, don't care about it. If they went with the Rinoa=Ultimecia plot withuot the retarded orphanage that would have been cool.
I played as a kid in high school and everything made perfect sense to me.
Except Squall's shit taste in girls that is.
As for plot, well you aren't playing as evil witch, you're playing as a school army guy that should stop her from wiping out the world.
It never bothered me that her motives or origins were never explained, since in the end she wanted to kill me and my buddies, so it's natural for me to go out and fuck her shit up, is it not?
I dunno what happened since then, and why every game needs villain to be thoroughly explained, understood and to have larger screen time than your entire party combined.
I think it's stupid.
Best villains are those who want to fuck shit up and it's your job to stop them.
I just went to the FF wiki
Best explanation you'll get I suppose.
Never understood why he would turn down a hot teacher who is pretty much giving him an open invitation into her panties to chase after some typical muh feelings 7/10 at best bitch who doesn't give two fucks about him for like 99% of the game (and even the 1% is debatable).
But the whole reason she is destined to be defeated is because Squall was sent back in time due to her time compression and told Edea to create SeeD.
Maybe she didn't realize that time compression would lead to her downfall? Time travel is a tricky thing.
I guess it's pretty much impossible to make a story about time travel without any plot holes. Like how the time loop starts for example.
closer to 5/10. The bitch is crazy. The only reason Squall went for her is because of the dance, if Ellone hadn't got in trouble its likely Quistis would've been whipping Squalls ass raw all night long. Quistis 10/10 best waifu. Squalls a fucking idiot.
Squall fell in love because the bitch literally cast a spell on him. It's not done with a heavy hand, it's actually quite subtle, but once you re-play the game knowing Rinoa's got crazy magic and you see her cast a "cute" love spell on Squall at the dance and suddenly he's hot for an unstable uggo instead of the hot teacher, it all makes sense.
Quistis is the best part of that shit game. Yuffie a close second.
The ending pissed me off. By the end Seifer's basically been promoted to commander-in-chief of North Korea, and never got the ultimate shitkicking he deserved after getting a school nuked, actively going out and trying to genocide another, summoning the apocalypse on an entire continent and being an obnoxious smug faggot about it the entire time.
yeah that also seemed so ridiculous, no one even fucking cares that this nigger is potentially responsible for world ruin and everyone just treats him like an imperfect buddy
actually now that I think about this the end-credits scene proves this because it focuses on the point where she did cast the spell and the very last scene is her getting what she wanted.
The Prophet module series for NWN is the only "time-travel" story with no plot holes.
...
The ending really bugs me. Because even when you kill Ulitmecia in the future, her future still happens. She'll still be born and grow up to take over the world and slaughter most of humanity. How is that a happy ending?
With a few modifications, this would have been an interesting twist. If they changed how time travel works and revealed Ultimecia as a Rinoa from an alternate future where Squall died to protect her, that could have turned into a better story than what we got.
Ultimecia is a sorceress from the future who probably got raped hard by the anti-sorceress culture of her time so she wants to just fuck everybody's shit up.
I don't think it's shit, I think they just ran out of funds to make half of the 3rd arc so the game came out like every writer in the room was taking LSD.
He didn't like her for a long time after the dance though. Only after she kept pestering him.
this seems the most reasonable explanation
Also the only reason she even talked to him is because she couldn't find Seifer at the time and she's a needy bitch.
This.
The problem with this is that it's been done before since time immemorial so having something different to spice things up is always a welcome.
It's not "different" if it's the same shit for 20 years.
To the point when players start to sympathies with villains more than with protagonists.
To me, that's a blip but I could see how a short lived human would think that's long enough. In any case, I'm sure there's no shortage of generic BIG BAD EVIL DUDES in vidya.
Final Fantasy 8 is a testament that women ruin everything, and should not be part of anything of important
FF3 > FF9 > FF5 > FF6 >>>>>>>>>>>> everything else > FF7
I want to stick my ass in Rinoa's dick if you know what I'm sayin'
Also, used goods and on the rebound. Then again, Squall is a retard.
gnow wut u sain'
FF3 for the nes is pretty underrated in my books. It is really fucking crazy for its time, starts you with jobs right away and the end game optional grind is awesome. Plus they fixed all the stats and gameplay.
I personally love FF8 for nostolgia reason, I play 8 and 6 every year along with 3. I am indifferent to the rest of the entries. 5 gets to much praise for its own fucking good.
Has any anons played 10 or 12? Only two left that I have considered playing, but the HA HA HA HA and voice acting has turned me off. I heard 12 is just a single player MMO.
You already forgot about murdering NORG?
Why do you care about stories in video games. It has to be fun, nothing more.
yes
X was a pretty good game for me. I loved the tropical setting and the music. The game was round based and it gave my super slow brain enough time to think about what I want to do next. Grinding for ultimate weapons and items was also fun. I played the main story for 30 hours and got to the final boss without problems or frustrating boss fights. Then I grinded for another 80 hours for ultimate armors and weapons and stats. It was really fun. Yes the voice acting is hated by many people but you will survive it.
XII was pretty shitty IMO and I find it very sad because I loved the voice acting and balthier generally. It is like you said a single player MMO and the problem with it is that bossfights become super hard once you are 20 hours into the game. One good thing is the gambit system which enables you to program every character how you want him to act. Money and teleportation stones are super rare and the game basically makes it mandatory for you to spend time on involuntary farming to go ahead in the main story. I remember 2 particulary hard bosses: one dinosaur and a plant monster. I gave up after not beeing able to kill a boss.
This is actually my greatest issue with rpgs in general. I had similar frustrations with VIII before I understood how the junction system works. Then I abused the shit out of it and had tons of fun with it. You should never have mandatory grinding in any RPG to proceed with the main story. I just want to come ASAP to the final dungeon where the final boss waits. Then I want to do side quests and grinding freely.
There's an undub for 10
I'm half-sure those are actually the same boss. It's a dinosaur/dragon that's covered head to toe in moss and shit. The biggest issue when fighting it is that it uses a limit break-esque skill every so often that inflicts a ton of status effects, in addition to dealing a ton of damage.
If you don't mind doing a hell run through one of the adjacent endgame zones, it's possible to skip that boss entirely. All you have to do is hold the button(s?) that let you run past enemies there without trying to fight them.
I killed this boss after my 5th or 6th try.
The black dinosaur is where I got stuck last time.
In the cave where I have to follow the sister/friend of Fran
wait no, I even killed that one.
I was stuck in the throne room against Vinuskar and his henchmen. However, you see the pattern. Every time a new boss comes I get stuck and assraped. After the 3rd time I just gave up.
sorry it was not vinuskar, it is mateus. Vinuskar was super easy.
Well he was a very forgettable and pointless character. I don't think he died anyway, he turned into a cocoon or something. He's probably a random Moomba now.
So the only person that dies in FF8 is probably Odin, then.
Yeah, boss fights in that game could be pretty difficult.
Mateus, off the top of my head, used mostly ice magic. I can't recall if you could have ice-resistant/immune gear at that point, though.
You probably can in the Zodiac Age/IZJS version of the game. It does a lot of weird shit with the gear, like rebalancing katanas so you can have Samurais in your party at the start of the game without being horribly gimped.
QUESTION
Considering two SeeD schools had a civil war, wouldn't the rest of the world want SeeD dissolved? Doubly so since you find out SeeD is just good goys fighting for the likes of Norg and his kind. I figured SeeD would go the way of NATO and eventually dissolve after completing it's mission or become so big other nations would see it as a threat.
