Reminder that if you aren't playing your old games in a CRT, you are playing them wrong you filthy casual.

Holla Forums should have a free crt giveaway tbh

Also this is like the best videogame ever

talk about playing games wrong

cotton boomerang is better, play that to see the true potential of the grab mechanic realized by combining it with the punch

I have like 14 rgb monitors and I'll sell 'em for cheap bois

Oh shit, I'll take 2 off your hands!

I have a feeling that it's always the same autist making these threads

here take a sip fam

Our resident CRTfag is still infinitely less obnoxious than the PS2fag that used to shit up every single emulation thread for months on end.

I use crt-geom-deluxe shader and it's just the same

its all about that phosphor glow man

I don't know how to feel about this.

not pictured:
homura, suiseiseki, tomoko (preorder exclusive mini nendo)

I also collect paintings, but that's a different story.

Fuck you, play them however you want. Don't let some random beta faggot on the internet dictate your life or how you enjoy your videogames, play them on a black and white TV using RF for all I care, just enjoy your games.

...

So, there's people that play old games on new TVs.
But are there people that play new games on old CRTs or monitors?

There was a guy here earlier that had a Wii U hooked up to an HD CRT

It looks bretty gud

So I have a good CRT sitting in my closet with two composite inputs. Is it worth getting one of these USB power HDMI to composite converters to play some PC emulation to the CRT, I still have some original hardware, I was just curious if any anons have tried this.

...

don't people have vga out instead

...

S-Video looks a better on TVs if you're using pc, and some converters mangle the signal

I'd personally recommend looking into getting a PC CRT monitor, and use scanline shaders, that's what I do and it works pretty well. Unless you're a really big fan of how Composite looks of course, then it'd be worth it I suppose.

I just have all the stuff ready for it and found the converter in a bargain bin for like five bucks, so I am just waiting for the cord to come in. Was just curious if any anons have tried it. I can always post about it later. I just know emulation gets no slack from hardware purist but I do know CRT is better in general for lower latency, well with old games. I will be testing it all out over the week.

...

yeah, i do PC CRT + Interlace output on Retroarch, mostly because i can't get anything with RGB input on this shitty country. But it looks pretty good actually

Recently picked up a KV-32FS100 at an estate sale for $20. got a new stand for it and I am in the middle of moving things so I can get the TV in the room. Not sure what systems I am going to hook up to it yet.

I feel like I dodged a bullet there. I guess the 1000 line BVMs are just impossible to get now.

Well thanks for your completely meaningless opinion.

I'd rather kill myself than touch a CRT ever again. No, I'm serious.

I waiting for that autist to start screeching about that girl's mouth.

True enough.

Anyone have one of those cheap $20 chink component to HDMI converters? How do they hold up?

The only original hardware I own are 6th gen consoles. I don't need shitty, noisy old TVs that burn your eyes and are heavy as shit to feels special about myself while playing easily emulable old games that run better on emulators anyways.

poor soul, no appreciation for the classic technology and the wonders it can do

Emulation is classic technology as well.

yeah, and I think it's novel, but when the real thing exists and you understand the way its used the rough estimations in a lot of emulation feel more jpeg and less png if you get what I mean

Emulation can render the game better than the original hardware.

That sanctuary city crackdown better happen soon.

it can use tricks and estimation to pull this off, consoles were all highly cycle based for a long time and failure to emulate on this level guarantees loss of information.

Plus it's not like there's any extra detail blowing up a game that is designed for 240p, 480i to fit a 1080p display. Not to mention how it butchers 2D assets in 3D games creating a garish image where the 3D will be nice and clean but the 2D will be a stark reminder that it was never meant to look like that. Worse yet when it's the HUD which it is 99% of the time.

You just think it's better. The shortcomings in framerate are a small price to pay for accuracy and the best game play experience.

check craigslists for trinitrons, or that facebook market place, apps like letgo, etc. try other common slang like "tube tv" "box/big box tv" "old tv", but generally if it's consumer stuff you wanna get a JVC or Sony TV.

Kill yourself faggor, enjoy your jaggies and low framerate

enjoy your input lag and inaccuracies, crt hides the aliases pretty well too! Definitely the way the games are meant to be played.

You can go to any triftstore and find crt's for like 5-20$

Keep tellig yourself that hipster faggot lmao

I'm so glad I don't live near shitskins. Lifted trucks with brand new catalytic converters have nothing to fear in my town. Nobody steals spools of copper wire to feed their drug habits. One day I left my garage door open all day by accident, and none of my expensive tools were gone when I noticed at night. I can't imagine having to worry about a pack of subhumans scurrying up to my curbside trash in the middle of the night and cutting apart my garbage right there on my front lawn.

Give it 10 years

A given console console can render a graphics at X resolution. An emulator can render the graphics at whatever resolution it wants to. Not scaling, RENDERING.

Subjective

Some faggots tie game elements to framerate. This is how you get "you die twice as fast if the game runs at 60 fps" kind of bullshit.

DK64 does this

I wouldn't reccomend fucking with the console. could cause a fire.

I don't know where you live, but keep that shit secret. I would love to not have to deal with scrap recycling mexicans going through my garbage.

Scaling is the right term you autist, and enjoy "rendering" those 2d assets to be a blocky disgusting mess

Scaling is not the same as rendering

Yeah, fuck that pixelated diarrhea! Doesn't the right look so much better? The added visual noise turns it into timeless, tasteful, TRUE art. :')

It is a notable improvement, but nintendo games never looked good

You aren't playing your old games right until they're smeared in Vaseline, kiddos.

ITT: 570755 tries to bait gullible idiots.

...

Have you no appreciation of TRUE ART, fool!

The one on the left looks way better

You're right, how could I ever ignore what true art looks like?!

Enjoy your thick glasses, CRT faggots.

I thought this was a crt thread, not a butthurt brigade thread

have a bump and some AG

The only threads that aren't butthurt brigade threads here are Dwarf Fortress threads and porn dumps.

That said, real CRT is great, but I don't have space for one of those monstrosities in my place. Shaders are the only way for me to get anything of the sort. Some games look fine with nearest-neighbor and no filter/shader, but other games, like Donkey Kong Country, look like hot ass without a CRT or CRT shader.

get a nice desktop 13" rgb monitor like a panasonic or jvc one.

Which version of Okami is this? That game has an LCD mode yes?

wtf i love radiation now

It's the PS2 original

banana tier baby

seriously look how cool and snug this thing is, it's great desktop material and has s-video. RGB isn't a necessity as great as it is, s-video about 80% as good as RGB.

Remove all the smoke detectors in your house then, and all that edgy Bismuth while you're at it. And I guess you don't need all those potassium rich bananas

You should. Radiation is the only reason you're alive.

That thing is probably crawling with bugs inside?

Bananas and smoke detectors can be thrown in the trash. CRT monitors need special disposal because they're toxic waste

only the inside of the tube which contains a protective film that brings that radiation down to banana tier as per an FCC regulation from the 50s iirc.

why would it be?

Boy, you're exposed to radiation every day of your life.
Have you ever walked outside on a sunny day? Then you've been exposed to radiation! You also get vitamin D, so radiation is helpful.

I bet you buy all your shitty music on vinyl.

English please

I love the look of CRT and I want to die for giving away multipleheavy ass sets in the early days of flat screens.

What ya gonna do, nerd?

I suppose that it doesn't look good on pictures?

its very hard to capture a CRT due to the way the phosphors get scanned, many cameras have issues resolving this.

...

It's clearly a troll pic doofus

>doesn't look good on pictures
proper English please

I'll tell you people the tale of one of the many times my tard relatives fucked me over
>they threatened to steal the fund my grandma made for me if I didn't in the end they stole it anyway
This whole thing also made me known as a bad host in my family, which I don't mind because it means I have to deal with less of their shit but I don't understand what the fuck convinced them of that.

you should kill them tbh

...

sook my 🐓

The only people who bitch about "CRT meme" are people who aren't able to have a CRT

It must be sad using inferior hardware.

Anyone can have a CRT, people literally throw them away because they are heavy turds that give you eye cancer.

Keep whining.

so why do people get butthurt about CRT threads, its not like someone is forcing you to reply, smh underage fags, pls go

no, crt is the ultimate meme. no one ever used them, its just something invented by retro autists to justify their bad decisions

i think one time long ago someone made an argument in an emulation thread about how crt looks best and ever since these people are still bothered by it.

Enjoy your thick glasses and ringing eardrums

I hope nobody actually got mad at such a throwaway statement, I mean, where do you think you are?

yeah, but that bait of all things? I think people just wanted to get mad and shit up a thread at that point. It's some weak justification you're peddling there.

...

the only reason you're attempting to use it as justification is because you've been shitting in the thread since 2am. are you really saying it's justifiable to shit up a thread you don't agree with the subject of because someone used incredibly mild bait? Really?

hook line and whatever

You've misread criticism as surprise. You're still here, by the way.

this isn't something awful, post counts don't matter silly.

If anyone can have them, why don't you have one?

Now this is autism

It's the age old tale of "Fox and Grapes". I wouldn't be surprised if they only spent their early childhood with a CRT and only remember using shitty LCDs.

I like crt fam, I do a lot of work preserving the things.

totally no differences here

looks the same to me 🤔

Do you have a single fact to back that up?
Thought so.

Truly, people without CRTs are missing out.

Probably because he's not a hipster faggot who wants to waste his time playing on a shitty looking screen and he did what everyone else did like 10 or so years ago and threw his obsolete CRT into the alley behind his house for the trash man to come pick up because they're literal, honest to God, garbage.

I bet most of you fuckers don't know what crt stands for without googling it.

It's cathode ray tube you fag

That's a 10.

your point? nobody cares

My Ikegami TM15-70R should be arriving tomorrow. It was never used even, it's gonna be a beauty!

How many pizza rolls can you reheat with that baby?

Don't put eggs inside or they'll explode

You bought one of those cringeworthy "gaming" chairs with the bright red and green colors and the little pillow behind the head didn't you?

...

Nope, and I didn't buy one of those for the exact same reason that I don't use a CRT, that reason being that I'm not a giant fucking retard.

CRT is more advanced

No it's more primitive

clean your fucking room lcd nigger

Can't, I'm too busy enjoying all my 8-bit games in amazing high resolution detail on my LCD screen.

I've seen it before. I'm an exterminator in NJ, I go into some of the worst dirtholes in Newark, Irvington, and Jersey City. People are hooking up PS4s to old CRTs, and not like good ones or anything.

Unrelated: My job is great for buyfags looking for old games. People literally giving them away. Related: I have gotten a couple Trinitrons on the cheap also.

The nigger I use to buy my weed from played modern games on an old ass CRT TV. It looked so terrible, but it went really well with all the roaches and the god awful smell he had in his house 24/7 from all the fried food he made and the weasels he had running around with their scent glands intact. Really completed the whole "I'm a filthy nigger who sells drugs" motif he had going on.

weed really does make you dumb

What exactly is there to understand? You're playing video games on an outdated and shitty looking screen. It's like using an antique stereoscope instead of a Occulus. It's hipster tier nonsense.

Sure is underage faggot in this thread.

In my 30's, but nice try, kiddo.

I will get two junior chickens, small coke and a medium fries. Thanks.

Jokes on youme, I'm NEET master race.

Lucky faggot.

Yo Ikegami user, that you? Cheers, mate. Hope shit's going better for you.

Yes. Yes, there is, user.

I used a CRT through most of my childhood which I spent glued to the screen playing Empire Earth and Populous, eventually I had to use glasses because of it and as soon as LCD screens popped up I dropped those motherfuckers like an atom bomb.

hope you're enjoying your new monitor

a mid range/high end computer crt from 2004 still has better color depth then any LCD screen 99.9% of you on here are using. unless your willing to shell out megabucks for something ultra high end. LCD'S still fail to produce colors correctly.

That's a myth, user. You needed glasses because you didn't spend enough time looking at distant objects, or your family genetics fucked you. Kids are being raised on tablets held mere inches from their faces. That is gonna be hell.

It's been a hell of a lot of fun figuring out what all the functions do. Figured out that APT is some sort of sharpness control that has made S-Video sharper than ever. It'll hold me over nicely while I figure out how to solve my RGB interfacing problems. I'm thinking of building system-specific breakout boxes in order to bypass the SCART Jewishness. Might even sell them if I can get prices down low enough. Throw a fucking wrench into their shit for sure. No way a SCART to BNC break out should cost thirty fucking burgerbux.

Oh no, my gaming experience is ruined.

You're not missing much. Lowest resolution most S-Video outputs on PCs can do is a very muddy 480i. Hardly ideal for anything, it was usually only included as an interface for a projector.

buy an extron crosspoint (8x8 rgbhv in/out), rgb bnc (not scart) cables for your consoles, and some 3 foot BNC cables. extron crosspoints are insanely cheap professional gear. You can even buy phoenix connectors for the audio switching

when people say don't fall for the scart meme this is what they mean, if you are using a pro monitor its just extra baggage to direct bnc cabling for those pro monitors.

Also IF some user can explain a 3d image well looks more 3d on a computer crt screen. while a LCD screen always to my eyes looks flatter? anyone know why this is? raised on crts versus lcds? LCD crappy refresh rate to blame? Fapping to much? optical illusion? CIA nanobots in my brain affecting my visual perception of reality?

That is the current plan, build little project boxes to separate the signals with BNC and RCA outputs, then run it to an Extron.

lol

I can understand this effect as well, user. I think it is a bit of a brain trick, but I also think it might be a product of just the way the screen is rendered, and the color/contrast depth that LCDs just can't manage.

convergence/phosphor glow. convergence is where the r/g/b guns align and very tiny misalignment combined (this is how 3D glasses work) with common curved displays will create a popping out feel. Geometry in CRTs is also almost never uniform, there are literally only 4 or 5 monitor series (bvmd20,24,32,a20,24) in the world that ever had perfect geometry. There's a lot of factors that result in that image having more pop to it. Imperfect geometry also helps with the illusion of the image not being flat.

that's why pretty much. CRT images have a fucking ton of attributes to it unlike LCD/LED panels which are indeed very flat in the foundation of their design. The actual science behind crt has a ton of things going on to build the image from firing an electron beam to ignite a phosphor against a grill separated into the 3 color channels into many tiny holes across the front of the inside of the tube.

Do I have to be this autistic to use a CRT?

no but its fun to understand how complicated they are if you spend your time maintaining and repairing them so you can identify issues

I don't know, faggot, do you also call your car mechanic autistic?

Yes

No because cars are actually useful.

you need to be this autistic if you want to do anything right ever on any field, unless your knowledge of things is always on a surface level at most, at which point you would be nothing but a complete casual in everything

Did you make them replace it?
Did you call the fucking cops?

Pick one.

Did I hit a nerve?

Kill yourself, faggot. Enjoy buying half the game on disc and having to download 50GB patches to make it playable.

wrong

So, can your screen actually show a pure Red, despite having a blue LED backlight? No? Exactly.

...

Seeing as mine is an OLED and as such doesn't have any backlight whatsoever, yes. The blacks it shows are just the diodes not producing any light at all, and with no backlight at all. It's literally the blackest black possible. Even Wesley Snipes can't compete with the black an OLED puts out.

This. Give me big beautiful pixels on a gorgeous large screen over a Vaseline-smeared image on a crummy, tiny CRT.

it's not the blackest black possible. CRT is better for it, the vaccuum of the tube prevents the penetration of light resulting in perfect blacks. OLEDs also have awful lifespans.

AMOLED > CRT

Your obsession with blacks must make your mother very proud.

5 year life time < 20 year lifetime, also still better color reproduction on CRT.

little story, my mom's a master photographer and got me into video games when I was a child with doom (I have the photo to prove it!) and helped me calibrate some of my monitors when I first got into this stuff last year. She also has a LaCie Electron Blue II somewhere I'm taking. One of the holy grail CRTs right there.

Citation needed

take it from the people making the best flat panels in the entire world.
dolby.com/us/en/professional/cinema/products/prm-4220.html

Monitor provides unprecedented black levels, precise color accuracy at all luminance levels,
and extended dynamic range. The modulated LCD, in concert with a dynamically modulated
LED backlight unit, forms the dual modulation process that is directly responsible for the
exceptional image quality

it's a $60,000 flat panel. I can get a BVM-D24 for nearly the same color reproduction for 1000 at this second.

And it'll be nowhere near as big.

depends if that space it'll occupy is worth the $59,000 you're saving.

Why not go one step further? Why the fuck aren't you shitposting on a 486 and signed up for dial up? You want to be authentic, right goy?

as big of a waste of money

how to tell someone really doesn't get it

Enjoy your crummy babby-size screen, dweeb.

No I don't, and I'm confused and frustrated.

Reminds me of when that TAS thread was flooded with retards who think TAS is cheating. When did Holla Forums get so flooded with these retards? Is nowhere safe?

CRT nerds should just go to /vr/ tbh

this thread has more posters and posts than /vr/ has had in 3 years

How's that 4K content look on your CRT?

...

You guys sound like audiophiles

You must be over 18 to post here.

...

the old games look gorgeous on a crt

current things looks better to. Movies/shows/images look better and for further kicks If i downgrade the color Capacity it looks like the LCD colorwise. I got them side by side. there is a noticeable difference. Its not minor gains It looks better by a good margin.

LCD still have horrendous motion blur to this day. Someone needs to make a slow motion recording of sonic emulated on a PC LCD and then slo-mo on a CRT to explain this to incompetents.

old 2D games that is

...

That looks horrific. It really does.

It doesn't look good on pictures!

I have a question guys. I don't know what path to take.
First is if I should buy a CRT pc monitor (16:9 decent res & 120+hz) for emulating nes-genesis games.
Or the second path - buy one of those CRT TV's on the cheap and just hook that up to my consoles, genesis etc.
I would prefer a crt that hooks up to PC to test out PC games.

What are some cheap, high quality CRT models for both situations to look for? Also which choice would you prefer? I would rather emulate so I can play more games at less cost.

What's even the fucking point?

That's just nostalgia speaking

Do you have eye problems user? It's like I said, you sound like audiophile autists that NEED that marginal improvement that no one really needs/cares about. Sure, the improvement is there, but it's hardly worth the effort just to play some old games.

Is what makes everyone so smug when talking to CRTfags

I honestly can't tell the genuine CRTfags from the bait.

I'm tired of motion blur on an LED, even with motion blur reduction technology. Leave me alone. I also want the depth like back.

Now that's just shit taste.

You're probably better off with a PC monitor so you can use higher refresh rates and don't end up with cancerous flickering.

>implying people don't actually do that for the __fun__
I seriously don't understand why these people get so assblasted about this. Even when everyone ignores them or just gives them facts instead of more shitflinging they just keep going and going.

Show me a game worth a fuck that requires more than 640x480i

Agreed, I would prefer a PC monitor. Any particular versions, lists, for reference?

When people see smug faggots they mock them. Same reason people shit DSP.

Any PC game released after 1997

Sony Trinitrons are usually excellent, as are Viewsonic P series CRTs. Don't buy anything without inspecting it in person, however, and give the CRT at least a couple minutes to fully warm up if it hasn't been used in a while. CRTs aren't usually super temperature sensitive, but colors and sharpness can be a little off until the tube has warmed up.

Which is why I have a CRT PC Monitor as well, but the point is there is nothing that makes MemeK resolution worth using. The computer hardware required to render it is ludicrously expensive, and only shit tier modern games even try to justify it visually, but those all suck.

Nevermind 4K TVs are almost always SmartTVs, meaning (((They))) can monitor what you're watching on it and it can phone home if you watch pirated content.

what game is that from?

Really? Modern games are shit because your shitty CRT displays can't show them at their best? Kinda sad that you lot are so stubborn to admit your precious TVs have their faults as well.

So these are the great arguments with facts 2d0e14 was talking about.

Actually, to be fair, there is a very slight motion blur on CRT, most visible on moving high intensity whites on black backgrounds, however it is rarely full blown ghosting like LCDs are prone to, and you're rarely going to notice it anywhere except very hard contrast areas moving very quickly.

wizardry on the famicom

keep an eye out for Sony, NEC, Viewsonic, iiyama, mitsubishi (diamondtron especially) PC CRTs. 4:3 is ideal, 5:4 is novel but may not provide ideal results, and 16:9 PC CRTs are very uncommon, you're more likely to find 16:10 some of which are holy grail monitors like the GDM-FW900.

there are some decent 4k panels that are out there which use high end consumer tier panels from samsung without the smart bullshit. Level 1 Tech's did a few reviews on some recently, but I can't really justify a 4K flat panel yet. If anything when I upgrade from these 16:10 monitors I have I'll be going to a 10-bit high refresh rate display and using my Sony CPD-G220R 1600x1200 monitor as a secondary. Those 4K displays are fairly affordable too.

CRT is not a replacement for your flat panels, it just still does certain things better than those flat panels, and one of the greatest advantages is retro gaming. That said, a 16:9 FP is awesome in portrait mode, and it does of course offer more size options. They both do certain things better, but flat panel shortcomings are very notable compared to CRT which essentially comes down to the tech being abandoned for 10 years therefore hasn't been competing for 10 years.

which is why most PC CRTs target 75hz as the intended horizontal refresh rate, and often supported higher refresh rates at lower resolution too.

What the fuck is this supposed to prove? Are you twats stuck in the same year your crap TVs were manufactured?

This is the most normalfag hipster bullshit I have ever, ever seen on imageboards in over a decade.
Christ almighty. Shilling on plebbit was a mistake. Whose idea was that again?

light bleed is a persistent problem on flat panel displays. Here's some early-mid 2010 flat panels if it makes you happy.

The issue shows the same on 75Hz and higher, it's the fact that the black dots aren't being "written" over when the electron beam sweeps, meaning the phosphor's white-to-black time leaves a faint streak. Best thing to test is Super Metroid's door transitions.

...

B-BUT MUH NOSTALGIA GOGGLES
I FUKKEN LOEV THE 80s xDDDD

See, I knew it would make you happy

good point, this is also exacerbated with aged phosphors as they take longer to "cool." I'm really looking forward to running my TM15-70R to see how it deals with the same issue.

It's not like people use them for their only monitor. I'm typing on an LCD now with a CRT as a second monitor for vidya.
How old are you? People were using CRTs for several more years and you don't absolutely need a resolution you can't find on a CRT until the 2010's.

You really are underage.

Fucking hipsters and their CRTs

It doesn't really bother me much, as it rarely if ever interferes with the image.

it does bother me and knowing its causing the color balance to be distorted is really unappealing. I grew up with someone who was obsessed with color balance and clarity and It's rubbed off on me. It's even more visible the larger the panel, seeing how the blacks are blue is grating.

user I wasn't talking about LCDs

Friendly reminder that the crt/retro collecting meme is pushed by the jews in order to inflate the value of old trash

You're referring to the wrong issue, user. I'm talking about the phosphor cooldown.

Scalpers are a myth

Yes goy, the invisible hand of the free market will correct the economy :^)

having two conversations on opposite ends of arguments is a bit confusing to keep track of without persistent tracking of IDs

I'm one of those """""""""""scalpers""""""""" and literally buy high and sell low to anons from 8ch to spread the glory of crt

Scalpers do exist, but pretyt much exclusively for Sony PVMs because that's what My Life In Gaming advertised all over their series. Thankfully Ikegamis can still be gotten for cheapish. Shipping is still a whore.

there's tons of brands that aren't Sony's too. Ikegami, JVC, Panasonic, Barco, Pelco, Bosch, Hentarex, Mitsubishi, NEC, etc. All worth keeping an eye out for. If you want a PVM for good prices, hunt in the real world, that's where you'll get results. I'm planning on doing some hunts in time too.

The tough part is actually making it to public asset auctions, and having to dispose of an entire pallet of shitty consumer TVs you bought just to get the couple PVMs in the lot.

Scalpers exist more for retro cartridges, give it another 5-10 years. The same shit will start to happen with crt, it already has. Shit becomes rarer prices go up.

That's the hard part, just don't confuse consumer TVs for presentation monitors. Similar size, whole different world of capability. If you're near or live in a city you likely have a number of hotspots to check out from hospitals to TV studios, video production houses, etc. There's some real options out there and finding pro monitors isn't the hardest thing to do. Just takes some effort and a bit of traveling.

Even worse because my state's dumps all charge exorbitant fees to dispose of CRTs, which is total horse shit, and leads to most people discretely dumping them on the side of the road in the middle of the night. Good job, libtards.

how do you take a picture of a crt that look actually good. using a crappy cell phone, no bully please

First image looks alright. Are you running composite video?

You need something running at the same refresh rate and probably bright back lighting behind and around the screen

S-video modded genesis. Look really clean IRL.

Good man. That's the best you can get for most consumer stuff, and it's really no slouch, especially if you can get good cables and connect direct to the monitor. I find switches to let noise into the signal, or some sort of crosstalk.

Light in front of your screen is bad, as it will reflect off the grille and glare out the screen. Perhaps some dim light behind?

Yeah, S-video blew me away the first time I set it up. I grew up on RF and later on composite and I can say the difference is quite amazing. The only consoles I have that is in need of s-video is the dreamcast (witch I ordered a cable) and pc-engine interface unit (witch look like a fun mod to do)

I'm going to shill for this gen Z kid, he actually talks about CRT's and old hardware. Just saw his video. Lot's of lacking videos on youtube about CRT's. I'm ashamed I never shopped around for CRT's before 2010, and failed to buy tons of old NES games for a dime a piece.

still the frame, either dark or background light (focus on light bulb reflection if this is the case) and make sure you're running in the correct refresh rate for your camera. play with HDR settings, and take a few shots.

Eventually you can record video once you get a handle on it. Also don't use auto focus. On smart phones, tap an anchor point for the picture to focus on. Also keep the monitor as at least 90% of the frame to really get a clean shot of it, major contrast in light sources could cause the lens to get confused about what it's trying to pick up.

Also Amazon only sells one type of power adapter for Genesis model 2 or 3. Mine is dead after checking earlier. Is there a local store where I can buy these accessories? Because $14 for a power adapter is awful.

buy an NES adapter.

That works on a model 2 Genesis? I have an NES adapter right here and it 100% doesn't fit in the Genesis adapter port.

dont use a nes adapter, it uses AC instead of DC, try to find a good quality generic 9~12v DC adapter with the right tip polarity

Oh, I misread your post and thought you were looking for a model 1 adapter. You may just have to spend the $10 or so on an official power supply, third party ones are all over the place in terms of quality.

outta my way, faggots.

I feel like I've lost a part of me over the years, my consoles are always in the closet in crates, and I don't have a good crt, my 8" or whatever is sad. That everdrive must be nice, what kind of snes is that and why does it look different? Two dreamcasts, interesting.

that's an SFC. Also run yo dreamcasts on VGA on a PC monitor

I never owned a SNES when I was a kid, so I just decided to buy the console and an everdrive after the fact. I got a jap model, because for some reason, those are dirt cheap and the american models are expensive as fuck. The price difference is ridiculous, even when factoring in the shipping.

Two dreamcasts because the one on the shelf was my original one that recently died.

Scalpers are NOT a myth. Don't give me that "it's just supply and demand, goy :^)" shit. It's so fucking easy to jew the retro shit market, and most people are high off a fad that they're willing to shell out hundreds of bucks for some shitty game.

I'm just lucky I never threw away any of my stuff from when I was a kid. I would never go around buying these old games for ridiculous prices like they are now. If you're going to do that, just get a fucking everdrive and be done with it.

that's the original super famicom (japanese snes) Nintendo like to change their beautiful japanese design with crappier one for US release.

The dreamcast is being run via VGA. The monitor is on the desk on the left.

nice. I'm looking forward to getting one of these one day for a more living-roomy setup. I'd like at least a 28", the appeal of having a massive multiformat presentation monitor has made it one of my near future goals.

I'm learning so many new things in this thread, damn. Need to watch some more subbed arino-san's Gaming CX.

I'm so confused, does Dreamcast actually have a VGA port? I use component rgb. Do you want me to get a rgb->vga adapter? And I'm assuming it should be a CRT pc monitor? So many choices.

That'd definitely be really cool to have. I'm just lucky I was able to get a 20" PVM for very cheap, and I'm even luckier that it arrived at the post office without any damage. Most people I've seen only have the 13-14" ones, and they paid like 4x the price I did for it, which is just ridiculous.

Those larger 28" monitors would be great, but AFAIK they're also much rarer and harder to get. And keep in mind that monitors are MUCH heavier than a TV of the same screen size. I deadlift 455 and I remember having a hell of a time carrying around that 20" beast anyway. Best of luck finding one.

Personally, I just have a 32" TV I also keep around. Smaller PVM for quality, and larger TV for size.

You can hook VGA cables to the same port on the back as you would any other AV out cables.

sega knew that progressive scan is the best way to view games, and with consoles graduating from 240p, the next step was truly 480p. y/pb/pr was still uncommon on consumer sets in 1998 during the design of the DC, so they wisely realized it's best to target computer monitors with RGBHV through VGA would be the best option to get high res progressive scan into peoples homes.

There's several VGA adapters available for the Dreamcast from cheapo hyperkin ones to premium ones like the toro VGA box. It's the best way to play the system and 640x480p on a dreamcast is just gorgeous. The games look incredibly gorgeous, and it even makes it look tolerable on an LCD thanks to the progressive image.

my dude I carried my Ikegami HTM-2050RA1 a 95lb monitor up and down a flight of stairs in a flight case, believe me, I know the struggle. This thing is a monster.

...

for the record if anyone feels they need help carrying a CRT, get help, your back is more precious than gorgeous classic video games

Update with a classic LCD. Cleaned off the shelf to make ready for my CRT but found this classic LCD. Eat shit CRT fags. None may question this legit classic LCD awesomeness. Gamegear with TV tuner playing psone forever.

Keep in mind some games do not support VGA on the Dreamcast.

I'm dumbfounded. Never in my life have I heard this technology was used for Dreamcast. I think I'm using a default V/A that has rgb plugs. Is that 480i?
Unrelated nice enhanced version song, next post will be a mash of genesis music.

there's a very easy work around for this, once you know the games, plug in the composite cable, and once the game starts up, hot swap back to VGA and you've got 640x480p, even for "unsupported" games.

you'll be even more surprised to hear the sega saturn was actually the first console to support 480p on a hardware level, just the only hardware with proper outputs for it were development systems. It still exists functionally on the consumer hardware but would require significant modding to re-enable. It's only been confirmed through homebrew however, no games used it but it may be able to hack it and force it on games which use saturn high res modes for things like menus such as panzer dragoon saga.

The dreamcast was Sega fully embracing it, however. If you're just using RGBS thru scart or BNC or something, it's running in 480i.

I wonder if one could combine the cables with vga behind an on/off switch rather than pulling out the av and swapping in the vga.

I think the toro actually does this, and HD Retrovision are developing a dreamcast y/pb/pr cable.

I read that workaround in the vga dreamcast wiki, thanks for the reassurance. Saturn with 480p, man I don't know where my Saturn went, I'd play Virtua Cop again with the gun controls.
So another question. Putting video output through my BenQ LED 120hz 1080p monitor, it seems to have D-Sub which I guess is VGA. Its the 3 row 5 pin per row and is blue, so its good I bet. I guess I can actually play old consoles on my LED PC, this is a good turn of events.

Oh, thought you were 570755

It's a VGA port, but PC monitors do not accept 15khz signals which the majority of consoles use. You can use dreamcast, original xbox (requires y/pb/pr to RGBHV conversion) Xbox 360 has official VGA cables, Wii can do 480p standard, and that's about it for your options. Not the most flexible solution to be honest.

good to know. found a capture card that actually works with the dreamcast vga so was pretty disappointing when some games threw that error.

The Toro definitely does it for the Scart part of it, not sure about VGA though. It's really great, make the non-VGA games look just as good as VGA.

...

Yeah, like four, and none of the heavy hitters. Most of the best games run in 480p, or have a hack to enable it.

Debatable, though our Cart slot is fucking patrician. Rip out two dinky tabs and import away.

Everdrive is okayish, one should really sock away money for the SD2SNES though. The ED supports 0 special chips, while the SD2SNES is working towards supporting the majority of them, except for like the AI processor on a couple board game titles nobody's interested in anyway,

Console modding is more than modchips, user.

One of my biggest regrets is not buying a PVM owned by NASA when they were making the switch. It has all these NASA stickers all over it & everything.

Who said I'm not? If you look closely, you can see I have a wire running over to the front of the genesis.

Yeah, a lot of it is luck and/or foresight. I got lucky and found someone with a bunch of old medical surplus who was offloaded for dirt cheap. Mine came with all sorts of labels about it being an endoscopy monitor still attached. This was like 2 years ago, but even then the PVM meme was going strong. Had he known how prized these things are, he probably could've gotten away with selling it for like 200 bucks or whatever price they are now.

check it out, i got this never before used microwave

Soon summer ends.

Friend wants to see Guardian Heroes, if you have it.

...

I'm playing my games like this and I don't care. Fuck crts I want convenience and fun

MY FUCKING EYES!! ITS BLEEDING FROM THE EDGES

Summer doesn't change shit on any chan and that has been known for a fucking decade newfag. Get the fuck out.

nah I like that a lot actually. I tried the standard configuration of aperture shader which is sharper and probably resembles crts more closely but for some reason I didn't like it. I like this blurry geom shader

...

that crt filter is actually not so bad.
Better a subtle effect and closer to a real crt than an exaggerated mess that wraps around and gets even further away from the real thing.

It also doesn't add bullshit curve. Who seriously didn't correct their screen geometry when possible?

Retards. Or 99% of the world's population and 99% of CRT users.

Now to be fair, fucking with a consumer grade TV's geometry would involve opening the case and fucking with the tube. normalfags aren't about to risk it.

I have one, no shame. Got it used for less than 100 americabuckos, comfiest chair for the money by far

Gross.

More reliable than a PS1 which kicks the bucket if you just look at it the wrong way.

Also near-instant load times.

I have been using both a Playstation and PSOne since 2002 and they still work. Maybe you are just retarded.

k. The PS1 is known for having shit build quality, with the lasers going out left and right - even during its heyday. It wasn't uncommon for people to turn the damn thing upside down just so it would read discs.

Sony has never put out a reliable console.
all ps1 models, all ps2 models, all ps3 models and all ps4 models are as fragile as ripe fruits in the wind.

This is on launch models which have an inferior gpu. You should always do your research and find the best model for you.

I like the model in RetroArch, Beetle PSX. :^)

Do what works for you, i prefer authenticity and accuracy

Eat shit cuck, go back to your emulation cave and choke on a hundred dicks

stay mad white boiiii

Nice meme chart.

This right here is just like a consoletard saying "the human eye can't see over 6fps!"
I have a 23 inch 1080p monitor, I'm barely 30cms away from screen andI can see the pixel grid. It also becomes doubly obvious when there's a lot of blue.

Also we're assuming being unable to see individual pixels means there's no benefit to improving pixel density which is just wrong.

You have to go back

The chart doesn't contradict you if you bothered to comprehend it, 1080 monitor for right in front of your face is a good idea.

Where does it state that on the chart?

Citation needed, nigger. Sure the OG PSX and PS2 Fats have issues, but the slim remakes are built very solid. Sure, they won't hold up to abuse by a nigglet like you, but in the hands of a responsible human being they hold up perfectly.

there were later revisions of base model PS1 and PS2 that solve issues with early hardware. The best PS3s are put together by cheap chinese labor so they do require maintenance and are unfortunately cumbersome to disassemble, but this isn't really a practice that should be avoided. Regular maintenance of all your belongings should be routine.
