I would say this is definitely a factor, and yet, there is a very important reason why I brought up the pygmalion story, the most fundamental fantasy of the lonely misanthrope.
Here, I claim that while the desire for being granted the muh privilege may be impressed by society onto the individual, the muh privilege cannot be granted by society, or even by individuals (who can grant sex), for what is this muh privilege in its essence? You've already named it! It is the idea of being "worthy". But what does it mean to be worthy of sex here? In the original Pygmalion story, the artist was a woman hater, who did not have sex because he couldn't, but because he despised the shallowness of the women of the world. However, he falls in love with the statue, his idealized women, not simply because she is beautiful (for there are many beautiful women in ancient mythology!) but because he created her. That is, because of this relationship, of the self reflecting on itself from an outside perspective, she understood him in his totality, and still accepted him! I think it's clear, what the fundamental issue is is not sex per say, although its a necessary medium for this problem, but rather of being understood and accepted. Sex, or rather, a romantic relationship, as almost all of these men have been told through their lives, is the only way to achieve this muh privilege of being understood and accepted.
So, what does it mean if they are unable to achieve this muh privilege? Either that they have been understood, and deemed not worthy, or that the rest of the world is so shallow they do not even attempt to understand!
You bring up the phenomena of waifus, and I think its the perfect way to tie this all together. For an example of this ideology at its purest, I'd advise you to watch this little music video: youtube.com/watch?v=gwiD6WDCwRQ
Waifus, as an idea, are the exact modern equivalent of the pygmalion fantasy! So yes, I advocate for robo-waifus, but in a very specific fashion. There must first be a process, before acquiring such a creature, of laborious creation. A process which guarantees such that the creator believes that their partner genuinely understands them, or will try to do so, and accept them, despite of what they discover.
I've probably given too much thought to this topic, considering I've sort of written a novel about this stuff
