In this thread, various members of the community have listed recommended literature regarding leftism, i.e. economics, political theory, philosophy and other subjects related to leftism. Some recommendations are for starters, or for those in advanced literature.
Holla Forums has many ideologies, Marxist, Anarchist, Left-com, etc. so there is a variety of different literature with different viewpoints.
Reading literature is recommended, as it helps you understand leftism better and is much better than reading Wikipedia synopses.
And PDF related, economics for beginners (non-bourgeois) Economics for Everyone USSR Political Economy Das Kapital (Abridged version)

Well since this is sticked I'll post this "list of reading lists" again. None of them are mine, but they're what I use for reference, so maybe you guys could use something here as template for this.
platypus1917.org/pedagogy/ Probably the closest to what you want, at least as far as philosophy goes. The reading material tends to be good and to the point. Don't fucking join them tho.
la.utexas.edu/users/hcleaver/ Harry Cleaver's page at UT with many courses and their respective reading lists and shit. There's an introduction to Marxist theory there.
I don't want to make this too lengthy but I can post more later.
James Lopez
I've heard of this platypus group before. What's thier deal?

I don't have any reading to offer but I can recommend a bunch of youtube channels.
Leftist:
Democracy at Work is the main channel of Richard Wolf. He is a left economist and has been very active in analysing the current economic problems, how they relate to capitalism and how to move past them. He is a good point of entryism, since he mainly advocates for worker coops. youtube.com/channel/UCK-6FjMu9OI8i0Fo6bkW0VA
Muke is a Holla Forums user, which distinguishes him from most other leftists channels on youtube, since most of them are high on idpol. He makes some okay theory and debate videos and can be funny. youtube.com/channel/UCDULjo1v2Hivuu4h4LZSTUQ
Bad Mouse is, according to Muke at least, the best active leftist youtuber (not counting lecturers like Wolf). His content has a higher production value than most other channels and he does both humour and serious theory pretty well. youtube.com/user/xaxie1/videos
Philosophy:
Wes Cecil is a great lecturer that talks about many topics in an eye opening, humorous but effective way. He has done various lecture series, including my favourite, Myths of the American Mind, as well as Forgotten Philosophers (which has a Stirner lecture) and Uses of Philosophy for Living, which I also highly recommend. While not openly leftist, he exposes the ridiculousness of capitalism and what it has done to our culture, as well as generally breaking up myths. youtube.com/channel/UC9ff15w4ufviWfv9UfIuByA
Theramin Trees and Qualia Soup do similar content and are irl brothers, so I'll list them as one. Their channels are focussed on religious criticism on a philosophical basis as well as on moral philosophy in general. They are probably the best channels on religion on yoututbe. youtube.com/channel/UCJ-vHE5CrGaL_ITEg-n3OeA youtube.com/channel/UCc_xdkOBgSYLmXTn-VSQ4uA
Yale has an open access project, meaning that they film various lectures and upload them. If you weren't born boug enough to go to Yale, this is your chance to get some of their knowledge. While the lectures cover all kinds of topics and can be really interesting, this is by no means a leftists institution, so don't let them spook you with their human nature. youtube.com/channel/UC4EY_qnSeAP1xGsh61eOoJA
Science:
CGP Grey is a favourite of many. His videos have high production value and he covers many topics, from voting systems to mechanization, all of which are quite relevant to the modern leftists. You should watch all of his videos, they are that good. youtube.com/channel/UC2C_jShtL725hvbm1arSV9w
Frame of Essence is a small channel with a low output. He has some pretty good physics videos explaining relativity and quantum computers, among other things. youtube.com/channel/UCQHsMwcGoH1ygyi-pJs5Z8A
Myles Power is a more entertainment focussed channel that debunks various conspiracy theorists and snake oil merchants. He has done a good series on 9/11 truthers and a lot of good stuff on conspiracy theories about biotechnology like evolved plants. youtube.com/channel/UCS_H_4AmsqC705DObesZIIg
Wendover Productions is a channel with pretty mixed content, just take a look at his stuff, it's all interesting in it's own right, covering economics, architecture, geography and more. youtube.com/channel/UC9RM-iSvTu1uPJb8X5yp3EQ
Lastly, this is more of general recommendation. The PBS has a lot of youtube channels that produce high quality content on various scientific topics. Take a look through their list of related channels to find more stuff that interests you. The one I'm linking here is PBS Spacetime, which covers physics. youtube.com/channel/UC7_gcs09iThXybpVgjHZ_7g

Excellent, thanks guys. In a recent thread I committed to starting a structured reading club, I'm in the process of reading through some works and organising how it will be structured so we can work to it together- which means we can learn more together and support those who have a difficult time committing to reading. You'll have to bare with me though, I've just started a new job so it might take me a few weeks.
I asked a fairly well-known commie blogger if he had a reading list, because I was worried not just about what to read but in which order. He said he would look it up, then ignored me. Oh well.
Adam Gonzalez
If this was 2005 that image would make a good YTMND.

Since you are already posting here whatever, have some Soviet propaganda. Quality is hideous, language is Russian, but there are English subs and it's about US elections.
For anyone who wants a structured, comprehensive, well written introduction to Marxist theory which aims at also teaching you how to think critically, I'd recommend using the attached reading list. The further readings for each seminar are ordered in such a way that one links into the next; the aim of which is to make you think about what you are reading and what each author has to say on the other.
Not all of the further readings are available online, but for those that are you can use either bookzz or libgen to find them. This is an undergraduate reading list, so it's designed to be accessible to almost anyone.

This is the stuff. Easy to read. Analysis of class struggle throughout America. Info can be used to redpill nomies. 'nuff said.

I read several excerpts from this for a class. I think it'd be one of the first things I'd read cover to cover if I were running for office (kek) or getting into some serious organizing. Seems like a talking point goldmine.
Good for exactly how, where and why class forces cause identity oppression, so you can punch out SJWs metaphorically and so on

I made such a post already, here you go:
I also happened upon a few other channels worth checking out afterwards.
The Finnish Bolshevik does various informational videos, similar to Bad Mouse. He has a good introductory series on communism, check his playlists. youtube.com/channel/UCCvdjsJtifsZoShjcAAHZpA
Activism Munich uploads various videos, often lectures and talks, in both german and english. If you like one of the people talking there, they are bound to have more videos on other channels, so look them up. youtube.com/channel/UCe5hl70Es-VQ4OWvxssFH4A
Lastly, Gregory Sadler is a philosophy lecturer. One part of Marxism, Dialectics, is hard to get into, because it's based on Hegel and he writes less understandable than End of Evangelion. Sadler goes over his writings in minute detail, so even people like you and I might be able to get what he is talking about. He also does some other philosophy stuff. youtube.com/channel/UCEtxsMx4qsoitFwjBdLU_gA

Lenin never had a chance to sum up all his works, did he?
Kevin Campbell
Kek. If you want Lenin cliffnotes get Lenin cliffnotes. No need for a politically mangled take by the gravedigger of the revolution.
Dover's Essential Works of Lenin contains What is to be Done, Imperialism: the Highest Stage of Capitalism, and State and Revolution all unabridged, plus key sections of The Development of Capitalism in Russia. The physical book is cheap, compact, and convenient, but I'm pretty sure you can read all four online. That represents the "core" of his theory.

Unless Trotsky was the only one capable of understanding Lenin - did Trotsky even make a review? - your opinion requires a bit more substance, since book was approved by the Party at the time.
Doesn't even include Three Sources and Three Components of Marxism - a sum up of Marxism by Lenin.
Incidentally, LeftCom would also call it "politically mangled take by the gravedigger of the revolution".
Well, this is as politically correct as they come, but it has some nice quotes.

This is the updated Leninism reading list I made to replace that one quite some time ago. My only regret in this list is not deciding to replace Unfinished Leninism (which I never read) with Lukacs's Lenin and the Unity of his Thought because Lukacs is great.
Man, I remember making that list. My regret there was putting the Anti-Duhring in Advanced Political Economy when only a third of it is economics while the other two-thirds is philosophy.
In my mind Leninism isn't the political/philosophical thought of Lenin per se, but rather that of his followers directly after his death. After Lenin had died, his self-proclaimed successors each postured against each other, presenting their "Leninism" as the true authentic one, using Lenin and his writings as legitimization. (which is why, despite having little contemporary significance, my list uses Bukharin and Preobrazhensky so much since Bukharin was increadibly influential upon post-October Bolshevism and 1920s Soviet ideology and Preobrazhensky shaped how socialism was percieved throughout the 20th century) Lenin was not a Leninist as Marx was not a Marxist, and just like Marxism, Leninism is an organic movement who's ideological shifts match shifts in the practical movement. The Marxism of a hundred years ago is different from today; the Leninism 50 years ago is different from today.
"Communism is for us not a state of affairs which is to be established, an ideal to which reality [will] have to adjust itself. We call communism the real movement which abolishes the present state of things. The conditions of this movement result from the premises now in existence." ~ the German Ideology
The Essential Works omits several essential chapters from What is to Be Done?, and waves it off by misinterpreting Lenin as an elitist and concentrating on parts where he can tear out of context and portray Lenin as an elitist, and the book's commentary in general is rife with anti-communist nonsense. If you really want to get Lenin, or rather into a systematic refutation of the common prejudices by bourgeois academia against him, I with full confidence (with my only complaint being how Lih de-emphasizing Lenin's split with Kautsky and therefore the Third with the Second International can easily be read as a rationalization for a revitalization of Kautskyism, which is stupid) recommend Lenin Rediscovered by Lars Lih.
If you want a decent collection of writings of Stalin, you're better off reading Problems of Leninism.
Jackson Campbell
And few others to add.

Some youtube docu's on the biggest nominally socialist state, the People's Republic of China. Needs to be studied if we want to see where to go from here, as they have reached a point not that different from our liberal societies: a perception that there is no alternative to the current system, but also no future for the system, in a sense.

I know you're trying to troll but Wealth of Nations lends itself to leftism, but you wouldn't know that because you haven't read it.
Jason Clark
Adam Smith was neoliberal just like myself. Of course it lends to leftism.
Ryder Cruz
neoliberalism didn't arise until the 1980s mate
Smith was a classical liberal which is why the neoliberals are neoliberals. Marxism, like most ideologies, borrows heavily from classical liberalism (and back in Marx's time this also included support of 'free trade' but has nothing to do with Marxism nowadays)
also a lolbertarian would never call himself a leftist unless he was an idiot

What's with people here suggesting anthologies? There are online libraries with all the works already. If you want suggest a specific reading list, it would make more sense to simply list the works.
Isaac Miller
Because an anthology is a collection of works in one place, which is the entire point of compiling a list in the first place. Why make a list when the list has already been made?

>The Essential Works omits several essential chapters from What is to Be Done? Hm, now that you mention it, it does seem to be missing "V. The “Plan” For an All-Russia Political Newspaper," which the back seems to deny while the section's introduction acknowledges… Not sure how "essential" I would call it, though. and it's complete besides that and this brief appendix marxists.org/archive/lenin/works/1901/witbd/appendix.htm I don't find the editor's forward and introductions remotely useful or authoritative. The commentary is really quite minimal so it doesn't make a huge difference, but mostly, the volume is your public transit buddy.

Jason Taylor
Berthold Brecht (anything), Maxim Gorky - The Mother, Ursula LeGuin - The Dispossessed
Leo Sullivan
It's one of the most influential books in Western Marxism, the school of Marxism opposed to offical Soviet Marxism.
And the book he wrote to deflect criticism aimed against him was Lenin and the Unity of his Thought, which is a great book by itself regardless of the context behind it.
Don't deny the influence of ABC of Communism and Imperialism and World Economy. Those two books where used as textbooks approved by the Communist Party and Vladimir Lenin himself following the October Revolution. Economics of the Transition Period is there because Bukharin was prominent in debates following Lenin's death, and it offers a counterbalance to New Economics which is on the opposite side of Bukharin/
It's essential because it's precisely the chapter that gives the name to the whole book. Everyone emphasizes the first three chapters because that's where Lenin's polemic against Rebochaii Delo lies, when the truth was that the last two chapters (which most ignore), where written before the prior chapters, and was Lenin's practical solution to the problems of organization in his day, and also why the book was influential when it was published. Lenin's call for a single unified central organ was in truth a fight against the disparate organization of competing sects (which, looking at the situation of the Left today, we can all understand) in exchange for a unity of an authentic radical Marxism, which underlies the whole premise of the book. The point isn't that "the conditions are different so lets do something else", but to find the framework that Lenin employed to put theory into practice.
Also, the 'public transit' translation is garbage. Stikhinost does not mean "spontaneity" and stikhinyii does not mean "spontaneous". Their etymological root (stikhi) has nothing to do with "spontaneous" and more so to do with what is elemental (cosmic force) and elementary (the original building blocks). The word Lenin uses inherently implies disorganization and the initial arising. In translating from English to Russian Webbs' Industrial Democracy, where these two words appear prominently, nowhere does Lenin translate "spontaneous" as stikhinost. I could go on and on (ie "professional revolutionary" has nothing to do with professionalism but moreso to do with profession, as in job/occupation). Lenin Rediscovered dedicates whole chapters on refuting these myths surrounding What is to Be Done.
Eugh, besides, reading What is to Be Done? by itself without context is so confusing because it's so very polemical. The book wasn't even seen as 'defining' Bolshevism until after Lenin had died, and even then years after that happened people just forgot why it was. Being given something that only makes sense in context with horrible context means giving people the wrong impression.
Ryder Wood

I made a reading list and more for y'all, in a six-week programme to get it done.
Choose three days a week that you can take under three hours out of a day for education. Do what it says to do each day - each task shouldn't take more than 3 hours.
Find a buddy who wants to read with you to discuss with every other week, or discuss it here on Holla Forums.
In six weeks, you'll be well grounded in revolutionary theory, economic and philosophical understanding, and historical knowledge to back up your case.

almost sounds a bit lite one dimensional man. the main thrust of the argument is that we experience a rationality of irrationality.
neo classical economics is one such example. increasing productivity through the empirical sciences which cause more misery due to unemployment than the labour saving increases. A 'natural rate of unemployment', necessary for keeping wages and therefore inflation down but as a result underutilising the use of workers.

It's funny, because he's not wrong, it's just that he's not using "leftist" to refer to who we call leftist but instead to adherents of "left"-liberal idpol. Holla Forums thinks this is an argument against us and our position because they literally can't grasp the distinction between the two, or see how the positions are antithetical, because they don't have the foggiest grasp on our actual position. Title: How Nonviolence Protects the State Author: Peter Gelderloos Date: 2007 Topics: nonviolence, violence
intro: Since the civil rights era, the doctrine of nonviolence has enjoyed near-universal acceptance by the US Left. Today protest is often shaped by cooperation with state authorities—even organizers of rallies against police brutality apply for police permits, and anti-imperialists usually stop short of supporting self-defense and armed resistance. How Nonviolence Protects the State challenges the belief that nonviolence is the only way to fight for a better world. In a call bound to stir controversy and lively debate, Peter Gelderloos invites activists to consider diverse tactics, passionately arguing that exclusive nonviolence often acts to reinforce the same structures of oppression that activists seek to overthrow.
Contemporary movements for social change face plenty of difficult questions, but sometimes matters of strategy and tactics receive low priority. Many North American activists fail to scrutinize the role of nonviolence, never posing essential questions:
• Is nonviolence effective at ending systems of oppression?
• Does nonviolence intersect with white muh privilege and the dominance of North over South?
• How does pacifism reinforce the same power dynamic as patriarchy?

This book isn’t designed to be used in the way a ‘normal’ book is. Rather than reading it from one cover to the other, casting perfunctory votes of disapproval or agreement along the way, and then putting it on the shelf as another inert possession, we hope you will use this as a tool in your own efforts—not just to think about the world, but also to change it. This book is composed of ideas and images we’ve remorselessly stolen and adjusted to our purposes, and we hope you’ll do exactly the same with its contents.
“As for the contents themselves: we’ve limited ourselves for the most part to criticism of the established order, because we trust you to do the rest. Heaven is a different place for everyone; hell, at least this particular one, we inhabit in common. This book is supposed to help you analyze and disassemble this world—what you build for yourself in it’s place is in your hands, although we’ve offered some general ideas of where to start. Remember: the destructive impulse is also a creative one . . . happy smashing! “

At the same time that President Trump swore in Senator Jeff Sessions as Attorney General, he signed three executive actions on crime and public safety, including one that targets drug cartels.
"I'm signing three executive actions today designed to restore safety in America,” Trump said in the Oval Office after swearing in Jeff Sessions as attorney general.
"These dangerous times require a determined attorney general," Trump said at an Oval Office ceremony for Sessions, who said rising crime is a "dangerous, permanent trend" in the United States and also promised to "end this lawlessness" of illegal immigration.
— Fox News (@FoxNews) February 9, 2017
It's unclear what any of the actions would do precisely, and the White House did not immediately provide copies of what Trump had signed. Trump said he is directing the Departments of Justice and Homeland Security “to undertake all necessary and lawful actions to break the back of the criminal cartels that have spread across our nation and destroying the blood of our youth.”
Another action, Trump said, establishes a Justice Department task force aimed at reducing violent crime and orders the agency to develop a plan to stop crimes against law enforcement officers, or as Reuters put it, an executive order directing the DOJ to create a plan to "stop crime."
As Bloomberg adds, President Trump signs three directives today, including one that will direct DHS and DOJ to “break the back of criminal cartels.” Trump also signs DOJ directive aimed at stopping violent crime, and another DOJ directive to implement a plan to stop crime and violence against police.

This is really interesting. How come the right always had this fascination with the occult? Is there any particular explanation? Even today, despite Holla Forums's illiteracy, they've regressed into what could be called "techno-mysticism", what with all the ironic? Kek worship and make-belief.
I genuinely haven't seen a single esoteric text from a Leftist perspective. I would like to tho
Tyler Torres

Daniel Roberts
I understand you are a wayward Holla Forumsyp who stumbled into this board for whatever reason, so I'm guessing you are referring to the Hillary and co scandals, spirit cooking etc, correct?
Well, regardless of the validity of your conspiratorial schizophrenia, we are not on their team they are not leftists. Read the FAQ, moron, or better yet grab a book from the this thread and start reading.
Jack Richardson
The right is abscessed obsessed with spooked ideas like morality, god, truth, nation, destiny, etc. It's only natural that they would be fascinated by other fictitious sorts of magic.
Jeremiah Bailey
Gnosticism is closer to Leftism than Rightism, but religion is to be separate from politics so it isn't Leftist.
Cooper Clark
Your comment is a good example of why it's so difficult to debate leftists. You are smugly sure of things you don't have evidence for. The fundamental divide between left and right is that leftism is emotionalism, and logic be damned.
Jack Hill
Nice isms.
You are correct about liberals but the right is fueled by emotions that the conflate as logic or draw conclusions from data presented that they already had concluded according to emotion in their head. "Most crime is done by niggers, niggers nig because they are niggers, it is in what my emotion dictate as their nature", so because of this they also feel having a feudal lord and being a serf is "good"?
Hudson Diaz
'Nigger' is a term invented by democrats when they owned slaves. Most crime is done by black people, but that wasn't true before the 1960's. After the democrats started using them for vote machines. Democrats accuse the right of doing what they themselves are guilty of. For example, leftists hate blacks, so they push that emotion onto us. It's not a coincidence that the only serious "black" Presidential candidate was, to quote Joe Biden: "I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean, that's a storybook, man." –Joe Biden, referring to Barack Obama at the beginning of the 2008 Democratic primary campaign, Jan. 31, 2007
Isaiah Allen
Transference is typical of every leftist talking point. Did everyone see the 'professor' last week who screamed at the cops, 'I'm trying to teach these kids humanity!1! BEAT those guys!' But still my favorite, the 'free speech' activist prof pictured here.
Colton Brooks
The entire Collected Works of Marx & Engels in English.
You're confusing trolls with serious talk. They post that to get you to leave. This is just silly, and probably why they wanted you gone. There's no connection between political beliefs and the occult. If by 'occult' you mean God, (and if so you should learn to communicate more clearly), that's not related.
Easton Gomez
As cautionary tales? Because as you know, there's never been a successful nation built on anything other that capitalism in a republic.
Kevin Garcia
Yeah, sure. I guess Evola just before dying shouted "I WAS ONLY PRETENDING TO BE RETARDED" and disavowed his entire work. And the whole Ahnenerbe thing? Himmler was just weeding out the normies.
I wasn't suggesting there is a connection, but there is a clear tendency. Even now it's apparent that Holla Forums has an obsession with the occult, whether it's ironic or not they've reached the same point their "intellectual" predecessors had. Same goes for pagans who are mostly visible as right wing.
No, by 'occult' I mean occult. Evola and the entire MEGA folders devoted to magic.
Why are you so defensive about it? It's clear as day. Is it uncomfortable for you knowing right wingers have a tendency to have nonsensical beliefs?
Lucas Howard
so Holla Forums were the liberals all along…

+ anarchism (mutualism, anarcho-syndicalism, anarcho-communism, individualist anarchism), social democracy, democratic socialism, deep ecology
- Leninism, Maoism, Stalinism, national communism, state socialism
I'm on the libertarian left, but I'd prefer capitalism to an authoritarian system on the left or right.
Matthew Morris
hello liberal, how does it feel to be both anarkiddie and a classcuck? bet it feels like belonging to dustbin of history
Wyatt Gutierrez
Wow, quite an extreme case of projection you have going there. If you think there's any future for Leninism or its derivatives, I have to assume you're some uneducated basement-dweller blaming his fast food job on broader society. It makes you upset to see people enjoying their personal freedoms, doesn't it?
The authoritarian left are a perversion of the labor movement. They literally took a movement meant for self-rule, and co-opted it for a nationalistic-authoritarian model meant to create a new elite, which they put themselves at the top of.
The future needs to be more democratic, more advanced, and more open. If you're an enemy to advancement and openness, then you're literally an impediment to human progress and the world would be better off without you.
Lucas Ward
You are left of nothing and still pretty much classcucked. I'm with the tankie here, get some fucking dialectics.
Brandon Taylor
If you agree with him, then I'm far to the left of you. I did use some right wing rhetoric right there, but in my actual stances I'm for democratization of the workplace, and I believe large national programs like universal healthcare, the right to housing, and living wages are necessities of any justifiable government. You Leninists are more actually reactionary than most Republicans.

I hate almost everyone I meet, even on here there are more bigots than reasonable unspooked people. I have a little less than 2k saved up in usd and am probably gonna lose most of it soon due to insurance and taxes and vehicle maintenance etc. I want to do something radical. Something leftist. I think the better place to start is with Young Marx (1844 manuscripts), Lukacs (Orthodox Marxism/Phenomenon of Reification), possibly Frankfurt School (Culture Industry) (I recall Foucault wrote the French wouldn't be reading Frankfurt Schule texts till the 70s), and previous Debord/SI texts such as

Okay, Holla Forums.
I've been browsing this board daily, along with a multitude of leftist subreddits (I actually joined reddit just for those and some language stuff) ie /r/Ultraleft and /r/LateStageCapitalism, for a solid eight or nine months now.
I've read almost zero theory. I've read through this thread, and all of the reading list images, and decided to start with The State and Revolution, but I'm having a harder time following than I had expected.
I want to become a well-read leftist wizard. Where do I start?

I made an effort to start reading theory, and in having trouble figuring out where I should start, I came to the Holla Forums reading list general and asked for help.

How about "Wage-Labour and Capital" or "Value, Price and Profit" as a more general introduction to the economic side of things. I'm not quite sure what kind of "leftist theory" you're out for, but these two should do well enough.
Other than that, these seems good:
And I always like to recommend:

just start with Marx.
wage labor and capital is a nice place to start. but if you truly want to be a wizard I say start with the Greeks because philosophy is the key
Thomas Richardson

Is there something like a "for dummies" version of philosophical and sociological texts? Every time I read a piece of writing I have the feeling that the author is trying to drown me in words to show how smart he is, instead of carefully selecting words to make a point.
In some cases I can understand, such as Adorno who wrote about the commodification of arts and language, but in general it is more of a burden than a blessing.
Alright, lads, I don't have a lot of time to read, but here's what I plan on reading eventually. It was originally a longer list, but I removed the philosophy books, non-socialist economic books, and everything written before modern socialism emerged.
What Is Property? The Ego and Its Own Capital, Volume I The Conquest of Bread The Ragged-Trousered Philanthropists The Sublime Object of Ideology
Chronologically, there's a big gap between the last two books, the former being published in 1914 and the latter in 1989. Are there any essential books between these two that I should put on the list?

I haven't read 'Value, Price, and Profit' or 'Wage Labour and Capital' (started immediately on Grundrisse and Capital) but I've heard they're good intros as well.

Race isn't a social construct? the left is more into empirical reality and cold hard rationality. Mysticism and esoteric content is definitely lacking on the left and IMO is necessary to have. Mythology and mysticism doesn't have to be taken literally and can sometimes convey concepts that help with your understanding of reality. Thats exactly what threads like these are. You read 50 books on a failed ideology like Communism and you condition yourself to think its a good idea.

It's something you have to just do. That might not sound helpful at all, but it's the truth. Don't overwhelm yourself. Start small and read like 10 or 20 pages a day, then slowly increase how much you read everyday. Make sure to turn off all other distractions while you read like your phone, your computer, your TV. Just keep at it, it'll be easier as time goes on.

This is a really fucking stupid meme, dont do this. Lsd tolerance builds extremely fast. After taking it once you'll need to wait 3 days for the tolerance to go down to half and 7 days for it to go down to baseline. Taking it in hourly intervals will literally do nothing. This applies for most psychadelics. Do not redose during a trip, it will not do anything.

Is there any site like this for the UK? Looks interesting.
the BO of /polk/ behaves EXACTLY THE SAME WAY AS Holla Forums BO and mods. (the archives above are a great example) they delete all the same exact things, and give the same shitty excuses. I would not be surprised if /polk/ is run by exactly the same people as Holla Forums.
in fact, Holla Forums /polk/ and Holla Forums moderation, volunteers, mods, board owners all exhibit the same exact behaviors. do not be surprised if they are all the same group of people all working together to manipulate everyone and disrupt the spread of the truth.
after some serious critical thinking about the events taking place in the present, and seemingly unrelated experiences in the past we have uncovered the extremely strong possibility that /a/ and Holla Forums to a moderate but slightly lesser extent were shill testing grounds for the disruption and culture molding tactics to be later used on Holla Forums, Holla Forums, and /polk/, only moving on when the community had been permanently ruined. they needed alot of training because /a/ didn't have the willpower and the meme magic that Holla Forums

So I thought since this is a thread about books you guys can help me. I was looking at Nick Land and I thought he looked good to read even from an entertainment perspective, since his writing style seemed intresting.
I know he is like a meme in the accelerationist & NRx sense but is he still worth reading? Does he have any intresting thoughts or is all just a meme?
Evan Jones
He's definitely worth reading, and Accelerationism isn't just a meme. most people evoke it as one, but if you read Srnicek and Williams Accelerationist Manifesto and Inventing the Future you'll see it isn't entirely bullshit, in fact, unlike the memes that Accelerationism is just out of control immiseration theory, actual Accererationism is pretty practical/pragmatic. As for Land though, I'm not going to lie to you fam, he's an amazing prose stylist, but his politics are beyond shit, and I don't just mean now, as a literal Nazi, but even back then it was just a weird mishmash of postcolonialism, Lacanian-Feminism, and crypto-Deluzean-anarchism. That being said, if you like cyberpunk, or H. P. Lovecraft, then his work is A E S T H E T I C af, and his influence is undeniable and pops up just about everywhere. Personally I'm not the biggest fan of Deleuze, I'm much more drawn to Badiou, but I like Land, he's interesting, and more then worth reading, required reading if you're a Deleuzean yourself.
Jeremiah Powell
That said, you probably should have just started a new thread, maybe it'd also have turned into a discussion.
That revoluition in rojava book, It's probably useful to someone, but it's I've read half of it, and it's mostly about the 101 different acronym groups in Rojava from military-political to civic and social, with explanations for all of them. not very fun reading, tbh. I say this as someone with an intimate connection to the revolution there. just want people to be aware of what they're getting into with that book. it's no Homage to Catalonia.

Luck to you for sure. It's a chunky read but it's so good. I've only read Capital: Volume I, but I loved it so much. I especially enjoyed seeing the progressive nature of his writing; it's interesting to see how much of Marx's ideas are used in the everyday West, far more than people will actually accept (shorter work hours, labour laws, anti-slavery/anti-child labour, etcetera). Great read. Have you finished it by now, if not - where are you in it?
I feel that in many ways, Marx almost wrote in his own type of language. Once you get past 50-75 pages his use of language really sinks in and his work just makes sense. Give it a shot.

I won't defend Assad AFTER Western forces get the fuck the out of Syria and Syrian's have self-determination, but until then he can do no wrong.
never said every word of Settlers was from the mouth of God. the main point is to develop a critical view of the labor aristocracy and its movements through amerikan history.
I'm not going to call the labor aristocracy bourgeois, but there are some significant difficulties we have to face in reaching them, and Settlers provides a good starting point. no legit MTW is going to say we have to expropriate the means of production from the lower-middle class in amerika, because they obviously don't have anything significant to expropriate. the issue is more with "how do we fight these regressive mindsets, especially when the material conditions are such that giving what is rightfully owed to Global South would, at least temporarily, cause a fairly significant decrease in quality of life for the labor aristocracy"
Sakai/Settlers is a good starting place, as he's a pretty easy read and Western leftists really need to consider anti-imperialism more deeply. this is the defining issue in moving socialism forward globally, but people crush it down because "muh kurdish partitioning of Syria" "muh tankies"
Anti-imperialism should be recommended even before stuff like Capital, as we need to understand why this struggle is necessary and the visceral truths behind it.
also, re: tankies
tankies are the only ones who have ever accomplished a god damn thing w/r/t furthering socialism :)
Kevin Powell

It's sad how to oppose Communism, you have to fall back Conspiracies, fallacies, strawmen and naive assumption on how every 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧Jew🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧 has the same interests, as if they can't have their own reasons to do things. You simplify history, politics, biology to fit your narrative, and have to assume therr is some great outside force that overseas the whole world, controlling everything. My enemas are pretty simple. I am a FFer so I want and need a deep, total cleanout. I want my ass clean for 12 hours if need be. use a fleet enema bottle. Just my preference. I use the larger size, there is a very small fleet enema that can be used but it requires several more bottles shot up my ass. The larger size 5oz is quicker. I shoot 4 of those up my ass. I then get down on all 4's. I then drop down on my shoulders while keeping my ass high in the air and let that water run deep in my colon. Trust me, this will take practice as you will have the major urge to release it. For the sake of keeping your bathroom floor clean, STAY NEAR YOUR TOILET! You will have a major urge to release but it will subside if you can hold it. I then stand up and shoot 4 more(another 20oz) of water up me and yes it gets really hard to hold it in but I once again get down on my shoulders, ass up and let that water run deep in my colon. By that point I am SO FUCKING ready to release. It feels so good to plop down on the toilet and let that eruption go from my ass. I feel like it cleanses my soul! I gently push all the water out. BUT IN NO WAY AM I FULLY CLEANED OUT YET. The worst has yet to come out and needs to be lured out. That nasty shitty water that if not cleaned out will likely come out while later getting fucked. Inserting a dildo makes quick work of luring out all of that shitty nastiness. As deep as you can take the dildo will lure out the water faster. Any good bottom at that point should be inserting a dildo, just for hole prep for fucking. It is a good way to open up your hole anyway, to get it ready for a good hard cock pounding. But it also serves the purpose of luring out that final shitty water. IMO I can't get that dirty water out unless I insert a dildo for a few minutes. While I insert the dildo, I hold it in and brush my teeth, shave etc and get ready for the shower. I leave the dildo in for at least 10 minutes while brushing teeth etc. I pull it out and out comes the remaining dirty water. One more quick fleet bottle to rinse and into the shower I go. It takes me 10 minutes to enema and push it out. Another 10 minutes or so of dildoing to get the water out while prepping, shaving etc. I can be fully enemad, showered and out the door in under an hour and be 100% confident of my hole being clean for up to 12 hours after the enema.

Has anyone got any redpills on the activities, successes and perhaps theory of the DDR, in contrast to western propaganda?
Staff Sergeant Kurt Hummel, Military Post Number L 31 605 Lg Pa. Paris, to his local group
Northern Russia, 12 August 1941
Bolshevist conditions are indescribable. I had never imagined that such misery was possible. People here know nothing about electric lights, radio, newspapers and the like. One can't call what they live in houses. There are only shanties with rotten straw roofs. Huge neglected fields lay around. We haven't yet found even a small shop. This is what people call the Soviet paradise. I wish the few outsiders who still remain in Germany could be shipped here. There is misery wherever one looks. One has to see it to realize how beautiful Germany is.
Gavin Kelly
Soldier Heinrich Stähr tells his work mates at the Hamburg Hochbahn A. G. about conditions frequently mentioned in other letters as well:
The roads. We in the infantry are probably the best judge of good and bad roads, since we have to march for kilometer after kilometer on them. Here too the Soviets haven't lifted a finger. The main roads are no better than field paths. Believe me, my dear comrades, the soldiers have had many a justifiable curse after marching 40 or 50 kilometers on such a road. Besides, it is 30-35 degrees C. in the shade, and huge clouds of dust make it almost impossible to breathe. Swamps, forests, and bad roads make military action unpleasant, but we keep moving forward.
Evan Rivera
Medical corporal Paul Lenz, Military Post Number 7 14 628 Posen, to the local group of the NSDAP, Arneburg:
Only a Jew can be a Bolshevist; for these bloodsuckers there is nothing better to be, for there is then nothing to stop them. Wherever one spits there is a Jew, whether in a city or a village. As far as I know (we asked the people, wanting to know the truth) not a single Jew ever worked in the workers' paradise. Even the smallest bloodsucker had a post with big muh privileges. He lived in the best buildings, if one can call them buildings. The real workers lived in small buildings, or better, in animal stalls, just like day laborers in old Russia. It makes no difference whether one is in a village or in a city like Minsk with over 300,000 inhabitants, the stalls are everywhere. Even before the war, most workers knew nothing but hunger, misery and slavery. Some may be interested to know that there were theaters, operas, etc., even big buildings for them, but only those with money got in, and they were the blood suckers and their lackeys.
Brandon Martinez
Soldier Walter Sperath writes to the [NSDAP] county office Hamburg 6
Everything I have seen of the so-called workers' paradise is everything but lovely. One should send every citizen who even slightly criticizes our efforts here. He would thank the Führer and the movement that these conditions are not found in our Fatherland. Animals by us live in better conditions than the people here. Our successes so far have been great, and we will not stop until we have rooted out this evil root and branch, which will be a blessing for European culture and humanity.
Benjamin Adams
Flyer W. M., Res.-Lazarett Salzlwedel to his Cell Leader Schroeder
I have seen the "wonderful workers' paradise" in the Soviet Union with all its terrible misery, and wish that those who thought differently could spend a few weeks here to see and experience what we have. The misery and horror of Bolshevism is terrible.
I hope that volunteering for our proud army may atone for my earlier sins, and that when I am back home, you, dear party member, will accept me as an honest person. In that hope, I send you my warmest greetings.
Heil Hitler!

Corporal Otto Kien, Military Post Number 18, 756, to the Factory Leadership t the Conrad Scholtz Factory. Barmbeck
Russia, 8 August 1941
Anyone who earlier had different opinions of the Soviet Union is quickly cured of them here. The poverty is terrible. Not even the farmers have anything to eat. They beg from us. There are lice and filth everywhere. One has to be careful one doesn't get them from the inhabitants.
These people don't know anything else. They sit in their huts and remove lice from each other. They don't mind if anyone watches. I've had my fill of this workers' paradise. We'll be glad to be out of here. In the past we saw pictures of malnourished children. They were not exaggerated. One can't believe it if one hasn't been here.
Camden Sanchez
Corporal J. F., Military Post Number 26,280 to his Local Group
In the Field, 3.8.41
What we have seen of the so-called Soviet paradise is worse than we ever imagined. Anyone back home who still has any doubts should come here. All his doubts will disappear. Everywhere we go, the people are happy to be freed from Bolshevism, and looks to the future with confidence. We soldiers can say to those back home that he [Hitler] saved Germany and all of Europe from the Red Army. The battle is hard, but we know what we are fighting for, and, confident of the Führer, we will win. In the hopes of a victorious return,
Heil Hitler Corporal J. F.

In Charles Malato’s Philosophie de l’Anarchie (1897) we find both raciste and racisme: No doubt that before arriving at complete internationalism, there will be a stage which will be racism; but it must be hoped that the layover will not be too long, that it will be rapidly surpassed. Communism, which appears that it must inevitably be regulated at the beginning of its functioning, especially in regard to international trade, will bring about the establishment of racist federations (Latin, Slavic, Germanic, etc.). Anarchy — which we can glimpse at the end of two or three generations when, as a result of the development of production, any regulations will have become superfluous — will bring the end of racism and the advent of a humanity without borders. nationalvanguard.org/2015/06/on-the-origin-of-the-word-racist/

Its because the same globalist arms industrialist control both sides and create 2 sides that they pit against each other using the same methods with different titles and terms
Meanwhile they get richer, gain the means of productions and manipulate voluntary institutes ending up with people dying in the streets.
It makes me sick seeing how people are manipulated in these sets of believes that just results in more suffering of people.

We need to stop listing Das Kapital without anything else to help on the side, as it's only worth reading it if you're studying economics, otherwise you'd be better off with reading Cafiero's abridged version. Everybody lists Das Kapital because it started it all but no one ever reads it in its entirety.

First chapter of Capital vol 1 or at least have some kind of understanding what use-value and exchange-value are. You can also read "The Phenomenon of Reification" from Lukács's "History & Class Consciousness" but it's not necessary: marxists.org/archive/lukacs/works/history/hcc05.htm

I've read the updated version of 'The New Paradigm' and it is an interesting insight into the man's political and economic ideas. These ideas are typically rooted in centrist, neoliberal ideas and the solutions Soros was proposing to the 2008 financial crisis were no different than what some of the centre leaning Democrats and Republicans were proposing at the time. Soros also spends the first few chapters of the book going on and on about how his father fought in the First World War, about how Soros himself became a hedge fund manager and how his ideology shifted from more libertarian leanings, to the more neoliberal ideas he extols in the later chapters of the book.

That isn't necessarily a bad thing, though. Well the thing is that almost all modern political ideologies stem from or are heavily influenced by the enlightenment, which comes from Europe. As such any understanding of modern politics must be from an eurocentric perspective. Trying to understand politics from a non-eurocentric perspective would be like trying to understand Abrahamic religions from a non-Middle Eastern perspective. it simply isn’t possible.

Any recs on basic books on bourgeoisie economics? Criticisms of MUH FREE MARCET and such would be neat.
I can't use Marx to shut up libtards, but I'm finding myself arguing with them all the time. It is actually pretty easy to make their minarchies look absolutely undesirable, but I'd still like to argue against their purely economical points about how LESS REGULATION, MORE MARKETS fixes everything. I've liked Piketty before and I'll probably try to get deeper into his stuff.

Yes, Nikolai Berdyaev was a socialist in his youth and became what could be described as an anarchist later. He criticized both the Orthodox church and the Russian despots. You could say he's the Orthodox Kierkegaard. He saw Russia in the religious, eschatological sense, that Russia has a destiny to lead the world into a brighter future. The exploration of the Russian spirit and its connection to the Christian (and Pagan) faith went in hand with his analysis. I can understand if it's too niche, but nevertheless it's a pretty good history lesson since he goes over the intellectual tradition in Russia and has some criticism for the Russian communists as well.

Wow surprised to see Berdyaev on Holla Forums. Extremely underrated thinker. I'd highly recommend his work The Meaning of History. A bit too idealistic for my taste but nonethelss every leftist looking to expand on Marxist conception of history should read it.

Hey guys, I am pretty much a notheory brainlet just lurking this board, but I'd like to get to reading. Also, I'm a graphic designer, so something related to creativity, arts or culture would be neat, something coming from leftist angle. I prefer audiobook format but a regular paperback also does it. What would you like to recommend? Thanks in advance.

I would suggest reading Gramsci's "prison notebook" in which he develops his theory of cultural hegemony. IMHO Gramsci is quite underestimated by this board, but it may be also due to the fact he is not the easiest to read (he did write from Mussolini's prisons).
Also pretty much anything from Adorno, the famous archmage of the Frankfurt school of witchcraft and wizardry. In particular "Aesthetics theory" I would say.
Nathaniel Thomas
I'll keep those in mind, thanks, but to advance enough to read Gramsci and Adorno, I need to start from somewhere easy to read. What in your opinion is some easy reading that would help me steer in general direction of Gramsci and Adorno?
Caleb Smith
Begone, Peterson.
Austin Allen
It's far inferior to the fifth edition. But thanks anyway.
It's a 1954 Soviet Texbook on Political Economy. In some ways it's just a rehash of Capital, but also includes Leninist theory.

This has already been posted in another thread, but Corey Robin's THE REACTIONARY MIND is essential reading if you want to understand common right-wing tropes and put the modern right and Alt Right in perspective (spoiler: they have much more in common with people like Edmund Burke than you think).
Robin himself is a leftist and the book triggered lots of right-wingers who are in deep denial about how insane and predictable the right-wing has been across time and place.

Can you point me to where he defended Kurdish independence?
Isaiah Harris
I don't think user meant Lenin specifically spoke about Kurdish struggle in particular, but that Kurdish struggle is a struggle for national liberation, something Lenin supports. Unless Lenin said something along the lines of "National liberation is great except when it's thoses guys doing it" It's reasonable to assume Lenin would be sympathetic to to the Kurdish national liberation movement.
Altough support for National Liberation as a mean of emancipation quickly reach it's limits for nations exists mainly in opposition to each other, and you enter the steril quarrel of who's legitimate to claim land.
Hence why R0java moved to become a multiethnic confederation because ethnostatist road would lead nowhere especially in Middle East context.

While I understand your sentiments I have to challenge your assertion that capitalist societies aren't authoritarian. Just try using some owned but unused land for example. You're given a very limited range of options to choose from, slave away or suffer deprivations, rebel and be imprisoned or killed. Your thinking that it's not authoritarian is just the effects of years of propaganda.

What specifically should I read if I want to counter the argument that capitalism is the only system for innovation?
Adrian Kelly
You don't have to read anything to counter this because the answer is common sense. Innovations have happened throughout the entirety of human existence including pre-capitalist modes of production. Because of this fact it would be crazy to imply that capitalism has a monopoly on innovation.

Anyone have a PDF of Blackshirts and Reds by Parenti?
Anthony Cruz
First thing: you can read a book. You can. It'll take a bit of discipline but it's doable, and once you read one you can do it again.
Don't start here. not because they're bad reccs but because you're a bad reader.
Perlman's pamphlet is the bare essentials, easily digestible and short. Get through it first. It'll hopefully give you a leg up.
Covering similar material in a bit more detail is the next pamphlet. It's useful because it also contains a simple numerical example.
Then, read Mandel's general introduction, which the two prior should have prepared you for. It's a little out of date now but in some aspects remarkably prescient. What he calls neo-capitalism is now generally called late capitalism, one aspect of which means the state acts as guarantor for the economy. If you're familiar with Obama's bailouts, you'll know he was right.
After that my advice is read a biography of Marx. It'll tell you who he actually was, not what you've heard he was. Sperber provides a solid account. After that dive into Marx and Engels' writings. You should be prepared by then.
another great place to get commie books, especially academic ones. however you need an invite using an email address, if anyone wants an invite reply to this post with a throwaway email address and I will invite you
