Phantasy Star Online 2

With Episode 5 nearby, how are you guys holding up?

Rather play Legion than PSO2

This part was funny back in the day.
My char was a Cast with a very slim waist and legs and a huge upper body
But for some reason when in human form it was fat as fuck (not very different from me irl, actually).
The persona scenes were very funny, he just changed masks to my cast head then got fat, nothing to do with the body of my character in the scene.

Yeah, it gets ridiculous. I miss the Persona.

I knew the Japanese community was casual as fuck, but this is just pathetic. Then again, we have our own brand of retardation in the English speaking community with people saying shit about upcoming content that directly contradicts what the devs have said. In the case of Episode 5, people are saying level 1 hero will have the stats of a level 75/75 standard class despite the fact that we've already seen hero's level 1 stats, and they don't differ much from any other class.

Hero is pretty OP as is. They made the Summoner class because they are casual fucks.

100% agree here. Sega was completely open about the entirety of Episode 4 being an attempt to get the kind of person who plays cellphone games to play PSO2. Those commercials where they had their mascot girls talk about the game's dress up and social features made me facepalm.

And here's where I have to say I'll wait until the class comes out and we see what it can do before I call it overpowered. Casual as fuck though the game may be, it's also surprisingly well balanced since Episode 3. I have a feeling hero's title of PSO2's first advanced class is just because players won't be able to ironmate as heroes.

I get the feeling Episode 5 will be the last episode until they shut down this game and move on to making another Phantasy Star game.

i usually forget how much time we waste on MMOs and how they simple, one day die.
You wont get to play with that character ever again

It's fun while it lasted. I bet we got a year left and then it's the private servers. I just wonder about the next Phantasy Star.

So it's just another title fodder? Oh well, at least it comes with cool costume.

In some of their streams they said something about 8 years business plan, so expect PSO2 run until 2020, since it launched in 2012.
For it's age it doesn't even look half bad, it only needs animated hands which is already a thing in cut-scenes.

So I guess we might get an extra episode or two.

...

Keep in mind that entire SG business was introduced because they weren't meeting their income expectations.
If game goes bankrupt it might close sooner than that.

To run the game you need game fucking guard. Shit can't get any shoddier than that tbh.

The BEEG DAMAGE NUMBARZZZZ you see are usually just to get people hyped up for the new content and shit. That said, I'd give it about a month or two before passing a verdict on the Son of Sparda. Y'know, let people mess around with the class, then complain in shitholes like PSO World about how Hero is soooooooo broken and how they shouldn't have nerfed Forces.

Isn't katana Braver already Vergil?

Hero isn't broken, the only broken build in the game is Hunter/Fighter with cross class fists.

multi hit damage outdoes everything in this game.

Wait what makes it better than Fi/Hu?

So, the episode 5 maintenance is going on right now.

I really want be hyped but I just can't.
It's the same fucking game for 5 years now.
I wish they moved on already.
PSU2 when?

...

And here comes (1) and done bait squad.
I'm not giving out free (you)s today, sorry.

There's something that's irked me about pso2. It seems to have lost the kind of atmosphere that made the original PSO and even PSU games memorable to me. The first time I set foot on planet Ragol and encountered the wildlife it was peculiar to see how things would change between the difficulties before things went to hell in Ultimate.

Pic related, fighting Ultimate Dark Falz for the first time and seeing everyone's collective asshole clench as he cast Grant was probably one of the most memorable moments I've had in a game for a long time.

I loved the fuck out of PSO1. Hope PSO3 would be better than the current game. But in reality, I want an actual single player Phantasy Star, no online.

The only U you're getting is this one (you)

Well, Dudu Appreciation Week is over. How merciful was he?

i started playing a few weeks ago and i gotta say, as fun as it is, why is the story so absolutely shit? i mean i tried going through episode 1 matter boards but holy fuck are they boring. and going through episode 4 was basically just….sitting on the bridge watching cutscenes with an occasional side quest. oh well, i enjoy playing around with some weapons regardless

Do you like modern anime? All phantasy star games are quintessential representation of anime of respective era.
PSO2 is 2010s anime with all the cliches, tropes and standard plot twists trendy nowadays.
If you prefer older anime, try older games.
If you don't like anime at all you probably shouldn't even play phantasy star games to begin with.

I always rolled my eyes whenever someone compared PSO2's gameplay to Devil May Cry, but then Sega went and actually did it, style switching and all. This is fun as fuck, though I wish they had thought out machine guns as well as they did talis and sword. I usually just stick to those two at this point.

Swiki got updated with partial Hero PA data, TMG sucks as expected.

Is Universe still up?

Google the Clementine server.
It's… well, it's kinda functional.

i dont mind the story i guess its just the way its presented. it feels very broken up. i mean episode 4 feels much better than 1-3 but its just so out of touch with the main game it seems. like its completely its own thing aside from the few story quests you do. either way i enjoy the game, fuck sega for not bringing it to the west but in some ways i think thats a good thing with how shitty the western audience is

Explain.

I mean I love Hero, especially after blunder that is Summoner, but it is by no means any more crazy than some of the previous movesets.
Weapon switching is nice, but you gotta realize that in total Hero still has less moves than average old weapon like katana or saber, and switching them old style is still slow as fuck.

PSO2 IS Devil May Cry of online games, and it says a lot about its combat system.

One's an MMO the others a single player game.

Yeah looking at PSO2 just makes me want to boot PSO back up more than anything.

I hope if they ever make PSO3 that it takes after PSO more than PSO2 (I'd love a direct sequel in the same universe as PSO), though I'd also like a new proper Phantasy Star as well.

It would also look better if SEGA managed to implement modern filters, bumpmapping and other shit which is what makes modern games look good but I doubt they can and want to unfuck PSO2 engine.

Erm, actually Hero can do ALL of that coz it's a Hero! It has INSANE 3d mobility with doublejump, guren-like dash with some vertical homing, very quick cancellable attack animations, no need for step or attack to JA, ability to fly anywhere with talis, and talis can dish some serious damage that theoretically better than what knuckle Fi can do. Maybe less PA variety, but most read not TMG PAs and not-PAs are useful and are more or less unique.
Also Gu has better air movement than Bo. Bo was made to suffer

Meanwhile BBow got nerfed to "time to remove from palette".

Gurren is the exception, not the rule. The only weapon I can think of that's actually as fast and mobile as anything hero has is double sabers.

Bouncer stays in the air better, but hero gets higher faster. Try getting to an infected drop ship as bouncer, then do it with hero talis.

And knuckles has nothing on malon.

Hero was released four days ago. Some other weapons are five years old. I should hope the others have more moves.

Unless you're one of those people who managed to do things like get a rainbow set of different swords for different purposes, there's no point to switching the old fashioned way when hero switching lets you do damage while switching. I'm not saying other classes haven't been fast or fluid, but hero's the only one that can dodge cancel all of its PAs at any time, and that's what makes it feel different to me.

That "MMO" is a lobby multiplayer with procedurally generated corridors and compared to games with large, persistent worlds like SWG (4.5 GB), Wildstar (~30 GB) or Rift (24.5 GB) - very limited housing options. What bloats the game are dozens if not hundreds of voicepacks, hundreds of cinematics and fully voiced NPCs. All of it poorly encoded and compressed.

Hero feels absolutely broken. To the point of being kinda easy mode rewarded for leveling 3 different classes, rather than being actually advanced class that requires any skill or knowledge gained from playing base classes.
You can just spam sword normal attacks and results are already equal or better than with any other melee weapons' best PAs, except you don't even spend PP.
Then there is universal crowd cleaner and focused weak-spot raper moves, that are super easy to pull off, aim and they just werk.
And then there are talises lol.

Not sure if intentional or just sega being sega. I mean if it is supposed to be like this, then hiding it behind grind wall for new players might actually be a good idea.
At least going full dynasty warriors on enemies looks better than waggling gay conductor stick around, even if the result is roughly the same.
Also one-per stage revival is good alternative to godomate and meme will.

Did they unshaft Ranger and Gunner in terms of weapon variety yet?

You mean giving new weapon categories to the old classes?
Just so you know brand new class for brand new episode uses OLD weapons with remixed animations, so no, they didn't do that.

Launchers are good now if that's what you meant.

Yes
Fucking gay as fuck

No, I was asking if there was more then 4 weapons combined between Ranger and Gunner including the all class gun blade while Hunter and Fighter each have 4 to themselves including the all class gunblade.

Well there is bullet bow? I guess?

It's not really fair to compare weapons that way, because at the end of the day most HU/FI do not use their full range of their weapon choices, but GU and RA do.

This has to do with what each weapon can do, and how many dead PAs (PAs which don't do enough for what they do, or are completely outclassed by other PAs) there are for HU and FI weapons.

Its not about optimal playstyle its about fun

I honestly love the game but I can't find people to play it with

Well, I haven't had the time to check, but a lot of rifle PAs got buffed recently. That may make them a lot more viable.

Also, I don't really get your arguement because HU weapons play quite similarly to each other.

Are you in a team?

I've joined teams but they always fall apart pretty quick, I'm not really good at social stuff but I still want people to talk to and play the game with since it's an mmo

I bailed over a year ago. I can't do what I want. I can't fuck around with a small group of people. The grind never ends. This last thing is true for a lot of games, but PSO2 is just not rewarding enough.

What part of not about optimal play style do you not understand?

Post your PlayerID and someone will pick you up for the Holla Forums team. We're not extremely active, but there's at least a couple of us on every day.

That's totally understandable user. I personally still have fun with experimenting and dicking around with the game, but I can totally get when people burnout.

If all you wanted were more ways to shoot at things, then the short answer is no, there isn't.

Not optimal and and not viable are two different things.

Eleidus

No? They don't?

Actually yeah rifle got a bunch of new PAs like drifting around while shooting and stuff. Check them on youtube, maybe you'll like them.

I didn't get this one. What do you want to do in PSO2 that game doesn't allow you to?

I forgot to ask if you're on Ship 2.

They kind of do. They're all relatively slow, rely on guarding for defense for the most part, and their most damaging PAs rely on automate and iron will to keep the user alive.

Run around whatever area I want whenever I want, and not deal with atrocious droprates.

I disagree. Spears are much faster than swords, don't rely on normal attacks as much, and allow elaborate nuke setups with vol gaptor.
Wired lances can be pretty fast with some PAs and allow weird mobility options, that might make sense if you dedicate time to learn them effectively.

But you can? What areas are restricted? There is no stamina system either.

That was addressed with collection file system. So now you're guaranteed to get desired item for as long as you kill specified enemies enough times.

Actually now I remember that urban tileset is locked behind advanced quest capsules.
It doesn't have unique enemies or drops I think, but yeah if it's a question of principle, then it's still there.

I am on ship two but I think I'm in a team that's ded so gimme a sec

So people can play the game now instead of waiting for the right EQ to come up?

I hate when people just wait around for EQs, at least get into crafting or the casino minigames if you're going to be like that they announce the EQs way ahead of time and they run on a reliable schedule there's no reason for a crowd of people to be in the lobby just waiting around all the time

What do you mean?

Crafting hasn't always been viable. It wasn't before I quit, anyways.

more viable than standing around doing nothing when the EQs run on a set schedule

Why people even consider EQs as something mandatory?
If all you do is run EQs and not skip EQs and not run anything else, then why do you even run them? For drops so you can run the same EQ with better gear? Or because it's labeled "end game"? You can run them at level 20, they are not end game.
I never understood this mentality, not only in PSO2, but in online games in general.

If you're going to treat a goddamn video game like a second job, then get an actual second fucking job and don't fucking complain that thing made for entertainment sucks at being a job.

That sounds cool and all, but you seem to have no clue what the game was like back then.

Welp, I guess the thread is overrun by dumbfucks and johnny-come-latelies.

Well too bad dipshit, I guess you return to EVE and keep mining ore for your korean overlords and us kiddes will have FUN with VIDEO GAMES.

okay can you invite me to the team now? playerID Eleidus

After five years I'm thinking about quitting. The affixing treadmill is so tough that I've never even been able to get on it, and I don't have as much time to play as I used to, and everything is just so samey.

You know, between guaranteed high-end 13* weapons form collection files and readily tradable 11* units you don't need affixing. At. All.
Even if it irks you so much, go for basic 3/4 slotting with 100% success chance and be done with it. Combined HP/PP/Atk combo is cheap, fast and easy to do.
It's a fucking PvE game where "the hardest" can be done with crafted 7* equipment, ffs.

If I'm not upgrading my gear, then what am I doing? Either way I'm just hitting dudes until they stop moving, it's just a question of whether I can get something else out of it, like bigger numbers to slap on my damage-maker.

this is probably why people tire of MMOs and games in general, you need to learn to enjoy hitting dudes; the combat is pretty fun, the enemies are well designed and animated, and the scenery is beautiful. Just relax and have a good time

Dressing up?
Helping new players?
Finding new friends?
Participating in autistic events?
Making dank symbol art memes?

You will never finish upgrading your gear, and you're still using it for hitting dudes until they stop moving, then why bother upgrading?
Or what rolling rng with 3 repeated voice samples from dudu/monica is "doing something/getting something" for you?
Those whole fad started when player realised just how much more powerful extra 300 atk will make them, because gear was giving so much stats.
But now you're given so much fucking atk, those 300 are just in 3000+k.

Well yeah, you will kill what's the last raid boss name 10% faster. In 8.1 minute instead of 9. 50 seconds faster, wow. Assuming the rest of your mpa has those +300 atk as well.
I can understand stacking PP, but then again stacking up to 150 with all class title bonuses is super easy, and anything past that is just luxury.

It's rough when you don't know moon

At this point I'm convinced that most japs fleed ship2, and those who are still here are westaboos that welcome gaijin.
Plus there is chat translator. It's shitty but get message across. Occasionally.

I mean it's a fucking online game, if you want to just grind there are better games for that. Or batter stylish action games. Or better dress up games.
The whole point of PSO2 is that all those aspects are decently incorporated into multiplayer game.

Also yeah there is this team, some member of which are regulars on 8ch.
You can socialize with them, if you can handle the memes.

I ran into a block full of japs on ship 2 today they probably just hang out where we don't because we're annoying

Is this some sort of weeaboo version of white guilt or what?
Holy fuck.
I guess next time you run into your clit-eyed overlords better start sucking their micro dicks in round before they report you for being dirty white pig.

English only speakers are the BRs of PSO2. Deal with it.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but it's not me who has to deal with it.

I don't have to deal with it since I know moon, but I'm also not going to pretend it's not an issue by trying to pretend it's "white guilt" that gives English speakers a shit reputation on PSO2.

What I'm saying is that SEGA knowingly and willingly allows us in by not fighting AIDS and his translation tool or putting up any IP walls.
Thus I'm a full fledged player having just as many rights and privileges as those subhumans are, and am not giving a fuck if I'm making anybody uncomfortable.
Can't handle me? GTFO from my ship.

It's not your ship. It never was. You're a guest that Sega grudgingly allows on their servers so that they don't burden their own players with shitty IP issues like the SEA server did. What you do is like walking into someone's house, taking a shit on the floor, and saying "Don't like it? Get out of my house", but trash like you will never understand that.

It's my ship and I don't give a flying fuck if somebody thinks otherwise.
SEGA welcomes me because it wants my shekels. Well good luck getting them lol.

how would you feel if you were playing some western MMO and a server got swarmed with gooks speaking moonrunes?

I remember there being a server spanning competition at some point and ship 2 was dead last

no, it's my ship and you should get the fuck out for trying to upstage me as the owner of my ship

it might be your ship but I'm the captain of it

how can you be a captain if you don't even have a hat

I have the female cast parts that look like a pirate hat

They tolerate us because it's more trouble than it's worth to tell us we have to go back.
But go ahead and keep being an asshat. Do it in public even. Earn that account ban, you'll be doing everyone else a favor.

isn't it more that they don't want to bother with localizing the game and don't see a need to given that we take our money to them of our own accord?

They "don't bother" doing that because they know that 99.99% of collaboration event content won't make it into the game due to licensing bullshit. Dragon's Dogma had a grant total of ONE collab and none of it's material made it into the PC release because of that. Imagine that cropping up dozens more times and the legal headaches it would cause. It's just not worth the hassle. And shit like lottery scratches for real money in online games are still somewhat of a legal gray area right now.

I really, really like the new hero outfits (at least the base wear). Aside from the insignias on it, the simple scifi knight design fits with the style of the early outfits.
Also, hero's teleport with talises holds you in place while charging, so you can go really high up without falling down. If you do it horizontally it might not be as fast as guren dashing, but it's probably faster than running and doesn't cost PP.

That's no longer an excuse ever since Granblue did the "English is an option not an official port so we can just ignore licensing lel" thing.

It's more likely that SEGA is well aware of the English population and how they self-patch, so why would they go out of their way to make it official when they can just have this grey area allow English players to play AND give them shekels?

I'll get you as soon as I log in, if someone else hasn't already.

Alright, I just checked and someone already sent you an invite.

not in the nihon, they've changed their advertising to be the "most popular MMO in japan" or something based on their numbers the japs are nothing if not efficient businessmen

thank you

I've seen plenty of Japs, they just don't hang out in block 1.
I don't either.

I actually rather have a new Phantasy Star game than a western release of PSO2 at this point. Maybe we can go back to single player RPGs.

I wish.

Just play star ocean or something.

...

On one hand it means you don't need to park in the first XH blocks before they fill up, but on the other hand sometimes the matchmaking doesn't like your MPA and it gets stuck at 5/12 for several minutes

I still end up going to XH blocks and quickstarting in the block with no multi if I'm just solo pugging. I've had enough of 2/12 MPAs that don't go anywhere.

Hey user, do you have the Tourretes?

I don't think you even need it for EQs. But finding block with free space AND a party running something you want, like that campaign EXP quest or UQ is much less of a pain in the ass now, since game does it for you now.

Post your toon.

When will we be getting the western release?

...

...

I haven't made a character in a long time and I would like suggestions towards the creation of this character.

I'd say that pso2 has a large array of content and customization to make that size valid but at the same time they have a lot of unused maps and etc that they no longer use in the code that takes up a ton of space but deleting it would cause the game to break so they have to leave it there and just put more code that overwrites it. The ps vita users are coughing up blood because sega only suggested that they buy a bigger memory card knowing some people wont have enough memory large enough to support episode 5 when the game barely ran well on the thing in the first place.

would work better as female/10

You're also better off bumping up the height. Short people in PSO2 look like fucking midgets since everyone who isn't playing a loli pretty much just whacks out max or close to max height.
