Is it even worth getting? If so, what price?

It's not worth getting. There's nothing to play and is only mildly enjoyable for porn.

What about if I'm >>>/agdg/

Do you like racing sims or elite: dangerous and have a good pc? if not than it's not worth it.

Only if you're making games for yourself, otherwise no one else will play it. It's the same old conundrum;

Do you wanna fugg waifus in 3D y/n?

What about subnautica?

haven't played it
But I can recommend VR Kanojo and Robo Recall. Really fun if you have the motion controllers.

...

It would probably be pretty good but the game really doesn't have enough to keep you interested for more than maybe 3 days.

Nah I'm fine on that front. I just want to know if it translates well to VR.

I'd maybe try one at 100 bucks or so, just for the porn.

I got an Oculus Rift as an award earlier this year, this is my impression so far:

>Robo Recall and The Climb are sweet as fuck. Robo Recall especially is the most pure, unclouded fun I had with vidya in years.

Sage for blogpost.

...

I work freelance game-dev and VR is hot shit right now. Those goggles make me quite some shekels.

no and it never start being until they start fixing the atrocious VR bs like:
Awful Controls, teleport to move is like going back to the stone ages of gaming
Awful Feels, fps drops make you PUKE
Awful Content, 3-4 hours? are you fucking kidding me? Nintendos NES has more content
Awful Distribution, lock me in a vendor store? go fuck yourself
Awful Requirements, a fucking 1070 to get stable FPS means you failed at hardware design
Awful Motion Controls, its a fucking gimmick! bundling it together with "alpha" hardware like VR makes it even worse
Awful Graphics, have you looked at the VR games, most of them look like dogshit
Awful Tech Demos, NOBODY SANE BUYS TECH DEMOS, IT WILL NEVER TAKE OFF, AND NEVER SELL
Awful Ergonomics, the thing weighs KILOGRAMS, its like strapping a BRICK to your forehead, cords are mess
Awful Pricing, you expect me to pay like 500 for hardware that needs 2000-3000 just to run without me puking up, ahahahaha no

Most of these are pure bullshit, stop spreading disinformation. But ok, I'll take the bait.

Movement really varies by game. There are games that utilize the controller, there are games that have you run in place and there are games that you teleport around in. I had the most fun and immersion with Robo Recall which is a purely teleport-based games, but YMMV.

That's an intrinsic VR problem, it's like saying PC gaming sucks because the flashy nature can induce epileptic attacks, or that starring at a screen (or any light source) for too long causes headaches. It's a stupid thing to complain about.

True, but there are games that last longer. Elite Dangerous might not be the best example of quality, but it certainly lasts longer than 3-4 hours and is actually very immersive in VR (I actually had my stomach turn when I started spinning a ship in tutorial mode). Truly good games won't start appearing for another year or so at least.

No one is locking you to anything. Both the Vive and Oculus are fully compatible with Steam, and I've played pirated RedOut without any client whatsoever in VR. What happens though is that Oculus finances the production of a game and then has it released exclusively on the Oculus Store, which is no different from Origin or that Ubishit store.

Naw nigga, it means you failed at math. Both eyes for the VR headsets have a resolution of 1080x1200, so 2160x1200 for both eyes. Your normal 1920x1080 display has 2073600 pixels, each VR eye-display has 1296000 pixels, so two together have 2592000 pixels, i.e. 25% more than a 1080p display. Your vertex count also doubled since you have to render each object twice. On top of that, for smooth VR gameplay you need at least 90fps, up from 60 for PC (or more commonly nowadays, 30). So, in summary:

Meant for

no amount of minute explanations solve problems that clearly exist

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

You really enjoy your shitposting don't you?
You listed 10 problems, two of which are duplicates (bad performance = bad graphics; awful content = most content are tech demos), leaving you with 8. Out of those8, the movement controls and motion controls are subjective, so down to 6. The "locked to vendor store" and ergonomics shit is objectively false, so 4. The puke complaint is intrinsic and unsolvable since you're giving your brain conflicting signals. It's a limitation of the technology imposed by biology, so it's not worth discussing. The performance / graphics issue, lack of content / tech demos issue and the pricing issues are real but transient, which is my exact point this whole time. It's an immature technology that will take time to develop content for, both in quantity in quality, as developers need to learn and get accustomed to it. The steep hardware and performance requirement increase caught hardware by surprise, so that will need time to catch up and optimize for. The price will go down over time as with all technology ever.

Yes, it's one example (two actually since I mentioned The Climb earlier too) but again, that's the point - it will take time to mature. The fact that there is one good example means there's potential for more. The biggest issue in all this is that faggots like you crash and burn everything out of pure principle. There is literally no new technology, no new piece of hardware or software that can come out today that Holla Forums won't shit all over because it's the cool thing to do. You fucking faggots need to learn how to properly utilize critical thinking.

...

if this was like a internal development forum or something shit like that then somebody would care about "muh duplicates", rest… whatever lol
otherwise i agree it will take time, but right now its bad

First of all, make sure you get a Vive instead of an Oculus. Even if the Vive was free you'd still be paying by being the end product (facebook spyware) and on top of that the Oculus not adapting the OpenVR standard means you're screwing yourself over, without any worthwhile exclusives to show for it.

Second if you do decide to get a Vive be aware that we're still in the 'nogaems' phase of VR, sort of like the Wii at launch. Where there's some fun proof of concept games but nothing you'd play for say 60 hours.

A Vive could be a cool porn viewer once it sells for

Should be:

I own one.
No, it's not worth getting.

The tech works, and it's amazing, but there's almost no worthwhile software for it, and all VR games are either "stand up like a retard" or "click to teleport around awkwardly". There's no real vidya that just use the HMD as a peripheral, except for Alien Isolation and Subnautica, really.

Nobody's making good shit, nobody's taking risks, and everything is safe-space "motion-sickness safe" shovelware.

Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.

I dunno if it's wise to get now or later (especially with the new vive knuckle controllers coming) but roomscale VR is definitely great.
VR headsets are what was needed for motion controls to be great, it's completely different from the previous wagglan games because VR controllers are extremely precise, responsive and you can actually see what you're doing thanks to the headset.

The sad thing is there are not many good VR games yet ( A lot of it is shovelware - but there's good stuff like sairento, onward, vanishing realms, fucking SERIOUS SAM etc.) and dev is really experimental.

The market is dying for new games and you can overcharge really good

Wait, so the oculus doesn't support openVR while the vive does?
What about this OSVR thing, is it up to snuff performance wise?
I ask mostly because I might get a headset for my birthday and if my parents are going to waste cash, at least let it be the least goyish, you know.

Can someone with a Vive tell me about how noticeable the screen door effect is, how much of a hassle the cable is, and if anyone has tried Raw Data is it something to consider? I'm contemplating whether or not to get one now. Or wait for the next version.

The screen door effect is completely unnoticeable unless you specifically look for it, I personally didn't have any hassle with the cable but my room isn't that large. No idea about Raw Data though. You do need two diagonally-opposite high places to put the sensors on though.

My advice is to wait for gen 2. If you REALLY want to get something now just go buy an Oculus since they are having a $399 summer sale.

This is correct, what this comes down to is that you can't play Lucky's tale on a Vive headset because it's Oculus exclusive. And as we all know deviding a niche market with exclusivity is a brilliant move /sarcasm

Not sure as I'm not a developer myself, so I never had to use the framework. But I haven't heard any complaints if that counts.

Get the device that doesn't automatically post: Jason is playing extreme bukkake thunderrape XV Deluxe edition on your mother's kikebook wall.

Checked.
Thank you for the input. Do you use it in room scale, or with standing/sitting mode? How has your experience been with either mode?

I mean, sure I always knew zuckerberg had bought the oculus so by default it was on the bottom of the list, but if it plays exclusives with its game to boot that's one further reason not to get it. I guess I'll look into the OSVR.

Absolutely, you feel as if you were actually in the video game and you don't even notice the teleport based movement or the fact that you're wearing a moderately slim $499 PTHC™ on your head.

You'll have access to a wide variety of VR exclusive titles such as Skyrim©-VR™ and Fallout 4©-VR for only $59.99. You have no idea how great it is to see my wife's son's smile when he watches 4K fidget spinners rendered by the 4K teraflop 4K power supply Xb♂x one X.

It's like I'm contractually forced to recommend this product and I would gladly pay 6 million shekels to watch Louis CK's porn collection, my fellow \v\irgin.

Please sir, can I have more autistic rage?

Both, and it really depends on the game. While testing the stuff I was developing it was obviously as good as I made it, but honestly the only difference between the two "modes" is "you can't turn 180 degrees without room-scale mode". Everything else is just marketing bait.

Telling people to wait is now somehow the good-goy thing to do? I never even said any of the other two things you implied. Go kill yourself.

>"After years of development its not bad you're just impatient" he wrote as he nervously caressed his vive
HE

The "wait and see" mentality is fine, so long as it's not "buy it anyway and then wait and see". Starve the jews of their shekels until they spend their own shekels producing a worthy product, then grudgingly give them some if you truly need the product.

I get motion sickness really easily and when I tested a VR set I got dizzy after just a few minutes. It's a nice novelty item and all, however, if you're prone to motion sickness it will be a waste of money to be an early adapter of VR unless you're obsessed with driving games and flying sims. For cockpit view VR is really nice but for anything else it's nothing but a shitty gimmick at this point.

Motion sickness is something you overcome with repeat exposure. You become totally immune to it over time.
You're throwing your brain into an environment it's not used to: simulated visual motion with no inner-ear confirmation of actual motion. That's what causes the motion sickness. Once your brain fully adapts to it, it stops sending you those nausea-inducing alarm bells and you can enjoy your vidya in peace.

Yeah, that's why I said it's fine if you're really into driving games and flying sims since it's a much better option than buying five 24" screens. Still, if you're really prone to motion sickness you don't just overcome it with a bit of exposure. I've been traveling in a car for my whole life yet even today I get sick in a minute if I stop staring out of the window and into the horizon. Somehow I still haven't got used to it.

Good post

I just can't wait till there's an rpg where you can interact with environment and objects. The day I sit in a pub with a friend drinking (place one on your desk) and go on a will to power adventure, surely someone will make it. Also mmo-like, who doesn't want to mine with a pickaxe?

I don't get why they don't just reduce the fucking price so normal people can actually afford it. No one wants to shell out $800 just for some interesting tech demos

There is medicine for motion sickness. I take some dramamine before vr play and it significantly helps. Hopefully it will get to a point where I won't need it.

Any good VR porn games? Honey select, waifu simulator, and custom maid 2 aren't doing it for me.
