Trump’s Muslim Ban Triggers Chaos, Heartbreak, and Resistance

Following an executive order signed late Friday, President Donald Trump on Saturday launched a sweeping attack on the travel rights of individuals from more than a half dozen Muslim majority countries, turning away travelers at multiple U.S. airports and leaving others stranded without answers — and without hope — across the world.

Ginger Jentzen announces run for Minneapolis Council seat under Socialist Alternative banner

Jentzen was the campaign manager for the $15NOW movement that lost the battle last summer on making Minneapolis the first city in the state with a higher minimum wage. But the campaign appears to have won the larger war on the issue — bringing pressure that turned a majority of the current council in favor of a city-only minimum wage.

You missed the part where Trump removed the Director of National Intelligence and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of staff from having automatic positions on the National Security Council. In other words, all national security decisions are being made by politicians and military men are excluded. In particular, this means Steve Bannon is running the US right now.

I'm not American, how bad is that?

It is pretty bad. Basically Bannon and Flynn are the highest-ranking people on the National Security Council, so all national security decisions are being made by them. They are liable to do something really fucking stupid like start a war with China. Since Trump appears to be doing whatever Bannon tells him, we basically have a situation where the chief executive of Breitbart has his finger on the big red button.

And yet most people here still aren't posadists.

nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2017/01/trump-signs-a-few-more-vague-executive-orders.html
sauce here

that would require outright war to force them out of SCS. I don't think anybody in the region even wants that. Asian counterparts probably just wants containment, not expulsion.

zizek was right

This is actually a huge issue that the military doesn't like to talk about, a ton of the electronics they use are all sourced from China and likely have tons of nasty back doors built into them. They stopped sourcing them from there a while back but they have no idea how much is compromised right now.
The US also isn't anywhere near prepared for a full scale war with China, I suspect if it didn't go nuclear it'd be a major embarrassment for the US in terms of the outcome

True and true, we'll likely go to war with someone in the next 4 years though

I would also like to remind you that Bannon has said that after the fall of the Soviet Union, that Christendom has gone off track, and if militant Christianity isn't revived, the West will lose everything it has inherited over the past 2000 years. Presumably, this means Bannon wants a global crusade against Islam to wipe it off the earth.

As we have seen, Trump should be taken quite literally on everything he said during the campaign. Assuming that this is true, Trump asked several times about using the nukes against "terrorists" in the Middle East. Also, for all the shit about Trump being anti-establishment, he is still lowkey being advised by Henry Kissinger. Given all this, combined with his fanatical backing of Israel, I can see all this fitting together in a few ways:

Just imagine it, a glorious crusade against Islam followed by a conflict with China, which they spin by accusing China of raping the US economically and stealing American jobs. American proletarians will be sent to fight the Chinese for their right to be exploited back! How fucked up is that? This is a new level of capitalist contradiction.

Of course, all of this would be thwarted if the Republicans grow some balls.

lol
they would never get re-elected. Trump's base loves this shit. Trump is the logical conclusion of everything they have been doing in terms of ideological conditioning since Nixon.

WE ACCELERATIONISM NOW

That won't happen, the Russians aren't stupid enough to fall for it. They're trying to pull what Nixon did to isolate China and Russia and deal with each separately since the US can't fight both at once and win

I think we probably will take military action against Iran though as a final gasp of the American Empire, probably resulting in a US carrier being sunk, Iran fucking up Saudi Arabian oil fields, and the Saudis retaliating with their nukes

The republicans want this more than anything
plus Iran is last on the list of nations that need to be knocked out

It's pretty fucking bad–totally out of the norm. In third world countries, analysts would say this points to "coup"

Of course, we in civilized society can't call it that

What has El Bernito said about Trump's actions?

Source your Bannon bullshit.

That's the closest I can find to what the other user was talking about

there's actually video of that skype interview… i ran across it earlier. i'll try to find it or maybe some other user can link it

IT KEEPS HAPPENING

It's like Adorno wrote the first half and Dugin wrote the second.

telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/01/29/even-men-risk-lives-us-denied-entry-dream-america-dead/

...

More on Bannon, as part of an interview that he did with a historian (who is writing this piece): time.com/4575780/stephen-bannon-fourth-turning/

Well, as far as I know, Dugin subscribes to some brand of apocalyptic Orthodox Christianity combined with Russian nationalism and nostalgia for the Soviet Union, in a way. Bannon subscribes to another version of apocalyptic Christianity combined with white American nationalism and nostalgia for True Judeo-Christian capitalism. Some level of ideological convergence isn't surprising.

thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/316679-sanders-trump-refugee-order-plays-into-the-hands-of-fanatics

Michael Flynn is a anti-islam cursader and paid Turkey shill. Mike Pompeo is another cursader who wants to bring back tourture and the Phoenix Program. Eric Prince is a secret advisor to Trump and the brother of Betsy Devos. Lots of hawks and cursaders around Trump. Obviously Trump is not all-powerful and would need to get support from pro-buisness centrists but of course our biggest industries are probably finance and the military industrial complex.

Kushner is also one of the powers behind the throne and he's a rabid zionist
Though the arrangement he has is legally questionable

I think this is going to be an interesting dynamic to watch. Iran has already said they're going to deny visas to Americans in retaliation to our travel ban, Iraq is making noise about doing the same. Rex Tillerson and all his other oil/big biz cabinet or advisors porkies can't be too happy about that.

Why
They probably want oil prices to go back up, right now they're not in a good position as oil prices are back to dropping
Increase the rhetoric or take action against Iran or Iraq and oil goes back up

It's sort of inevitable. There's just too much supply. When the Russian sanctions are lifted even more oil will flow into the market. Previously in the 90s and early 00's we didn't have Iraqi oil, and didn't have Iran oil because of sanctions and war.

My conspiracy mind is telling me that these fuckers want a war in the middle east, just to prevent ME countries from shipping oil, so that US companies based in the US can ship more fracking oil at higher prices.

right now US fracking has been getting fucked, they want prices around the $70 range to be profitable
So yeah it's plausible they'll move against ME oil and higher prices will make the Saudis happy as well

I was thinking more about the immediate, short-term; at least in Iraq's case their expat engineers and other foreign workers need access to the country to do Exxon's work there. But yeah, you're right about oil prices in general.

ExxonMobill and other companies have oil claims in the South China Sea so while Rex is maybe not big on nuking the middle East he's got incentive to go after China. Japan under Abe is going in a nationalist pro-military direction. Vietnam and China previously went to war and China overall has bad relations in Southeast Asia. One of thailand's kings called chinese the 'Jews of asia" or something like that because finance and communist revolutionary were popular professions among the chinese diaspora. Anyway I think the South China Sea is a powderkeg.

I guess President Park is done for but Korea is a weird place with two authoritarian governments. I wouldn't be surprised something crazy happened there. The ROK deep state has very close US ties.

pretty sure that was just a mistake and a fuckup in the execution of the EO, not a "key part" of the order. couldn't find anything about green cards or permanent residents in the text of the EO. which by the way is FUCKING DIFFICULT TO TRACK DOWN. media just commenting on commentary, primary sources are a real nightmare to find

I wonder if anyone else has read the EO at all

I agree. We're hearing a lot about the U.S.now supposedly moving closer to Russia, but we're absolutely antagonizing China over those fucking islands. Hopefully the rhetoric on both sides is for domestic consumption, but Trump himself is a buffoon being manipulated by apocalyptic-minded aides, so *shrugs*

the key word is supposedly, but I bet you'll see US troop buildups in Poland and the Baltics continue

Keep an eye on China's proposed Silk Road pan-asia superhighway. The closer that gets to moving forward the more trigger happy the Americans are going to get.

I think I'm going to buy a few guns this week, I was already on the fence about it before

...

en.ndrc.gov.cn/newsrelease/201503/t20150330_669367.html

China is the one antagonizing the west with their imperialist bullshit. Trump is going to humiliate them over those islands and make sure that everyone knows about it too. That together with the various protectionist policies Trump plans on imposing on Chinese imports might actually help to topple that disgusting revisionist """communist""" country and create a void that will hopefully be filled by true socialism courtesy of the rising Chinese labor movement.

Executive orders are publicly published online when they are signed.

whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2017/01/25/executive-order-border-security-and-immigration-enforcement-improvements

Also, if they are not doing due diligence while publishing these EO's then they are fucking up.

If they were competent they would put these through proper legal checkups.

Fuck, really?

Oh yeah, it's Holla Forums. Material causes don't matter, everything is jews.

China is completely geographically separated from the west and has not made any claims on any territory not directly on their border, or in the proximity of any western country.

but all the oceans belong to America :^)

I see you are unfamiliar with how China defines its territory. They pulled the same shit with the Soviets too. China mistakenly believes that they own a substantial portion (if not the entirety) of the Asian continent. They will not stop expanding unless they are made to stop. Russia understands this, which is probably why Putin is going along with Trump and will continue to do so until Trump inevitably betrays him.

So if China and America where to go against each other in an all out war wouldn't we all just be wiped off the map by nuclear warfare?
Not even porkies would be willing to risk that

which is why they signed a defensive alliance with the Chinese I'm sure and regularly conduct joint military drills

China doesn't believe it owns all of Russia and Asia mate. They define their territory clearly and have some of the strictest immigration laws in the world. They don't allow bordering Asian countries to enter and accept Chinese citizenship because they have the longest contagious land border of any country and enforce it.

z-zhonguo jiayou!

Russia is aligned with China, yes. But that doesn't mean that they aren't aware of their expansionist bullshit. China is probably a much bigger threat to Russia than the US in the long run.

Why doesn't America just isolate Germany from the rest of Europe if they are so afraid of this? I mean it's not like there isn't a huge amount of anti-EU sentiment out there.

China has not attempted to expand into Russia or beyond its ROC borders

Because that worked so well for Poland, right? Fuck you.

substantiate that shit, all of the territory they claim right now belonged to the Republic of China and previously the Qing Dynasty, being taken from them by the expanding Japanese.

Because Europe likes Germany more than America. American hegemony is not popullar world wide.

Yet.

It's the PRC not the ROC you fucking moron.

So they aren't expansionist.

that's a leap

I was quoting someone. You're the moron here.

Nazbol retard making another absolute abhorrent post

As usual

Not really. When the argument is

There is only one conclusion you can draw. It's a leap to come to any other one.

I mostly agree with you about the modern PRC, I just don't think it's good to say they're not expansionist if "they're just using borders defined by previous imperial conquest" when we know there are "provinces" that would rather not be included in that

The PRC has been very expansionist recently, especially economically. They are also putting billions of dollars worth of investment into countries on the silk road.

This isn't your granddad's PRC anymore.

chicagomonitor.com/2016/07/china-and-the-new-resource-imperialism-in-africa/

Is this really a credible comment? Why am I not reading about it in mainstream papers?

A re occupation of Iraq and a war with Iran in alliance with Russia seems absolutely insane, but you make it seem plausible by your comment. You gotta be bullshitting? This sounds ==insane==

Please tell me you are tripping

I could be full of shit. But we know that Kissinger has been talking to Trump. Historically, Kissinger has been one to practice a balance-of-powers approach to foreign policy. Trump's advisers have been hardliners against China. I think war with Iran is pretty speculative, but it seems plausible considering that Trump also has a lot of Israel hardliners in his cabinet and has repeatedly trashed the Iran nuclear deal. China has also said that war with America is becoming "A practical reality", and the Trump administration has talked about forcing China out of their islands in the South CHina sea.

shit son, they're not kidding around.

Obama, the cheerleader of the """recovery,""" has relied on stock prices far too singularly and far too long as an indicator of economic health. Hopefully this skepticism will reach more people in the coming years.

I'm going to be killed by missiles with chinese characteristics. Son of a bitch

Wow. Such gratitude.

That's the issue here. They see current US "domestic instability" as an opportunity to be taken advantage of

Holy shit based China

good threads, op

Bannon is literally Hitler

this is true too

he's a coked up troll basically

WTF!

You're I s´pose, if two years ago someone said Britain was leaving the EU and Trump was president everyone woulda thought you were jokin

I just want to know if this level of danger is anticipated by any credible thinkers (no offense to (you) random comrade)

SInce the end of ww2 almost all American presidents have started some relatively big wars, so from that sense it seems plausible that Trump would do something big, then again he ran as an "isolationist" at times

I'll wikipedia a bit and then provide a list of wars American president have engaged in

...

Seemingly Jimmy Carter is the only American president who hasn't started or majorly engaged in a war

you don't have to hypothesize about this. Trump ordered his henchmen to come up with a plan to "defeat" ISIS in 30 by any costs necessary, and they're drawing up plans right now. Such a strike would require significant intensification of military effort.

It's in the news.

huffingtonpost.com/entry/trump-isis-syria-executive-order_us_588b7035e4b0cef5cf878364

I should follow it.

The positive outcome from that I suppose would be that it would be a costly war for America. Because if it goes well Iran is the real target one would assume

I feel more validated in my theory that they're all actually just edgy neocons

He was one of the main reasons all the salafists fucking flooded Afghanistan with weapons though

Oh my fuck if trump starts flooding in salafists and directly supporting Saudi groups in Syria I will lose my shit
WHY CAN'T ROJAVA AND HEZZBOLLAH JUST WIN?!

I've heard some claims that he is the actual guy who facilitated the Soviet collapse thanks to his actions

Even though Jimmy Carter is a neo lib its impossible for me not to like the guy, he is what liberals think Obama is

What the fuck? So is he a Saudi stooge or a Russian stooge? You can't be both.

It's gonna be used to help break Syria up functionally, safe zones under "US protection" and the Turkish controlled area will become de facto independent, weaken Syria as both an Iranian ally and threat to US goals for the Middle East

not a fan of Trump but this "muslim ban" is blown way out of proportions.
its not even a muslim ban technically, its a ban of people from warzones which have radical muslims.

Isn't it actually a ban on the free movement of peoples between opposition regimes?

Made me think.

It's just an entry ban on countries either opposed to the US, or countries that the US has already bombed to oblivion
The countries that do export a lot of terrorism aren't on the list

Trump exists in a quantum superposition of the two. You never know which it is until the liberal corporate media observes him, and afterwards it goes right back

this reasoning still doesn't excuse it

the list wasn't even made by Trump but by Obama's administration. considered to be highly sensitive coluntries.
Trump (Bannon) just went ahead and banned everyone.
surely a clumsy and bold move but we're far from "anouda shoa" its not even a "muslim ban"

the list was cobbled together from an old "state sponsors of terror" (but conveniently leaves out Saudi Arabia, as usual) and then a few others that Bannon wanted omitted

there was no consultation with State, Defense, or DHS or any other agency when they wrote it

gj

This was actually pretty funny because it got sprung on them with literally no warning

Eh the other user is right. The list comes from some Obama era code that requires anyone who had visited those countries to be exempt from visa-less travel. The trump admin didn't list them out in the EO, he only singled out Syria.

You guys might not be aware but China was cautious until Tillerson came out and said, in absolutely unambiguous terms, that the US was going to blockade Chinese ships in the SCS.

US: Hey guys we're going to send out destroyers in to sink ur boats lol not joking by the way we're gunna do it

China:

US: what is this aggression? this rampant, belligerant imperalism? this is self defense :-DD

Of course he didn't. Trump doesn't trust anyone outside of his small group of golf buddies.

You think Trump knows less about his enemy within than the media? If he was stupid he would have a large circle.

who/what is the "enemy within" here

Pentagon, DNI, CIA, all branches possibly bar some of the FBI.

the worst part about all this is I'm going to make a shitload of money because of Trump's accelerationist policies, assuming the country doesn't collapse first. I hate this system so goddamn much, I just want people to not have wants or needs, be happy, and free to live their lives.

Hamon won the nomination!

are you a gun salesman ?

gun stocks don't give enough dividends, and are too politically charged, Trump winning made them drop a lot ironically. Actually, Trump's shennanigans made the market drop almost 100 points today, the question is if it's long term. Could very well be his behavior damages the market, don't know yet.
