New Nioh chapter coming soon

LONG AGO IN A DISTANT LAND, I, EDWARD KELLEY, THE SHAPESHIFTING MASTER OF ALCHEMY, UNLEASHED AN UNSPEAKABLE EVIL.
BUT, A FOOLISH SAMURAI WARRIOR WIELDING 57 MAGIC SWORDS AND A KUSARIGAMA STEPPED FORTH TO OPPOSE ME.
BEFORE THE FINAL BLOW WAS STRUCK, I TELEPORTED THE FUCK OUT OF THERE WITH HIS WAIFU AND HEADED FOR ZIPANGU WHERE MY EVIL IS LAW.
NOW, THE FOOL SEEKS TO FIND ME AND UNDO THE FUTURE THAT IS NO GF.

It looks like we're getting tonfa.
And Sanada Crimson armor.
And Moth waifu.

I love Dark Souls too.

Was the last expansion good too? I've been holding off on a replay until all of the extra content is out, but last I heard the third one is a while away.

It added a new sword and new armors, more summons (along with the ability to hold two summons spirits, one is active and the other gives a passive boost), new skills, new areas and missions and a pvp mode. The missions added maybe 2-3 hours to the game.

I liked it. Once I got the hang of Odachi they became my favorite weapon type.
That's probably not a bad idea given all the "rebalancing" they been doing. Certainly I would wait to do any major level grinding or heavy reforging until the third DLC comes out.

Is this getting a GOTY release? Sat this one out because I was already drowning in weebshit.
Kinda disappointed this is more Sengoku Jidai drama than youkai hunting. Onimusha also used a historical backdrop but it was a lot more contained; this one feels like a Musou game with a gazillion NPCs.

One step closer to the PC version

If it wasn't for the story summary tab and character bios I wouldn't really have a coherent understanding of what was happening or who some of the people were.

Unless they are releasing the game on PC, I don't care

Part of what turned me off the game is that it ends making you go through a gazillion duels with Famous Feudal Japan Person #005 to #048.
Then again, I was admittedly ass-blasted from the demo fight with Tachibana. I know he can be cheesed very easily but I wanted to beat his zero-startup, perfect-tracking cheating ass fair and square.

Then why are you here?

...

Probably one of my biggest irks in the game is that there are some enemies have tracking like that. I'm not as mad as I should be because the game gives a ton of resources to the player in terms of magic and ninja skills to complement some of the abilities people like Tachibana have. I do wonder how difficult the game becomes for pure samurai players. I don't use as many weapon skills as I should.

I love when games hold back about a fifth of their content so they can release it a few months later.

Hell I read through the bios and I still have barely a grasp on who's who. That's what happens when you try to mix in real historical figures from Japanese history to a game that the average American will see as 'Dark Souls in Japan'.

inb4 poor cucked gamers

nevermind im late, these faggots need to be gassed

...

You alright user?

Isn't Nioh an actual exclusive like Bloodborne is?

Just play Dark Souls 3 with katana lol.

If it ever got a PC release, it wouldn't be in English. Sony published the game internationally while Koei-Tecmo published it in Japan.

They've constantly been nerfing katanas so it could only get harder for us here had to break-down and become a katana/spear player

Well William would be.

At least Axes and the Odachi are safe.

I guess Hanzo would be as well, at least for the initial scene you meet him.

Is this the Dragon's Dogma of Soulslikes?

Almost a third of the thread is driveby shitposting, I say keep it exclusive so everyone stays upset.

Figures they'd make the moth waifu dlc exclusive, inb4 she just gets a 5 sec cutscene and flies away again eager to try out the tonfa though.

What's that thing on his right hand in the 2nd pic?

It's a tengu fan. Legend has it that tengu use them to stir up great windstorms.
Whether it's an example of a new weapon type, like a war fan, or whether it's an item I don't know.

That's what confuses me. The DLC is supposed to add one new weapon class and that is the Tonfa, and no item is ever held like that as far as I can remember, unless they plan on adding more animations outside of the new weapon.

On a different note, I wasn't expecting the second DLC to come out this early, I'd just wish it wasn't going to explore a winter theme AGAIN. I think we've had enough snowy levels at this point.

I'm guessing it is an item that blasts an area with wind, kind of like the Hyottoko Mask
The last dlc takes place in the summer, so there's that at least.

Almost completed Way of the Demon.

Didn't really use anything too fancy either. Just the Kingo's set, a plus +10 lvl 200 Katana, and built to do damage from behind.
I happened to get lucky with the Katana and forge it with bonus IA quickdraw damage.

I heard that this new DLC would release another difficulty level, I honestly think its kind of unnecessary. While Way of the Demon is kind of fun because of the randomized red buffed enemies, I not sure what else they could really add to make it feel fresh because Way of the Strong was not nearly as interesting as Demon.

Also this game is far better than Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne, and I actually like bloodborne and was kind of meh with DaS3. Nioh is second right after Dark Soul in my book.
Buff Burd is best bird.

I was thinking of using dual katana as a backup weapon for the Odachi, should I?
I currently use the katana but it feels like I'm just using the same thing except smaller and I just switch between them when I feel like it instead of situational.

2kat is a good choice since you'll be pairing a light, fast weapon with a heavy, slow weapon. Alternately you could run an axe/Odachi build since axe is an anti youkai weapon and Odachi is an anti human weapon. Both axe and Odachi also benefit heavily from heavy armor so there's that too.

Thanks for the info.
Also fuck onyudo, they never fucking drop writhing tongues and I need them for forging.

Bumping to color this shit later

...

He was a shitty villain.

I wonder if we'll ever get a Nioh port to PC.

Make sure to equip luck accessories along with any summon spirits that increase luck like the spider. If you join the Furuta clan they give luck as well.

He still unleashed the evil.

I agree, I went back to playing Nioh pretty much immediately after beating Dark Souls 3. I don't like to compare Nioh with the Souls series since I think they're more different than most people give them credit for, but Nioh's combat is so much better while hitting other notes similarly well that I'd probably have to give it the edge. I still like DeS, the first Dark Souls and Bloodborne a lot though.

...

Probably in a year or so like usual.

True, he was shitty. Ishida and his crew were a lot better characters than Kelley and Dee.
However you can't deny the dude had the best boss theme in the game.

Blonde hair is hard to render for some reason. Always ends up looking yellow in lighting.

Nioh was going to be very different at one point.

That doesn't show anything? It might as well end up playing the same. Or being a shitty musou clone.
What we have today is probably the best possible outcome.

Leftover script from an Akira Kurosawa movie that never got made, his son and Koei wanted to adapt it in vidya form with Omega Force handling the game, but vaporware and things never got any direction, fast forward to 2010 where Koei merged with Tecmo they revived development slowly, they got Team NINJA to make the waifulicious gameplay and art design. Which is probably the best decision they ever made. Koei-side does the historical setting, story and art design while Tecmo-side does gameplay.

Yeah it's weird, though it looks pretty blonde in certain lighting conditions. At least his beard is blonde.

I still haven't got the Great Spear text, I'm not certain if you get it from centipede man before or after he's cured.

...

how u do that

Do what?

Dis fuggin game needs to be on PC. Motherfuckers. Fuck console exclusives.

It is

Nioh is just The Surge with swords.

You are wasting your fucking time when just using high stance normal attack is infinitely more efficient with the kusarigama. It depletes their ki faster and will proc the close combat bonus that are common on those weapons. Plus the strongest weapon class is the spear anyway.

yes, we need a DRM version that you pay to not own.

fuck off, stop killing the industry.

Been waiting for an appropriate thread to post this in. I had been playing Nioh on my housemate's PS4, got up to the fourth region in Way of the Demon when apparently the housemate ran into some kind of corrupt data issue and reinstalled the firmware. Of course it hadn't occurred to me to back up my save data because I'm a fucking moron, so there went all my progress. I'm still not sure if I'm willing to put all the time back into playing up to the next DLC.

That font

Wait for all the DLC, the new one is adding another difficulty level and probably only a few missions like the last one. I imagine the last dlc is going to do the same thing alongside any other patches that change shit around like how umbracite and anima stones have done.

Check the FAQ.

I sort of know how you feel. Grinding for certain things is so bad that I don't know if I would want to go through that again. But I agree with Every update seems to make it easier to acquire stuff due to higher difficulty modes, not to mention actual quality of life changes. Let me tell you grinding out rare kabutos was hellacious when I only had access to Way of the Ssamurai and Way of the Strong.

Did anima stones even do anything aside from give you weighted towards PvP shit?
also the drop rate on the max rank umbracite is obscenely low, it's awful.

Yep, that's Nioh for you.

Shit, I meant those ingots you can make to store amrita. To answer your question though no, that's all they do. Some of the skills do affect yokai and regular enemies though.

famitsu.com/news/201707/18137884.html
We're a week away.

Is that Sarutobi Sasuke (猿飛佐助) with the tonfas?

Yes I think so.

Better Quality.

So the moth girl is a wind spirit, also those tonfas look like they are going to be cool to use.

And it looks like that the Kirin is a fire spirit.
Now that I can see them up close it looks like they are going to have a Big-O kind of attack.

...

I honestly have a feeling that the moth waifu will join up with Maria, and we'll only get her then.

It's a consumeable item similar to the mask that breathes fire.

I really hope the DLC adds more female transformations. I really enjoy going around as Ginchiyo/Fuku/Okatsu and smashing faces.

This game really needs more fan art.

*This game really needs more fan art Fuku porn.

Needs more of Ginchiyo too. I really like her.

Plebs. :^)

Allegedly, Sasaki Kojirou will appear in this DLC. He was famous for using a nodachi. Could be a new weapon class.

I love her armor too. This picture doesn't do it justice. It doesn't show that wonderful electric blue sheen on the inner parts.

A Yuki-onna skin would be great.

A Hino-enma skin could work too, just nix the wings.

I think she and Okatsu are dressed the best. I love Fuku's outfit too but I really wish I could remove the hat.

I was a Yuki man, but after seeing her model up close and getting a look at those hips and thighs on Fuku, I knew she was the supreme choice.

Those hips and meant for dick.

Any of the more humanoid youkai would be doable I think and I'd love to see them.
Actually come to think of it there isn't a Danjo skin is there?

There isn't it would be cool if there was though

Does anyone have the manga to storytime?

We're almost there.

Also there's a stream of the new chapter starting 19 hours from now.

It would have been nice to know that there was accessories like this when I played the game the first time.

I'm want to find the helm in the second pic.

I think you can only get them on Way of the Strong or above since it's divine anyway. Be on the look out for more since they can drop randomly and check Tomoe's special finds after every mission too.

There's gonna be new Onmyo and Ninja skills with the next update.

Tonfas look super cool.

PC never?

Apparently Lady Yodo's gonna be in it, maybe? Lady Yodo is the daughter of Oichi, who is the younger sister of Nobunaga.

They just kinda showed a teaser at the end of the trailer without her turning around.

...

Those new elemental spells are going to be fun to use. The tonfa moveset reminds me of a mix between the dual swords and the kursarigama with some of those moves available to it. I hope they don't end up needing everything with the next balance patch.

The 1.14 patch is actually out right now.

Gonna check it right now. Wonder how much has been added/changed.

They've added the new onmyo and ninjutsu abilities and made an option to hide Anjin's utility belt.

Yeah, in the Onmyo Tree I'm seeing

Gradually saps your health but greatly increases close combat attack

Lowers defense but grants immunity to staggering.

Removes buffs/debuffs from an enemy.

They also added another level of elemental shots. Groundquake Mine, Thunderstorm Shot, Gale Shot, Geyser Shot, Explosive Shot.

For Ninjutsu…

I think that's new. Releases noxious gas when it exploded.

Causes your body to explode when your health is reduced to zero.

I don't have the DLC itself activated yet (needs to be on the store. It's not there yet for me) so I can't see tonfas.

Go back to Niohgaf

Also there's another rarity level? Orange.

Is it better than green?

It seems that way? I'm seeing it in the menu where you can customize the colours.

1 to 6 is white to green
7 is orange.

Oh son of a bitch I'm going to have to reacquire all my equipment again.

No kidding. The amount of stuff they've added to this game since launch is kind of insane, to the point that waiting for the GOTY edition would probably be the wisest decision. Hell, I haven't even finished Way of The Demon yet.

What could possibly be beyond a Divine weapon ?

Demonic? Mystic ala Warriors Orochi? Nioh tier?

One consolation is that I haven't really played since they added the new reforges and I think my specially built armor is obsolete anyway.
I am not looking forward to kawari kubuto grinding again though.

I probably won't even finish WOTD. I'll probably just play the WOTSam versions of all the expansions and then never touch the game for a long, long time.

I'm already feeling kinda burnt out. 150+ hours already.

I wonder how much luck people will need to get their orange sets from drops.

Wait until all the DLC is out

Well there is a new difficulty coming with the DLC. Way of Asura or something like that.

How much long until a GOTY edition happens?

We've got at least one more DLC to go before that.

Just a few hours until all our gear is obsolete!

Tonfas looking pretty great

They look like a strength type weapon, which is great, if the Samurai from Dark Lands set didn't require me to use a secondary weapon.

DLC is already out in Europe.

…But only to buy. Still not available to download.

...

When was that? I never had that chance.

During a sale a few weeks ago I think. That's when I got mine. It was below 60$ if I remember, something like 55$

Yasakani magatama, bro.

Spoilers, be warned.

Tonfa seems like a DEX weapon.

I wonder if we get pistols and shortswords next DLC.

Also what skins do we get with THIS DLC?

It scales with the same stats as the Kusarigama, except it's primarily Skill rather than Dex.
It's a really cool weapon, I just don't know what I should combine it with with my current build.

nice. still waiting on the white tiger of the west sice they have the other 3 directions.

We already have him.

What kinda bullshit ending is that? Seems like it's setting up a third DLC but weren't there just supposed to be two?

Last one is called Bloodshed's End.

OK then. Still feels a bit kosher to split the two. From what I've seen, this one looks a bit on the short side.
And again, more Sengoku drama than youkai.

Dragon of the North was incredibly short as well.

Thats not the white tiger, he only mutated into a tiger like chimera. There probably will be an actual white tiger, unless enko is supposed to be the white tiger.

The bestiary names the white tiger that Nekomata mutates into as Byakko.

Has anyone tried the new difficulty mode? How bullshit is it?

Did they finally add dual guns for william or are they going to do that later on?

Its kinda bullshit when a certain human enemy has an exclusive weapons that looks usable but is completely unobtainable. Or are we getting dual guns never ever??

I've not played enough to find out if we get them or not. I'm guessing we will eventually though.

Sanada has a pistol, so maybe next update.

Also Okatsu has a fighting style with a shortsword that we haven't gotten yet.

They didn't add it to this dlc, a new ranged weapon would be great though.

Well I'm enjoying tonfas. I wonder if they are suppose to be our "fist" weapon in this game?

It's pretty fun, a lot of enemies are flat replaced and new placements of said enemies.
It feels like a real NG+, bosses are probably the easiest part of Way of the Wise

Do they hit a lot harder than WotD enemies? Also how is the amrita gain?

Amrita gain is stupidly high, We're talking 400 million plus in like 20 minutes.
Enemies hit balls to the wall extremely hard, 8k+ a hit in my level 200+15 gear iga ninja so low defense but whatever

You can go unarmed and just with your fists in the game, there's ninjutsu skills that only work bare handed. but barring the last DLC adding shit like claws it'll probably be the "fist" weapon that you mean.

twitter.com/bk2128/status/890549728781377536

Nioh history.

Apparently there were 3 iterations. The first one was the original that was announced. The second one was never shown (until now), and the third is what we got.

those are climbing claws tho

They were the first thing that came up when I searched for japanese claw weapon.

Remembered the first one was supposed to be an adaptation of Akira Kurosawa's unfinished work about the real life William and gameplay was supposed to be musou gameplay with more customization back in 2005, man, quite the long way to go. And they should really stop teasing us about the pistols.

Well, I don't know how to make the Tonfa work in my ninja build. I had Kat+Kusa combo, then respecced to use Tonfa+Kusa, but the Kusarigama can do almost everything the Tonfa can, and probably better too. They're both low-ranged, rapid-hitting weapons.
I'm thinking of making a new build (again) using Spear+Tonfa, I think they'd complement each other well, especially since they scale to similar stats.
On that note, it would be nice if there was a way to distinguish between different save files. I already have 4/5 different builds and I can only rely on hours played.

I've been using Odachi + tonfa. I like how it works out.
I can't even imagine what the third DLC weapon will be or additional guardian spirits it will introduce.

I thought of that too. But I think the problem is that the stats would be too spread out considering the Odachi doesn't scale with any of the stats that the Tonfa does.

The only way I could justify it is having the odachi scale with dexterity, but even then that is best used as its own thing if you wanted to do a strength ninja build.

So is the second DLC longer than the first? If it's not I think I'll wait for the third to come out to play it.

Nunchucks.

Well I am wearing Tatenashi with a light helmet to give me B agility.

I wonder.

How do those bars that lets you store Amrita exactly ? If I store the Amrita do I lose any of it ? Are there any stipulations to retrieving it ?

Because I am way too powerful for Way of the Samurai, and I would like to play through the DLC at the suggested level, or perhaps a bit below it for added challenge.

That is fine too. I use medium armor for my strength ninja build, but the problem is my current odachi is not that good in my opinion since I do not have any stamina mods on it. It is that one that boosts lightning damage, but ti turned out to be pretty shit despite what my friends told me. Did the grind get any better for plus weapons and the correct enhancements you want?

I meant to say that I expect some sort of fist weapon.

Do we get the mothgirl waifu guardian in the second DLC?

Yes on both accounts. The higher difficulty levels drop good pluses like candy and umbracite lets you choose enhancements from a list. Of course you have to work for umbracite a bit, but since it's a material you can craft higher level umbracite from lower level.

Where do you get umbracite? I kind of quit the game since I got tired of trying to craft more A scaling weapons. Same thing with plus items. I burnt out after learning I would have to grind another odachi again or some other weapon. I might actually switch to tonfa just to see how it works.

What about orange rarity? How does one get that? Does that have plus enhancements too?

I've not played much myself but you can get it from twilight missions and from co-op I think. And I think you can get it from clan donation rewards too.

Those drop on NG+++ (Way of the Wise I think it's called) Apparently they come with their own special set bonuses.

Don't believe so. I have a feeling it's Maria's guardian. So we'll probably get that (and her transformation) for the 3rd DLC

The more patronage you invested in Muramasa's Silabar Ingots feature, the more it stores.

I think the first level stores 70% of your amrita into an ingot. The last level stores 99%. You can check Muramasa's upgrade menu to see which level you're on.

Thanks, I guess I got to put some points into it.

It's Otani Yoshitsugu's guardian; Sanada Yukimura mentions him ("father-in-law") as she pops up.
And, more convincingly, there's the official art pairing them.

So it'll jump through family members then?

Can't rightly say but Yoshitsugu and Yukimura have that familial bond and they're both in the pro-Toyotomi faction.
Judging by the finale, the bosses for the last DLC are likely going to be Toyotomi Hideyori, Yodo-gimi and Lady Maria of the Amrita Storehouse; the first two are probably going to turn into monsters, Hideyori likely a Amrita roid-raging swordsman. Also betting on Kimura Shigenari for the mandatory honorobru dueru boss fight.

Just wait for the third.

I wonder if we'll get a Yodo skin. I mean, we got Edward.

I'd like to know once and for all whether smithing texts or rare items drop better on higher difficulty levels or not.

I haven't found that either of those dropped better at higher difficulties. The items you get have better stats, but luck and the drop rates are what usually decide smiting texts and other items.

I can't chase people down in pvp worth shit. But every trade is in my favor.

Learn tiger running scroll and wear an Onikaba in your second weapon slot and a Yasakani.

Apparently there's a 1.15 patch now.

Tried farming for Sarutobi's set but I can't do it.

I think I'm officially burnt out. Maybe I'll pick up the game next DLC

wew

web-japan.org/museum/others/ninja/ninja03/wisdom02.html

I feel I should post these.

I would love to play a ninja procedural game.

Did you ever color it?
