You shouldn't think that, friend! The masses are not retarded, they're just misguided. One of the most important roles of the socialist is to understand and educate. Even if it seems to bear no fruit in the moment, a lot of times a polite and respectful conversation is all it takes for many people to be that much more sympathetic to the cause.

The left is basically a death cult. There's a reason why so many activists commit suicide, and why we have so much trouble recruiting. No one wants to live in a world where they see injustice and oppression at every corner. All while what seems like no progress is made, even after one dedicates their entire life trying to fight what seems like is an indestructible behemoth of a machine. Maybe you even see regression. You also feel alienated as you separate yourself from mainstream views. You may not even know anyone else that shares them in your real life. So you end up carrying that burden of knowledge alone.

This is a very accurate post and describes my situation and I'm sure many others' on here very well.
I remember reading a David Graeber essay where he said there's a very prominent "keep fighting the good fight mentality" which almost acknowledges that we're gonna lose and sees the Sisyphus style struggle that the left is involved in, but nonetheless we soldier on. Because what else can we do? You can't unsee the destructive flaws within capitalism. Especially when they're making your life miserable every day and destroying your very being.
