Bad Vidya Music

It's pretty common to make a thread about good vidya music. How about we have a thread about awful music in vidya?

Getting the obvious out of the way I like it though

Most bad video game music is forgetful to be honest, hence why it's bad.

Why is it that remakes of classic Japanese games seem to have terrible buttrock arrangements of the original songs?

Can't have a shit OST thread without this masterpiece

anime with dubstep
The only thing its missing is memes and weed references

This was a c64 title tune for a game released at full price by SSI, a well known company at the time. If this had come out in 1984 it wouldn't irk me so much, but the game and the tune were done in 1991. 19-fucking-91, when composers like Rob Hubbard, Martin Galway, the Maniacs of Noise and many others had pretty much gotten the most out of the SID chip for *years*. Shameful.

This isn't bad.

Armored Armadillo is the garbage one.

The whole soundtrack had this unique vibe going on, but this song is just too atonal for its own good.

It starts off as some good ZUNTATA stuff, but then the vocalists kick in and it becomes incomprehensible.

...

This one

...

Ye it's shit.

Posting a classic. More cringe than technically 'bad'. Misguided. May actually be fairly decent as an instrumental.

I almost thought you'd found that on SilvaGunner's channel, how is that real?

MeMeMe is fantastic, it gets to stay

This is like when you get a shit /mu/ thread where everyone busts nuts over microtonal guitar playing and you wonder what caused their very specific brain damage.

...

The remaster killed this one dead.

Her 3rd Strike theme is excellent but this one is garbage.

...

...

...

I never slammed Start harder in my entire life.

...

Persona was never good. You wouldn't see this faggot shit in SMT.

YO HOLD UP

...

...

There are way more problems than weeb music, like the fact they could play a song in 5/4 after playing instruments for two days total, shitty English words that never rhyme, the fact that it's horribly animated, everything about this scene just swirls into a shit stew that is hands down the absolute worst part of Persona 4, other than the SUPER HUGE TWIST that the gas station lady was somebody evil.

Can't find it by itself but the Title Screen is enough

What the fuck happened

Artoon/Arzest.

Who are working on the Pikmin 3DS game.

How do you fuck up music this badly?

Oh shit, I'm sorry.
Fucking hate this one. It's so tedious and the only good bit near the end is a ripoff of Guile's theme.

But that's the best track in the game.

I can't bring myself to hate it especially because of this.

come on, it's not that bad user

I enjoy that song just for all the memories I have of playing ever grace

...

Capping two gangsta niggers with that shit playing was hilarious

FUCK YOU

Does gloriously shitty count? I love this stupid fucking song.

But that and Positive Force are actually decent songs?

Who the fuck thought it was a good idea to put this song in every trailer?

I can't agree on the Sonic thing, partially because I think Sonic R is actually really fun, and also because I love that style of music. I think it's because of my parents.

I believe someone stole the music like, 2 months before release. That whole game had a tortured development.

It's the games leitmotif dumbass, it's what the final song is based on

...

Was it intentional though? Maybe the instrument patch was accidentally changed to trombones?

DUDE WEED LMAO - Jason Brody

I feel like the only person with nostalgia for Sonic R. I mean the music wasn't really good but it had charm.

...

I think you meant RAD

...

That sounds like when you're playing a shitty flash game, and you go to the main menu, but the background music doesn't stop, but now the menu music is playing too.

Pretty much everything.

...

Sorry I only have God tier music.

IT'S IN THE HOLE

THAT'S HUGE

Holy shit that's horrible.

...

[FARTS INTENSIFY]

It was intentional. It was composed by someone who was pretending to be deaf to become more famous. Kids who grew up with the Dual Shock edition grew up with hilariously bad music throughout.

It almost sounds like something though.

The song itself is alright, but the singing. Just why.

This is amazing.

...

...

...

Shit like this makes me think "fuck the Gameboy", but then I remember that it can also make stuff like this.

...

I actually unironically like this a bit. Some of those times hit in the exact right spots in my brain

if you must listen to a C64 rendition of Axel F listen to this instead.

Well if you play it at like 25% volume it's still based on a good song.

don't forget the Turok gameboy games.

And the Smurfs.

Oh god I forgot all about this masterpiece. I miss when EA had fun with their sports games

...

Still good, but it was something about the other one. The tones were SHARP, you could fucking feel it.

Gawd awful music (and pretty horrible sound design in general) on this one.

Hope you like hearing this trainwreck every 30 seconds.

...

I hate this area so much for multiple reasons.
Xenoblade chronicles usually had a good soundtrack but this one is godawful.

"Because pinball should hurt."

It is a massive insult to Hideki Naganuma that his music was put alongside this abomination.

This game made me dislike Bioware.

...

Sounds a lot worst on the Sega Smash Pack version which sounds better than the most popular genesis emulator for years which is GENS.

It gets *worse*?!?! I honestly can't decide whether I want to hear that or not…

listen to the amiga version

or the crystal dream version, which starts at 2:29

Fuck everything about that game.

Seriously. Does this look like a boss fight? Why does he have a stupid hat and suspenders?

I think I like this one best, because it adds that extra little bit to the song.

I'm guessing that this is one of those songs that's bad alone, but makes sense in context. Embedded related is just like that.

It's what makes the game playable at all.

While I can get it if the opening tracks aren't your cup of tea, the vast majority of God Eater's OST is fucking amazing. So don't discredit it.

This is what happens when you outsource
Seems they learned their lesson after the first two evolution games too, and every evolution after had the arrangements done in house

speaking of remakes

A bit of cheating, but Game Genies would sometimes mess with data in the wrong way just having it attached

I like it in a it would be a cool track for a glitch themed megaman level.

getout

the music in sonic chronicles is all stolen midi files from the internet

DEY PROLLY SHOT BLACKS

as an instrumental it's pretty good (the instrumental versions of all songs are available as separate tracks on sonic R's disc).
Its instrumental version was also adapted into Sanic Racing Transformed's soundtrack along with Back in Time

Kill yourself you fucking nigger faggot

You can die too nigger lover.

Crazybus is not a game at all. It's a test program for a compiler.

That's a repro cart, obviously.

who would spend so much effort on such a shitty thing

There is no limit to what people will do for the lulz.

It's supposed to be deep/meaningful/sorrowful because he's a friend of the family and also the father of your maybe-girlfriend. Also, Chrono Trigger loreshit.

the worst part about that is that the map music in any location you could fight in was already perfect for combat in that location. No need for changing songs

reminds me of this

Also apparently I'm a retard and can't embed.

Does this have something to do with those goddamn dragon gods that didn't exist in the last game?

Great taste in music, Cibo Matto is pretty great. I actually like the Birrthday Cake song despite the loudness.

They botched the music in the genesis version of this bad spiderman game with music by the Follin brothers.

Here is the Snes version for comparison.

Also the Follin brothers didn't do the music porting to Genesis also.

You just post the link from the youtube URI in the embed when posting

There's literally nothing wrong with that battle theme. This shit on the otherhand made me stop playing Hishigami singlehandedly

Yes, IIRC they had outsourced the music, but apparently there was some trouble and they wouldn't have gotten most of the music in time to ship the game, so they just stole fan midis off the internet and just hastily converted it to work with their game.

If you want an idea of what the original music was like try looking up the battle music, all of that is original stuff.

yeah, it's pretty shit

aside from the innuendo at the beginning, the actual music is funky as fuck

This is why Holla Forums is shit. You guys can't even follow simple instructions.

But user, that's good music too.
This is bad vidya music.

Honestly the battle music is still fucking terrible. It's only a slight notch above the green hill zone track in the OP. I'm no music critic, but the word I would use to describe it is "directionless"

Fuck you, here's some good music.

Hence why i posted it. Could you tell that those songs were also suppose to be remixes of the early sonic music? That was the plan, anyways, until SEGA told them to change it.

Nigger, GENS is complete shit, use Kega Fusion.

No, only use Kega Fusion for 32X emulation and also Kega Fusion needs fixes on win 8 and higher.

Genesis Plus GX in retroarch is the best all around genesis emulator with use of a low pass filter and shit tv filter.

you didn't even post the right song.

...

that's not so bad. just sorta wish they laid off the techn- wat happened at 0:58.

WHY

Actually if this was slowed down a bit it would sound pretty decent

...

It's too bad these guys did music for licensed garbage and bad ports almost exclusively.

i think it was a stretch goal. but it's just so cringy

I don't remember this live performance. Wait, I do, I just said "whatever" and didn't pay attention to it.

You have shit tastes and your time is up, faggot

Chrono Cross had a great soundtrack
The game was just ok at best.
It should be ashamed to bear the Chrono on its title because Chrono Trigger was excellent in every way. This is a dishonor as a sequel

well you remember the game's dev cycle right?
Basically they had the game finished and then "GUYS MAKE IT A SEQUEL TO CHRONO TRIGGER"

Pretty much most of this soundtrack

Just remembered this beautiful peace of cringe exists.

Have any of you noticed how that shit in particular literally sounds like butchered Xtreme Sports music all the way back from GBC?

I must rectify this.

It seems a literal unnecessarily serious and intimidating for average battles as well as kind of weirdly chaotic, but not completely terrible, just a little off in some way I can't put my finger on.

Also, this boss music is actually pretty good. I think this is a track that knows what it's trying to be. As in "time for a tough fight, get pumped up, you can do this".

I don't think the battle music is shit entirely, but I do agree with a lot of it seeming out of place and "directionless". I do think at least a handful of tracks are enjoyable to listen to and do work for battles. Just that they're too randomized for no reason and feel completely different from each other. It's so bizzare the way the battle music was handled.

Also, this seems solid as well, but out of place as fuck.

Should have been used for bosses they're screaming is difficult with generally more to the track to make it flow and feel as such and stronger atmosphere.

Explain.

Don't you remember this? And the piece of ass in it that probably gave kids their first boner? I remember this indescribable feeling of liking what I saw about her and other NPCs when I was less than fucking 8. It was almost like the dick had prematurely awakened, but couldn't yet rise.

They even gave her a noticeable pixelated rack ingame.

Nah, I was stuck to second hand Dave Mirra BMX games and Batman for my portable gaming.

This entire soundtrack was an echoey fucking mess. The sound direction since black 2 white 2 has been extremely questionable for me.
It took them until sun and moon to make compositions that are half-decent, and half-decent it stays.

...

Kalos Gym Leader, Team Flare, Xerneas and Yveltal, Kalos E4 Primals, Rayquaza and Deoxys all had solid themes.

You niggas work fast.

No.
No.
Xerneas and Yveltal
Yes, but it was underwhelming.
Fuck no.
Nuh-uh nigga.
Only good one there. I'd say Zinnia, but another user ruined it for me by showing me it ripped off Touhou.

For a splitsecond, I thought that was going to turn into the Autism Song. **Where is that piece from, anyway?

The RIDING A HORSE music in Breath of the Wild was fucking awful.
A thousand years of suffering to whoever thought this was a good idea.

This soundtrack killed me inside.

You sound like a faggot with no argument that isn't "I don't like it, so it's shit". And Zinnia is just a ripoff of post BBS Kingdom Hearts music by Yoko herself.

You're wrong. I remember getting into that chamber that kept falling and hearing this and I thought "wow I wasn't expecting this being so epic". I feel so proud of actually paying for this minimalistic game.

I don't like it either.

This one should't be on the soundtrack. It's just the incoherent noises from a dimension you shouldn't even be in, so it makes sense that we perceive it as something offensive.
First time I heard it on headphones, nice ear-rape.

As the others posted, fuck yourself

Sonic R music is why you play the game aside from enjoyable enough racing on foot, faggot.

This song complements nicely the horribleness of the cave stages.

It's just not faithful to the original. It sounds too distant, and not in the kickass way HG/SS had it executed, but in the way that the man in charge of sound design thought "Hey! Know what would make this GOOD? If I strip away the original feeling the older games had and insert my own super vibe". Which really killed it, for this specific soundtrack. Not to mention the reason it has a different vibe is because the source was no longer an SC-55. Now rather, some plug-in program that anyone can use. To add the cherry on top, the fan on vid related does a better job at keeping the original vibe, even with the exact same XYORAS library. So I personally don't think it's the sources themselves, BUT the overall direction of said compositions.

It doesn't help that the past 2 gens have had really mediocre battle music, I can't get pumped listening to the XY/SM battle music. It sounds too damn friendly. There is no feel of danger, mate.

What I'm saying is, most of it (Granted, not all) sounds like a rushed, synthetic pile of gruel, rather a polished, perfected musical masterpiece.

I would have preferred them use real instruments this time around, but they couldn't do it. No idea why. They have that ability now. They use an orchestra for Black2White2, I see no reason why they couldn't here.

Hope you understand.

It's from a game called Monty on the Run

Another fan composition I like.

For the MAIN Title Theme of Black2White2, not the entire game. My bad.

what the fuck? sounds like some low effort art game shit.

It works really well as ambience, especially with all the echo effects and ambient noises.

It's not that the rest of the soundtrack is much better.
(The music that sounds while fighting the water Divine Beast was good, though).

I just clicked through a few related videos on youtube and if you told me this was the soundtrack to Fez I'd believe you. What happened to the triumphant marching overworld themes or combat music that actually sounds like combat?

There was a soundtrack to this game? all i remember from it besides ambiance was someone just randomly pressing distorted piano keys.

there's some terrible music in this game that doesn't fit zelda at all

it would work in something else, just not here

And the tracks in particular I'm talking about don't have that problem.

The new sound and direction actually works with the Gym Leaders, and especially the Elite Four and evil team. All I'm saying is that they're not shit. The Primals and Rayquaza do a great job of remastering the original theme for those Legendaries and the former brilliantly blends old and new together while the latter gives him his own special thundering rendition of it.

And for the record, I'm not talking about Lysandre, I'm talking about the standard one for the grunts.

Is that music for the new splatoon game?

Did you have a tiny stroke? It started at :54.

It somehow reminds me of Epic Yarn

Really? I kinda liked that. It carries the idea of a mechanised menace pretty well to my ears.

Sounds more like music for a stroll across a grassy hill or field than a horseback ride. Not bad, but unsuited.

user, I did a quick search for xtreme sports porn and found this: rule34.xxx/index.php?page=post&s=list&tags=xtreme_sports

You could have mentioned the Magma/Aqua leader themes, Verdanturf town, Drought, Heavy Rain and Mt. Pyre. Those specific compositions nailed the exact feeling I wanted while being true to their roots, they gave tribute to their older themes perfectly. The Deoxys Vs. Rayquaza theme was very good too. (For a second, I thought Rayquaza had a different theme entirely, sorry about that)

Here are songs that don't feel too loyal to their original counterparts.

Mt. Chimney (It's now funk-ish, instead of sounding like a marching band. My expectations were trashed.)
Route 113 (Now has a very obvious electronic synth instead of strings, whole thing felt very lazy to me.)
Trainer's School (Different Piano altogether instead of the RSFRLG/E one, It's a small nitpick, but you can certainly hear the difference. Gives a more "Ballet" feeling than a "Teachy" one.)
Route 110 (Weak bells/, lack of depth and rumble. This applies to other routes as well)
Dive (Fuck that triangle. It starts off too early. Flutes are nearly non-existent, and it also suffers from lack of depth, now instead of sounding adventurous and whimsical. It now sounds shallow, like an anemic fan composition. Though, I will add props to that excellent subtle synth added right at 1:09. It is very accordion-like, the perfect placement of the harp also does it some justice)
Cave of Origin (Like most of these tracks, you just don't feel the atmosphere suck you in anymore. They fucked up so bad with the harps, arpeggio's have been completely altered and/or removed in the new version. Listen at about the 28th second to know what I mean. That archaic/ethereal feeling was completely destroyed. All I could imagine was a stressed asian man playing this in computer, seeing if it 'Sounds Right'.)

I would have preferred they composed different covers, for example; Fortree City & The Hidden Base, Sea Mauville & Southern Island. All of those have two different variations.
Though, the problem would be where to use them, and that's when we start reaching into content territory, which is off topic to this. In your defense, It's good they added new themes. More is always better.

I really didn't favor the Gym/E4 themes for X/Y, nor the BW E4 themes for that matter. They're good, they really are! They just don't fit with a gym leader. Sun/Moon though, captures them perfectly, only the E4 Kahuna theme was subpar. SM E4 has that tension, that intensity you look for when fighting the toughest class of trainers in the whole region. It's extremely memorable.

Though, I agree with you that the grunts theme for XY sounds fine as is, I have no actual critique of it, since it's an entirely new composition. I personally don't favor the Groudon/Kyogre/Rayquza themes due to the same issue of power and deep rumble, I was happy that they made them 'Intimidating' like Fused Kyurem, but as I said before, I still wish the bass hit harder, guess those are the limits of synthetic instruments.
I would have preferred they added onto it, than start from scratch and use entirely different compositions. It's a very delicate thing to do when balancing this out.

It's all a matter of personal taste, really. If you feel like the newer renditions are better, then more power to you! There is nothing to stop you from enjoying these new pieces! Personally, though. I don't think this is GF's best work.

I have many, many more critiques about this, and those critiques are JUST the music alone. I won't bother typing anymore, because ALL of my complaints would have enough information to fill up to three book.
Anyways, thanks for your time, and for reading. Here is a gift.

mega.nz/#!8Bo0RDxZ!B4ciyeD7bh3RcYfHTov9CZAWXZhdW0ENzns5oh0_Huo
Have a wonderful day.

...

WEBM. Now.

ok

Oh. Wow. Thanks for delivering!

This fits too well.

You seem rather on top of this musical analysis. What did you make of BW2's individual Gym themes? I'm fond of the idea, I just want it executed well if done again.

Objectively the best track.

LIVING IN THE CITY
YOU KNOW YOU HAVE TO SURVIVE
YOU HAVE TO KEEP THAT DREAM ALIVE
WHERE EVERYTHING IS FREE, CAN'T YOU SEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I'd be more than happy to have each individual gym leader have their own theme, if that's what you're asking. If you make them as varied as possible, there's a bigger chance they'll have a stronger impact on each individual player. Leaving their unique print on them, and making each said player want more out of either 8 or 16 distinct gym leaders . That IS, if the writers and character designers also follow through with good character development, astute, cutting edge design and overall representation for each gym leader as a sort of "Mascot" for each Pokemon typing in that specific game

I want the Pokemon Gyms to have an entirely new composition too, which is what you originally meant, but I extended my answer. Instead of re-using the same one since red and blue. This is a good example, I used NTR to mod the example song into ORAS. Unfortunately, I was not able to make each gym have a different tune, so they all had this one.
Hope that helps.

Now I realized I completely went over your question. What I thought was that it was fine, It was something new, and it made me excited. If every region had its Pokemon Gym have a different theme, then I'd favor it very much. To fix my last error. The Gym leader design has been good, I just think It's the artstyle itself that is something that has bothered me somewhat since Sinnoh. This next suggestion isn't for the gym leaders anymore, but I remembered it just now, so I might as well mention it. I want you to be able, at the very least, customize your trainer to look like the older, original pokemon games, eyes, height and all.
So when you start the game and the Prof asks for your Sex/Skin Tone/Name/Etc, you are given Four more options, which follows by age.
9 (Classic Design)
10 (GBA Designs)
11 (Modern Designs)
12 (Who knows)

As always, I'm getting sidetracked from the theme of this thread, so I'll really stop with my miscellaneous ideas and focus only on sound.

And this

Hah, you really have put some thought into this.

Hmm. Why don't we make another thread for this sort of thing? Because I'm having musical visions of how you could reimagine the Kanto Gyms and Leaders, and I don't think it'd be proper to clutter up a thread on bad and/or unsuited music with OC and other unrelated stuff.

Even the genesis has great sounding music if it's used well, you can't simply discard an entire system because of a few bad eggs.

Sure, but I have no instruments on me right now.
FL Studio, for our own compositions? It's compatible with the plug-ins GF uses, you can use the original instruments though, or try all new instruments to remaster DS mixes.
I have some MIDI's converted straight from the Black2White2 sequences if you'd like them.

This. Gimmick for the NES was great. While other projects were lazy.

Forgot to add, skip straight to the 28th second in the video as well.
visit hcs64.com as well

I am but an amateur writefag dreams of learning the piano to play Raindrops nevertheless with an ear for music, so while I thank you for the tools, I'll have to pass. Still, MIDIs would be cool.

You can learn it in your keyboard, user. Search for that shit!

I remember seeing somebody saying this on halfchan a while ago too, what the fuck

Keep this shit taste over there, don't bring it here

This works well in context but by itself it's shit.

XY's soundtrack is great but this is such an awful example of it's good songs aside from xerneas/yvetal

Here's some of the actual good ones

...

Makes me think of Seventh Doctor Doctor Who episodes.

Listening to it on the train now, I noticed it only makes my brain feel good when I hear it through my left ear. Maybe I do have brain damage.

Hmm. Hadn't thought of that. That's another thing I'll have to look after in my spare time. Ever since I watched that one filler episode of The Big O with that pianist robot, I've always had a fascination for the piece. It's enough to make me stop whatever I'm doing and listen whenever it comes on the radio.

And now, to make up for blogposting…

Anyone have the standard combat music for this game?

How the fuck did someone screw up one of my favorite songs from sonic 3d blast like this?!?!?!

Nigger, did you even play the game?

oh no

doctor connor's class

Ultimate Spider-Man > Spider-Man 2

I always liked Potential for Anything as well from VVVVVV's soundtrack (I think they call it PPPPPP). It's just such a positive and upbeat song.

No, faggot, that's why I'm asking. I caught a snippet once, and it was annoying as hell.

Nothing i can do for shit taste, sorry.

For music with direction I think Battle 4 for Sonic Chronicles is the best track in the game. It's a theme I can listen to for turn-based battles.

But yeah, overworld tracks are shit.

That ended surprisingly pleasant.

The Gym Leaders, Team, Legendaries and Elite Four are going to have the highest standard for their music and XY tried something new with its Gyms that wasn't bad, just different while still being energizing and motivating.

Team Flare and the Elite Four are definitely solid tracks overall that take new musical sensibilities like guitar and make them work perfectly for atmosphere and intensity, especially recognisability for the former.

I've got to commission this stuff.

...

After listening to the song for a while in Hyrule Field, I've ended up really liking it. After you notice the subtle Zelda's Lullaby in there you get reminded why you're even having your adventure in the first place.

It's not great, but it's definitely serviceable

Turns out that combining the themes of 3 different bosses into a single theme is not the best idea.

Capcom has been making awful awful fucking music lately.
Same thing happened to MMX8 (Jacob's elevator was one glaring exception) and the new Street Fighter games.

All of Street Fighter 4's music is fucking garbage.

Why?
What's wrong with that song?
Did you read the part where OP said post BAD music?

But none of that marylin manson shit was actually in the game, and inon zur actually did a good job with the ost.

Don't forget Hirohiko Araki! Maybe.

I'd actually really like to have a copy of the Evergrace soundtrack, if one could ever be dug up or fully uploaded.

as someone who owns the game, you really dont hear all the extra crap and the pitch is off compared to when you play it.

HE JUST STOLE THAT GUY'S PIZZAS

Laverre City and Route 15 are fucking amazing. The rest are pretty damn forgettable.

WEW

FUCK OFF WITH THIS BAIT

Most of the music in this game was great IMO. I especially liked the "NYC Streets" music from Hell's Kitchen.

But man, the music that hits you right when you open the game is complete shit-tier.

Is there more shitty music that sounds like it could go in gay porn?

I'll concede that the ost had, like, three good songs in it. This isn't one of them.

...

How did they fuck up the boss music this badly?

I think it's pretty good. Why do you think it's bad?

Embed related is fine the first time you hear it but it gets old and really fast. Ultima V has a pretty good soundtrack for it's time that's completely ruined by constantly playing the same songs over and over again.

unless I'm misremembering that track only plays at the very end when you save Lord British.

I FORGOT ABOUT THIS

I might've mixed it up with Ultima VI. I always mix those two up. I'm pretty sure both games have that tune.

Has there ever been an older reacion image other than teh rei?

Why am I getting Shantae viebs from this?

you're definitely thinking of 6.

Apparently, it's the same developer.

It sounds like it's being played out of small speakers with no bass, even though it's not.

It's like it's supposed to be all dramatic and shit, but just comes off kind of flat and silly-sounding. Like it's a direct-to-video sci-fi movie, and the guy next to you on the bus is watching it on a portable DVD player (and isn't using headphones).

Nigger, you posted shitty encode.

It's a shitty song, the encode doesn't really matter.

I swear, that synth hook that comes in around 30 seconds is just chalk in a cheese grater.

You're a faggot
Your taste is like nigger dick in your mom's vagina

lmao, well that settles it.

This song is the best kind of bad, honestly. I love it.

Fuck i finally found it

If anyone remembers Okami-Den, I wouldn't blame you if you didn't, This fucking song played like every 5 fucking seconds.

That is fucking brutal dude.

That'll teach ya to cheat.
