Episode 1 definitely was, but I wouldn't really call episode 2 shovelware. They really improved it over the previous episode, more than if the game was just meant to be a cheap throwaway title. Unlike episode 1, its biggest problem was Dimps level design.

The comics post-reboot really took whatever they could. They brought in Von Schlemmer. They brought in fucking Madonna, and unused character concept for Sonic's love interest from before the first game was made.

Sonics been over for a few years now, the cartoon is now relegated to a Rerun channel nobody watches, their big mobile app Sonic runners fell flat on it's fucking face, and even the fucking comic just got shitcanned without warning.

That's what happens when you fill your comic up with ORIGINAL the CHARACTER do not steals and you don't make the spergs who write that shit sign a contract.

Almost all of Ken Penders' original the characters weren't worth reusing anyhow. Probably if they'd been able to keep the fifty billion echidnas then most of them would hit the shit or Knuckles and everything surrounding him would be heavily rewritten or omitted. There's a reason nobody considers Penders a pinnacle of literary triumph and nobody is interested in his rebranded and un-Sonic'd version of his story after he left/was fired by Archie.

Honestly, I think Ian always wanted to do it, he just didn't have much opportunity when writing with a universe that already had a ton of characters to use.

Blaze is a mega Mary Sue. She's her universe's version of Sonic and also her universe's version of Knuckles and also she's a princess and also she has fire powers but she's not perfect because she has a dark personality and is really super serious. It's like she was created by DeviantArt.

Even if we ignore that, you're gonna say she's better than Metal Sonic, Knuckles, and Shadow? Maybe better than Mighty. Maybe. But that's it.

They did make him sign a contract. The original (but not photocopies) mysteriously "disappeared" right around the time Penders quit, after he was demoted back to inker.

Also, all of those characters were fucking garbage, and the comic suffered greatly from having practically nothing to do with the games. The comics now are what they should have been the entire time, or at least a lot closer.

Flynn was too autistic to just throw away characters, he kept trying to fix them. But they were just too shit. He made a lot of them a lot better, but it wasn't worth it. Especially when they just took focus from characters that were actually in the source material.

But the world doesn't revolve around her, which is the primary attribute of a Mary Sue. She may be all those things (except the dark personality and super serious part, not sure where you got that from) but the only one that really matters in defining her character are the Sonic and fire powers part. She's only part-Knuckles so they could have more emerald macguffins for Rush. Being a princess is just a label that never has any importance, and could be completely dropped without affecting any of the games.

The point of that game is that you choose how Shadow acts. You can explore all sorts of different decisions he can make, and then trough this and exploring more of his past, he learns to not be as edgy as he was before.

All that means is that those are iterations of Shadow that SEGA says could exist. He has/had the potential to be like that. And he still canonically tried to wipe out humanity in a revenge plot. And don't say he switched sides at the last minute, making it not edgy. He didn't gain some inherent morality that said killing people is bad. He only went back on his plan because he suddenly remembered his dead girlfriend didn't want that. He was completely willing to do horrible things as long as he felt it was what Maria wanted.

Naw, he was edgy as fuck, but then Shadow the Hedgehog was about him learning to not be an edgy faggot anymore. Then in '06, look at that, he's not edgy. Kinda stoic, but not edgy.

He was mad that everyone he ever knew including his only friend, an innocent kid, was killed by the government, and thought his mission, which of course you could see why he would be angry enough to carry out, was to destroy the world in revenge. He eventually realizes that's pretty fucked up when he realizes that the person he was getting revenge for wouldn't want that in the first place. It's not like this is the first revenge story to end like that.

And Blaze is pretty good friends with the cast, now, and has learned to be more open toward people. We're still comparing someone a cat who had a little trouble trusting others in her first appearance, but later learned the importance of having friends that can back you up, to a hedgehog who tried to destroy the world, later got up to all sorts of dark shit including having amnesia, and eventually learned to be not quite as edgy while still being a grumpy gus who doesn't enjoy being around people much and enjoys fighting Sonic for the hell of it.

Just saiyan, for as much as people shit on Shadow for being an even cooler Sonic than Sonic, at least he has justifications for it, plus the end result is him realizing he's not better than Sonic and that Sonic might be the real Ultimate Life Form (with the implication that Shadow may have been based on him, or the prophecy of him, in the first place, making him just a Shadow of Sonic). Blaze is an alt Sonic, which is cool and all, but then with all this extra shit piled on top to make her cooler, and without the depth and caveats that Shadow has (and yes, it's funny to say Shadow's story has depth, but it honestly does). With Blaze it's just played straight.

I'd much rather see the comic expand previously existing characters than just use the shit OCs that didn't even pretend to have anything to do with Sonic or its world. The fact that they actually use these obscure characters is what makes the comic fun.

But Blaze isn't really treated as being cooler than Sonic. What makes Sonic cool isn't his abilities, but his attitude. Blaze is just another playable character that they gave some backstory in order to differentiate her from Sonic. She has fire powers so you aren't just playing another Sonic. She's protector of the Sol Emeralds so they can have Sol Emeralds in the first place, and so she's not just a drifter like Sonic. She's a princess to, I don't know, explain the way she dresses. Seriously, they've done nothing with the princess bit, and it might as well not be there. I swear if you're fucking Sparky I'm gonna end myself.

If you'll like any of them, you'll probably like 2 and 3&K. Those are generally regarded as the best. 1 isn't bad, but suffers from being the first before they really knew what they were doing. CD is very divisive. You'll either love it or hate it. The Adventure games are fun at the good parts, but they're very janky, and a lot of people don't like the extra characters. Heroes has a neat concept, but just goes on for way too long, if you want the true final boss and ending. Shadow is the Sonic/Shadow portions Adventure games, but with guns and level objectives. '06 is a travesty that can only be enjoyed for how much of a trainwreck it is. Unleashed is divisive. Most people agree the daytime stages are good, but opinions on the Werehog stages range from completely awful to not terrible. Colors is almost universally liked. Generations, too. Lost World has more unfavorable opinions towards it than favorable ones.

Keep in mind, I've only gone through what are considered the "main" games.

Plenty are worth playing. Only a couple are bad, even including the spinoffs.

Almost all are good to great. Most people agree that Sonic 3 & Knuckles is the best. Some fags say Sonic CD, and nostalgiafags who never played it the most when they were kids say Sonic 2.

Adventure 1 is a pretty good Adventure game with a cool way to present its story

Starting with Unleashed they did a new form of 3D platformers that were less like 3D versions of the old games are almost a mix of racing and platforming. These games also have lots of 2D sections. Most people agree that Generations is the best one. I personally think Unleashed is.

Tails Adventure for Game Gear is also a very good Metroid-style adventure game.

Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing Transformed is the best kart racer in recent years.

Sonic R is an interesting early kart racer with platforming influence and the best soundtrack ever made.

Nearly all of the other games are still good, but these ones are probably the best. You've already heard of the ones that aren't good. Even some of the ones people bitch about, like Heroes and Shadow, are still playable, just not great.

I only got through Battle by grinding to max at the beginning (one particular mission makes this very easy) and basically removing all the RPG elements from the game. Even then the gameplay is incredibly awkward, but if you're autistic, it has a neat story.

Sonic the Fighters is a better fighting game, though of course it's a very different kind of fighting game.

These are decent descriptions. If you've played the main games, you should check the spinoffs. The Game Gear games are very good, except Blast. Spinball is awesome. Riders is good.
