PS3 is still free, and there were a few online games in the 6th gen that didn't require any purchases, but back then the internet wasn't as widespread as it is, so the games for internet capable consoles were very few in number.

Both major consoles are what, 40 a year when you get it on sale along with monthly games so it ends up paying for itself assuming you like at least a few of the games that are free? Its not exactly the end of the world for a paid luxury.

You know what? I would totally pay for online it there was quality control. Like good match ups, flawless connection, servers close to me for every game so I would never have ping over 100ms, fucking permaban for underage micspammers and all that.

Like there are games that have pitiful singleplayer content and just sell themselves as online games, and you still have to pay for that part aswell.

Console multiplayer becoming mainstream was a mistake.
The second it happened shit like DLC, Microtransactions, paid online, unfinished games, multiplayer focus games with tacked on singleplayer happened.

Part of the reason 7th and now 8th Gen was so shit.
8th Gen is irredemeable garbage though, from underpowered consoles meant to sell at a a profit to barely any new IPs or new game mechanics outside the mandatory AAA design and everything going to PC.

Most of the time when people try to sink a thread by shitposting, they'll get banned and their posts deleted. I remember the last thread about Dota 2 had it's UIDs go from twenty to eight because most of the posts were calling the game shit. I could kind of understand subscription fees for a solely multiplayer game, because it relies completely on servers being online all the time, and that brings with itself costs that the developers won't make profit of just by simply selling the game once.

So I can understand subscription fees in something like WoW or any other multiplayer game as long as it keeps microtransactions out but what those kikes are doing with consoles is fucking disgusting. Paying additional for multiplayer in multiplayer+singleplayer game should never be a necessity.

You can trash Microfags for this 'pay for online' non-sense, Microsoft started this pay to play online on consoles garbage in the first place. Sony and Nintendo both held out and had free online for the entire PS3/Wii generation, additionally it's only because of Sony that Microsoft's E3 2013 always online DRM and other such garbage was put to rest right there on stage at E3 2013 when Sony announced they would not be stealing people's games like Microsoft's new Xbone was going to do.
