Monster Hunter

Monster Hunter
Toukiden
God Eater

What is the specific subgenre of these games and how can I bet go about looking for more like it other than saying "lol games like monhun"?

They're called Monster Hunter clones.

They're called "all of them are shit except for maybe Soul Sacrifice Delta and MAYBE Freedom Wars".

there called "we exist because capcom didn't make a monhun for the vita"

But Toukiden and God Eater were on PSP, so that doesn't make sense.

The monhun clone genera boomed as capcom stoped makeing sony monhuns.

all they have to do is make a monhun clone without the gay shit

Soulslike.

Soul Sacrifice is shit tier.

Soul Sacrifice itself is good but flawed, Soul Sacrifice Delta is legit one of the best games of the last 5 years not that that's saying much.

It's a Genre characterised by hunting Monsters so I'd call the Genre Monster Hunter

What's the difference, does Delta have better combat?

Better combat, better visuals, better performance, more story (it's basically a sequel and an enhanced version of the first game in one), etc.

God eater was a fucking travesty, so you can call them "shit grinding games" or "kingdom hearts but without the story" and then not include monster hunter in that list

Freedom Wars was awesome concept and worldbuilding until you notice the incredibly limited variability.
I would love a sequel expanding the universe and foe types

Hunting RPG or Hunting Action maybe? Maybe even an Action Hunting RPG? Could be "AHRPG" for short or some shit.

The genre of shitty PSO clones that lack everything that made PSO good.

Lobby system does not make something a clone of PSO. Its just you have walkable lobby with seperate levels, that's all what have been copied from PSO to .hack and MH.
I don't even believe it was original. Maybe some old 2d korean mmo had lobby like this too, and the idea was taken from it.

i want to watch the eyes roll back in her head while i strangle her

Hunting Action is what Capcom calls them in Japan. Seems apt enough.

Soulsborne.

"Souls without the lore"
Would be the genre you speak of, son

They're action games with a focus on farming for gear. Polite sage for gay thread.

Weeb shit is pretty good name for it
Considering that nips can't even make it decent
I cant wait for a nobody in the west make the best monhun clone and beat dumbass nips at their own turf

The genre should probably be called monster hunting.
God Eater would be cool if there wasn't only two types of weapons, and they ditched the shitty toy-like designs where everything is glued together.
Toukiden 2 is actually a very good game, cool monsters, good dismemberment mechanic and cool weapon classes, it's very easy and the missions are all just arenas though. Hope they fix this when the kiwami version comes.
MH4u/XX on PC when?

The first one had 3 and the second one had 6, plus the 3 different gun types both had. Unless you are thinking the weapons types are just "melee" and "gun" which would be oversimplifying things too much. I also think the bigger problem with GE is the low amount of unique boss enemies.

God eater would be cool if it actually had any fight that lasted longer than 5 minutes and / or had more than three moves, and if it wasn't total shit with nothing but recolors and shitty monsters with zero startup spin attacks.

I was getting used to call them monhun clones but sounds like a better term to use.

I would add that the story introduces a lot of characters and then gives you little to no reason to care about them, not to mention it ends with a lot of loose ends to it. Outside of that and the enemy variety, it was truly enjoyable. Love the controls, the weapons and their movesets, and the thorn mechanics. I kept coming back to it even after getting all the trophies.

Maybe turn this into a Hunting Action games general?

Toukiden 2 appears to be an amalgam of various mechanics from similar games. There's a "third eye" ability similar to the one in Soul Sacrifice that lets you see the part damage and weak points, and the demon hand works very similar to the thorn in Freedom Wars, with the added detail that the NPCs who join you in battle are way easier to sympathize with.

I had a huge problem with the controls, especially with the movement and attacking mid-air. I noticed it took me way more time to arrive and engage the enemies than the time it took me to actually kill them. The atrocious english dub didn't help either. I really wanted to enjoy the franchise after watching the anime, but I just couldn't.

The thorn mechanics were pretty good. They tried to make up for the lack of enemy variety with the different weapons the enemies could be equipped with, but that doesn't really work since the main body takes enough time to kill that you are probably going to disarm it, for what its worth, prior to killing it.

More variety in the missions would be nice too. I remember one of the first missions had one where you would escort an abductor and your objective was to help it reach the destination and not let the enemies destroy it.

I never dabbled into the PvP but I heard it was heavily biased in favor of the koreans who got the game earlier, and were able to get their weapons to maximum level while everyone else kept struggling with the RNG associated with the weapon modding mechanics, which was another bullshit aspect now that I remember it.

Shit.

Fuck you for even suggesting that I haven't played a game THAT shit in a long long time.
